It was going so well.... Cherry Shrimp die off

Is it an open topped tank? Could someone have been cleaning the room recently and sprayed some polish or something nearby?

Shrimp-proofing the Fluval flex 57L filter section

I think you're likely right, but I'm wary of going too fine with it in case it floods again. Also I've put extra biological media bags in the first chamber but I think those could possibly come out and I'd still be ok for filtration. I do wish there was a flow reduction on the pump but hey ho...

Shrimp-proofing the Fluval flex 57L filter section

Hey folks I hope you're all safe and well I've had a Fluval 57L Flex set up for a while and my Crystal Reds are breeding well. However, during a recent water-change I noticed a few juvenile shrimplets in the first and second chambers (from left to right). I managed to fish them out with a tiny...

    Confused over water changes

I have 2 shrimp only, planted tanks of about 60L each, with lots of botanicals in there (mulberry leaves, alder cones, etc). I change ~10% water per week with remineralised RO water (GH/KH+) up to about 150TDS I dose ferts very slightly if at all (just have easy plants like rotala, java fern...

Congratulations! They are really fascinating critters - and the babies are beyond cute - my crystals have just had their first batch :)

    Recommend me a shrimp food . . .

I have tried all sorts and Shrimp King Complete is by far the favourite for both my cherries and my crystals. I give them both Bacter AE for the babies too. Very little of that goes a looong way

    Recommendations for a Nano Cube

I have the 60L Dennerle and a Fluval Flex 57L - both would be ideal. Bigger is better for all involved.

Best method for raising LED light?

Best method for raising LED light?

Those brackets look like they might work, thanks. actually that's not a bad idea, I've got an uplighter next to the tank maybe I can utilise that @tiger15 thanks for the suggestion but I'm really looking to light the emersed plants from above

Best method for raising LED light?

Hi folks I want to add another LED light to my Dennerle 60L cube (38cm x 38cm square) Currently I have a Fluval Aquasky LED 2.0 light which is great for the existing plants and shrimp, but I want to grow some grasses emergent at the back, so I need another light source because the emergent...

    A few shrimp questions . . .

    A few shrimp questions . . .

@Wookii If you're in Notts it's worth popping down to Maidenhead aquatics on the ring road (it's at nottcutts garden center) - they now have 2 dedicated shrimp tanks with neos and caradinas for sale. Friendly staff too.

    Scutariella on Cherry Shrimp

It's now 2 weeks since I treated the 60L with Praziquantel (fluke solve) I accidentally overdosed by about 50% then panicked and so i did 10% water change for the next 2 days and then waited to see. Turns out that everyone's fine. No deaths at all. I've continued with my 10% per week...

    Scutariella on Cherry Shrimp

So I got my fluke solve delivered and dosed according to the package last night - the package says "1g per 250L" so for my 60L tank that's 0.24g. Zozo - can I ask you roughly what the dosage you used was if you remember? I don't know whether 0.24g is a one-off treatment or if it should be split...

Quick update on me on this one. Scutariella on Cherry Shrimp

I feel your pain. I'm also battling Scutariella in my cherry tank, for about 2 weeks now. What seems to be working for me (so far) is: A 20-30 second saltbath for each obviously affected shrimp (mine had rostrums covered in the worm ends), then I pop them straight back into the tank. Berried...

    Shrimp birthing mechanics

Do cherry shrimp generally let their newborns out in one single birthing event, i.e. all at the same time? Or can this be done over a few "sessions", as they become "ready". E.g. 5 released today, 10 released tomorrow, etc. The reason I ask is that my one pregnant female in my 60L cherry tank...

the LEDs are super bright. Much brighter than the T5's, so I'm runnning them at about 90% power. Plants are going very well yes. had some algae issues a bit, but that might be down to the moonlight too. Still playing with it TBH.

    Lights failed Juwel , replacements

I had a similar issue to yours with my Juwel Rio T5's - they would come on for a second then go off. In the end I just had to replace one of the bulbs and that sorted the problem out. However, since then I've replaced them with the Juwel Full Spectrum LEDs, which I really like but they are...

    cherry shrimp and breeding temps

My cherries are in an unheated tank which sits at about 20c. I add liquid carbon, they bred like mad for a few months, then stopped - I haven't seen any shrimplets for weeks now. I'm not sure why. they're still mouting from time to time tho

    Unwelcome find

Good luck! Whether you're granted a license depends on a lot of factors, including your geographical location. So if you live anywhere near any indigenous white clawed crayfish you're gonna be out of luck (like I am). The further south in England you go it seems the more likely you are to get...

I've got the 60L Dennerle cube with the 24w light. It's unheated, I'm dosing liquid carbon & tropica specialised and my monte carlo is filling out pretty well after a couple of monthsbut it's no doubt deeper than the 30 so you should be OK esp. with pressurised co2

    Shrimp tank timelapse

Sounds like a plan, I reckon smaller is tougher to get right or keep stable so I would get the plants and tank well established first before adding shrimp! It is Monte Carlo, I wanted a low tech carpet and it seemed the easiest option for me, it's been great so far. Tropica 1-2-grow.
