Means you need to inject more co2. More water movement means more degas of co2 which in turn enables you to get a more balance co2 reading.
I'm currently dialing mine in......takes alot of time lol! Got a new filter coming in the post as want more water movement. Only got a trickle Hob filter...
More about the uv bud. I currently have a HOB filter on my 60litre cube due to lack of space. I'd love to go external though.

Hi all,
Need some help.
Whats the pros and cons for one of these on a planted tank.
Need to know if it worth buying this HOB filter or not.
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I brought a 2kg FE from spock for £8 local pickup. There loads of people selling them and good thing is they don't need to be in date either :-)
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Yeah it is bud, I has 7 settings on the dimmer so turned it down 3/4 times. I have cut the affected leaves off and since having the faster growers the BBA has been back as bad since.
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Well since these shots this is what's changed.
I have added alot of fast growing stem plants and started to dose ei method.
My lights are now on 60% and on for 6hours a day. My co2 on 2 hours before lights on/off. I also have a power head creating alot of flow so there is no dead spots...
So I have so bad BBA in anubius but when I dim my light it looks unsightly so prefer to have it on full blast. I will reduce lighting to 60% my other is I have my co2 come on 2 hours before and my DC is green when lights come on, however I worry that if my DC was lime green to yellow then...
First one looks like Amazon frogbit but cant be 100% sure as the picture quality isn't great. As goes for the second, I'm clueless.

Your water is really hard! That could be the reason for the behaviour. What I'd say to do is start using ro for a month or 2 and then start switching back to tap water gradually. Your shrimp may have come from a tank that has softer water to yours hence why they are behaving in that way.
Once...
So first thing is to check your water parameters in your area and can easy be found by your water supplier. This will then tell us if there are things in your area water that these guys don't like.
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
That does sound odd. I was going to say one main issue with shrimp is depending on water parameters they can struggle to shread there shell however in this case it's straight from a water change.
That tells me it's most likely your water. Are you using straight ro? Or tap water?
Sent from my...
So red cherries will adapt to most water parameters. Very easy to keep. This could be another issue in the tank.
How did you introduce the shrimp?
I used to take just shy of 50% out and topped up with straight ro. I just poured it in :-)
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Hey,
I know exactly what your on about here as I was in the same boat at one point.
What sort of shrimp with you be keeping?
Just to give you an idea I have both red cherrys and crystal reds. Now I used to be so anal about Tds as I also dose the ei method. Red cherries will be fine in most...
I appreciate your words, however I had 180litre planted tank with low light and co2 which resulted in a BBA outbreak.
Yes this may mean it's due to poor co2 etc etc etc but some people on here are not as in the know as others and I was simply posting as I had this issue!
I don't get bogged...
Main reason is low light with co2 is a really poor balance! I've been there and done that and got very bad BBA and other forms of algae. You have to have the right balance.
So with low light you would be injecting co2 which in turn would leave excess co2 as the plants wouldn't gain the best...
The only issue I have is I use a small 600lph pump to circulate it around the aquarium to optimise my co2. I could remove the pump but then I would have dead spots and I feel the tank/plants wouldn't benefit as well? I know circulation is key, but also dialing in the co2 is a pain.
As my tank...
Hi all,
As title says really, I had the look of co2 bubbles in the water. It makes it look cloudy and not nice to look at.
My only issue I have HOB filter so I know the normal route of online diffuser is out but is there any other way to diffuse co2 in the water with the horrid bubbles...
Hi all,
I was wondering if you can use standard cotton wool instead of filter wool? I know there slightly different but would they be safe and do the same sort of job?
Thanks
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Yes but there more expensive and charge delivery. These are from hinterfeld too. I later found this out when they delivered it a few weeks later with postal note inside
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I have the 30cm version and had to buy the mounts separate. They come with the perspex mounts which weren't high enough for what I wanted
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I have red cherries and crystal red Shrimp in my high tech tank and that had injected co2 aswell. Not sure who told you co2 and shrimp don't mix? I think a lot of co2 would cause an issue, just like it would on fish?
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
So my tank is set to 24/25c I have a pair of fighters and a breeding group of blackchins along with shrimp. Would you say drop temp now? Or drop to 20/22 as I've been told high temps aren't suited to some fish? Is 24/25c about right?
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
So just a question, I'm going on holiday for a week at the end of September. Would they not need a holiday block then? I always have been dubious about them but didn't see any other way around it?
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I'm not liking the look of the Limnophila sessiliflora, as it's more of a background plant and i already have some decent stem plants. Thining about removing most of the anubius for dwarf sag?
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I was thinking MC tbh. I've had brilliant results before from this light but that was on a 30cm cube where as this is a 40cm cube. Gonna look into this plant now :-)
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I would say so bud. Give it a slight tap, Might be the needle stuck. It's never happened to me but seen other threads in the past saying similar :-)
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Hi Dave,
Yeah I have halved it today and will continue to do so. Have ordered some crypts off a guy on here too so hopefully I can replace some of the anubius with that to help take up more nutrients :-)
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I do like the look of the Parva tbh. I think would replace the anubius quite well. thinking about a carpet at the front too.
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Hi all,
I'm looking for a bit of help looking for fast growing foreground plants.
At the moment I have alot of anubius which is causing some tds issues as I know these are slow growers so don't use much nutrients.
I'm currently injecting co2 and dosing the Ei dry salts method.
My question is...
I've never ever bothered with either of those. The thing I ask myself is. In the wild do they have these additives once setup? All I do is keep it simple :-)
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I've been dosing EI method for the last 2weeks and finding that my plants aren't using all the nutrients as my tds is around 700! I belive the water change is to reset the tank.
I follow the instructions on the starter kit a brought.
Not sure if/how 2water changes would work
Sent from my...
Very true. I do have alot of anubius in there. Going to look for a carpet plant and few more stem plants and swap a few things around
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I would love to add more plants but I don't have any more space, I shall try reducing the dose by half and see how that goes. This is a picture of the tank. The only thing I could do is carpet the sand with MC or something like that?
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Hi all,
I have posted this in the water chemistry section too as I feel it falls under both.
Now I have been dosing EI method for 2weeks now and my tds has gone from 200 to 700 and keeps going up.
My tds needs to be stable as I have CRS and have had these for around 6months at 200tds. All...
Hi all,
I've recently started dosing the ei method as stated by the instructions.
I have sensitive shrimp in the tank I'm dosing and the tds is now at 700!! My CRS have been in tds for the last 6months around the 200mark. Should I reduce the amount of ml dose on the ei ferts or will this not...
No it should for Striaght on from the regulator. I buy my FEs from eBay and got my regulator second hand off there too :-)
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
The 95g bottles won't last you long bud. I would recommend buying 2kg fire extinguisher. I have one on my 60litre heavily planted tank and it's lasted the year so far. I used to use the fluval co2 kit but i always had to turn the co2 on manually which was a pain around work etc. I jjst have a...
Hahahaa mega money then? Chihiros are a good light! I have the 30cm A series. Works so well with the dimmable switch function.
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I brought my 2kg FE from eBay delivered and I've had it now for about 6month and still got a ton on of it left. I use mine on a 60litre tank
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Also lights on for 8 hours is a bit much. I'd reduce to 6.
Other things I would like to know is, when does your gas come on and when do your lights come on?
The idea of 1ph drop before lights on is the one to roughly go on.
My gas comes on 3hours before lights on and my DC is green once...
Hi,
The algae was hitting the anubius but since that I have planted it very thick with stem plants. So I'm hoping this will sort the issue out as they were all slow growing plants.
I only have test strips which I am getting roughly 1ph drop from when co2 on and when lights come on.
Thanks...
Thank you for your reply! So my lights turn on at 4:30pm and my gas comes on 2hours before. I have a HOB filter and then a pump that is on all day around 500lph.
As far as I can see there are no dead spots like there was before adding the pump. I have also ordered brackets for my light which...
Thank you for your reply. I now realise I had slow growing plants such as crypts and anubius. However now my tank is fully stocked as you can see in the picture :-) I use the ei dry ferts method now alongside co2 injection.
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Bummer I've just thrown my easy carbo down the sink lol. It was old anyway. So woukd you suggest dosing that aswell as ei ferts and injecting co2??
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
I've just started dosing the APF starter kit and I was wondering why your dosing liquid co2? Do you inject co2? I thought the kit was all you need bar the injection of co2?
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Also of I was to go for ei ferts what does would I use as I can see on the website it states 10ml for every 50litres and my tank is 60litres.
The reason I ask is I see people using 1/5 of the dose etc
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Hi guys,
I'm currently dosing my tank with easy life products such as carbo, profito and iron. Now I also inject co2 but having alot of algae issues.
I have just purchased some stem plants which I know help take excess nutrients to help prevent algae. I've had tanks for years however this is...
I'm having the same issue. Just read this thread and it's has saved my life lol!! I. Going to start with the tips from the thread tomorrow!!
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
As title says. I've came across these on eBay and thought there quite cool to use on the back wall of my tank.
Any ideas of what plants I could use?
Thanks in advance
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
Yeah I'm thinking the same. More stem plants at the back or something. I have crypts at the back but I think something more will be better?
