    Quiet air pump?

I've used an eheim air pump in the past and they are very quiet. You might also be able to get away with a manifold to offset pressure differences that may be causing the noise. Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk

I tried with a multipronged approach : Reduced flow only slightly, increased light, increased CO2. This seem to have worked fairly well and I've got pretty good growth now. EI recipie unchanged.

    60ltr at 4bps???

Keep in mind there are several components to kh and pH, not all are relevant. I would perosnally use a number of methods to see if I've got enough or too much co2: PH drop, lime green drop checker and fish. As for flow, cegs recommendation of adding the powder to see flow is spot on. That it...

    Ludwigia leaves dying off

Hi all, I set up a shrimp/nano tank (50L) 5-6 months ago and have been noticing the leaves on the ludwigia start turning grey/green at the stem and then spread to the leaf. Set up : Clearseal 50L tank. Aqusoil powder substrate with ferropol baselayer. Wavepoint clamp light ~24w CO2 on one...

I've actually been fighting this algae in my tank lately too. I'm pretty sure its a low biomass situation in my case too, but I've found that doing daily water changes while rubbing down all branches and harscape, removing with a toothbrush etc, seems to have helped. It's taken two weeks of...

Small update : A new inline diffuser arrived today and has been fitted. The mist, while annoying, is so, so much better than the Bazooka. I'll be putting it on the filter intake at some point once I'm sure things are getting better. For now, I'd rather not have too much / too often fluctuation...

So it's been some time since I updated this thread, but lots has been going on with the tank. It went through a stage HC melt, to sudden excellent growth from the DSM, followed by a stage of BGA attack on the entire right side of the tank. I finally gave up and removed a lot of the old plants...

    Advice on CO2 usage

If you're strapped fort cash you could get a solenoid from co2art for about £20. You just cut the co2 pipe and insert on each end. Ultimately better off with a dual stage and FE though.

Dry start method tank - yellowing leaves

Hi Martin and fox, Thanks so much for your responses. I'll cut the ferts and see how it goes. The only reason I was adding ferts was because it seemed to help the fissidens along. Also, since I have flooded and drained the tank a few times, I was concerned there might not be any nutrients...

Dry start method tank - yellowing leaves

Hi all, I started a DSM tank a few months ago and after some trial and error, seem to have got the mix right - mostly. I'm using amazonia soils with root tabs and a carpet of HC. Lighting Problems - please help!

Get hold of neutro+. This contains the NPK you need. Google estimative index fertiliser As for your co2, how are you diffusing it? Your flow can't be very good if its not reaching substrate. Turning the co2 on for longer will be good overall.
  24. MedicMan

    Lighting Problems - please help!

Yes, so there's your problem. CO2 might well be adequate but you're not dosing fertilisers needed for high light and co2. Get yourself a complete NPK fertiliser and you'll see things improve. Don't bother with flourish and Iron, they're not going to help in this instance. get something like...

Almost always the issue is co2. In the same tank I have now, with the same lights, I used to always have problems with HC. It would look gold for a week then start to die off. Definitely agree with the drop checker. I found while I had my dc at the top and it was yellow, I'd get little to no growth. So I've painted on the Fissidens using a greek yogurt and RO mix yesterday. I'm not 100% sure I've done this right though as I'm noticing the wood is drying out very quickly and not quite sure what this means for the fissidens.
  32. MedicMan

    Is EI enough?

I personally think it depends more on your co2 than anything. What you think might be good co2 may inface be mediocre. How are you diffusing the co2? Are you achieving a pH drop of 1 before lights on? What colour are your drop checkers near substrate level? What recipie are you following for ei?

Some questions about light in the eventuality of CO2 not leading to much growth development

Aaanyway back on topic :D Yeah I believe APF says in plant heavy tanks (as I'm sure most of ours are) you should aim for a double dose. I would still calculate stuff from : yanc.rotalabutterfly.com

Some questions about light in the eventuality of CO2 not leading to much growth development

Just a note... The ei recipie on APF is very weak . so unless you're dosing 20ml per 50l you may not see the growth you want. Check the correct concentration and record using wet's nutrient calculator

Depending on how many you have, I wouldn't mind making the journey to you for pickup. There's a chap in hampshire that does the same thing but charges £6.00 per. The journey probably costs me £20 in petrol so I'm better off buying in bulk!
