    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

@CooKieS I have some Chemiclean stand by in case it returns :D But I THINK I tackled the root cause of the Cyano outbreak. I think it was due to lots of MC/HC melting and some issues with flow the tank became very unstable. @rebel Thanks man, I'm also more fan of this version

    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

Month 5 I have been struggling with this scape for the past months. :( Had brown algae that just wouldn't go away, HC/MC in the front kept melting and to top things off, a giant Cyano outbreak. So I decided to remove the front soil slopes and do a complete 6 day blackout to kill the Cyano...

    Unnamed - 60P

Just try it, you will be amazed :) For really big stones like the one leaning on the right side; that stone has pretty good support on itself, but I used around 6 of those filters to really lock it down, so it wouldn't move accidentally when doing maintenance. I can put some force on it and it...

Thank you for sharing your thoughts CooKies! There will be some planting behind those trees, so I think it will have a nice effect. But I can always tweak along the way if it doesn't look good :) I actually made a video where I explain how I do my glueing :)

    Unnamed - 60P

Thanks guys :D @Nubias If I ever had to buy a 60cm tank again, I wouldn't go for the ADA 60P anymore. You need more depth for modern aquascapes, something I miss with it's 30cm. 40 - 45 cm would be such a relief and would give so much more possibilities. So something to keep in mind if you ever...

    Unnamed - 60P

Hi everyone, After breaking down Mighty Cave it started itching again to start somehting new. I created the hardscape a while back and finaly found the time to port it over to the aquarium. :) The setup: Tank: ADA 60P (60x30x36cm) Light: Twinstar 600SP with Chihiros hanging kit Filter: 1x...

    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

Thanks guys :) @FJK_12 I hope it will fill in nicely so I can emphasize the depth even more. I'm also planning to add a lot more sticks in the back, going from bigger to smaller. But when the hair grass is grown in completely. :D

How to glue aquarium hardscape (wood & rocks)

I have no idea what makes the filter react ... but I do know that using white filter wool causes that same reaction. So that's an alternative if you don't want to use cigarette filters. I tried them both and my preference goes to cig filters. The filter wool isn't that compact and needs a lot...

How to glue aquarium hardscape (wood & rocks)

Hi, I wanted to show you guys how I use cigarette filters and superglue to glue wood and rocks together when creating a hardscape. Hope this video can help you in creating beautiful aquascapes :)

    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

My first idea was to do a hemianthus micranthemoides background, but then I saw a scape a bit like mine using this plant in the background and I didn't like it. It was too bushy, taking over all the twigs, not a natural sight. That's why I went for Eleocharis acicularis. I hope it grows well so...

After almost 6 weeks of dry start I finally got around planting this scape a few days ago. The dry start was a big success and I'm going to use this method for all my future scapes, for sure. It's so easy with very nice results, the way I like it. :D So here some pictures for you guys, hope...

    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

Small update on the dry start of this scape. It's going very well, I can see new growth popping up everywhere. We are at week 3 now, but I'm going to give it one more extra week to be sure.

    Cave in the Hill

Nice growth, It's looking great! Only thing I don't like is the big sand line on the front glass. I'm more fan of a thin layer .. :p
  19. Mikeba

    Mighty Cave - ADA 60P

Yeah, with the Twinstar on full power plants grow very fast. My stems recovered from the trim in 3 days ... with the Aquasky 601 it took a complete week, so go figure. :) It's GSA I think .. I've had BGA in my previous tank and it was more slimy. I just kept syphoning it out and one day it...

    Cave in the Hill

That is looking awesome! Love the shadows in the front, really ads to the depth. And the extension to the left played out well. Only point of feedback I can give is that the right front is a bit too heavy .. would have been nice if the far left piece was smaller, making a sort of step up from...

    Mighty Cave - ADA 60P

Try trimming portions of the lower stem of, it should sprout new growth at those points. Having a lot of light also helps to keep it compact.
  24. Mikeba

    Mighty Cave - ADA 60P

Trim it HARD. It's actually not a very good plant for a 60P scape. I have to trim it weekly so it doesn't grow out of control. Fortunately trimming is easy and only takes a few minutes.
  25. Mikeba

    Mighty Cave - ADA 60P

Time for anohter update on this tank. I have been neglecting this tank due to the setup of the 45P, so it was time for a some heavy trimming and maintenance. This should be the last trim before the final shot, so almost time for something new!! :D

    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

@Dominik_K Thank you! The planting will be challenging, hope I will be able to pull it off. I'm going to try HC Cuba instead of Monte Carlo. Had some advice from Cory Hopkins (not on this forum I think), and he suggested to do the planting like the scape below. So, Giant Haigrass on the side...

    Cave in the Hill

I'm flattered! :p I really like the feel of the stones, nice textures en depth! One thing I regret now is that I didn't make the cave opening bigger. After adding moss en wood details it became too small. So maybe something you could take into consideration now, while you still can :) And I...
  29. Mikeba

    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

@Eduard18 Yes, the wood has been soaking for almost 3 weeks and was completely waterlogged before applying the moss. I'm hoping it will stay soaked due to the humidity inside the tank. @Shinobi Thnak you! :)
  30. Mikeba

    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

@Eduard18 @doylecolmdoyle Thanks, I think I'll go for HC Cuba after all.... if it fails I can always swap it out with Monte Carlo later. It will be a lot better for the scale in this small tank. I got around taking pictures sooner than expected  So here are some shots of the scape during DSM.

  32. Mikeba

    Mirkwood - ADA 45P

It took a while, but I finally got around adding the substrate and sand. I created the slopes on the sides because the foreground was hard to reach with all the wood. This way it will be a lot easier to do trimmings and glass cleaning in the future. I also created a little planting map, but...

@SKYE.__.HIGH I notice more green algae now that I stopped using it for a few months, but I also switched lights in that same period ... so I'm not sure. Small (long overdue) update on this tank. Since switching over to 100% RO water things are really going great. Critique my hardscape First hardscape attempt

I have to agree with @Nigel95 and @Keith GH . You need bigger (and more) rocks. For the size of your aquarium you need a few really big stones to use as eye catchers of your scape. Your main stone should reach 3/4 of the height of your aquarium. Your secondary stone 2/4 of the height. For the...

    Mighty Cave - ADA 60P

I'm going to glue down the moss anyways, like I have done with the Riccardia and Hygrophila (@Sublimeaccuracy). Although it's better to tie Hygrophila down to wood with ADA wood tight (or twist-tie form the DIY). The roots will attach themself into the wood and you can remove the wood tight...

    Mighty Cave - ADA 60P

Thanks guys :) @Nigel95 I'm thinking about adding even more wood. I like the extra natural feel and detail it brings :) But first I need to order more moss! I'm not sure if I should just add more riccardia or maybe some riccardia + weeping moss. Maybe some Anubias Nana 'petite" on some...

Love this tank! :) I think moss (riccardia?) and/or Monte Carlo growing down on the stones would look great. I would also add small stones at the bottom of the stones to make the transition sand - stone more natural.

Recommend me a light for my ADA 60P

I have an ADA Aquasky 601, but I would not buy it again for 2 reasons: Not dimmable: A LOT of light and sometimes hard to manage when battling algae Resting on top of the aquarium: not so nice when you need to do work on your aquarium and also need light. A hanging kit would be awesome. I...

Good job! Really digging the scape, it certainly has potential. I think you have laid out the basic foundation ver well, but it needs a bit more focus on the details. I would remove the thin/tall piece in the center and try to create more depth by using smaller and smaller pieces to the back...

Very nice main rock! I agree with Dominik_K, you need some supporting stones to make a nice transition. Maybe 2 more stones 50% and 20% of the main one. I also like the rubble you have in the last picture. Good job so far!

@doylecolmdoyle Thanks! I'm afraid the planting space will not be high enough if I would do that, which will result in too much trimming. I hope the space will suffice and I can always use some Hygrophila in the spaces that are too compact due to stones.

@Eduard18 Yep, the construction is rock solid, no worries. :) Great tips on planting! A little bit out of my comfort zone (was thinking about using good old Rotala behind the cave), but I like the fine structure your plants have, would be great for an enhanced sense of scale. I was actually...

    Critique my hardscape Hardscape practicing

Problem with a 60P is that it only has 30cm front to back which makes it very hard to create a good feeling of depth. So your really need to use very small stones at the back to make a viewer think it goes on forever :) I should have taken actual viewing point more into concideration while...

I own a ADA 60P and I'm using a JBL e901 cansister filter. I think it's the same as the Fluval 305 in terms of L/h. I'm very happy with it. Crystal clear water and a good flow.
