The chihiros mesh is much better. I've been using it with the twinstar unit (brain) and have been really pleased with the performance. I dosed too much urea and got green dust algae. But where the twinstar bubbles hit the glass there was no algae.
Soilwork,
Haven't read the whole thread, and this is off topic. My question is, would it be better to run Co2 24/7, or to turn it off at night? From what I'm reading it seems like some bacteria utilize Co2? So does turning it off at night kill bacteria? Or does the increase in ph stimulate...
I'd say to get through the setup phase. Save time required to clean all that mess and to save valuable plants purchased.
I broke out my multimeter and measured voltage on the reactor. It has a safety mechanism that shuts the twinstar down when I applied the multimeter. If you look at videos...
Darrel, how does the meter represent 100% saturation in ppm? Is there any advantage from hydrogen? The same way people add barley to create hydrogen peroxide as an algeacide. Also they seem to imply a water softening effect, and therefore an improvement in fertilizer uptake and therefore...
Has anyone measured the difference in oxygen? I'm thinking of renting a dissolved oxygen meter. What would a typical ppm of a newly established tank be vs and established tank vs a tank with the twinstar?
From what I've read it works via electrolysis. So it takes H2O and splits it into hydrogen and oxygen. Same way people use hydrogen peroxide to inhibit algae. The increase in oxygen has the same effect as having a tank that is mature. The extra oxygen saturation helps the bio-filter work better.
I added a cerges after the inline atomizer. Even when its dirty and clogged the Co2 still gets in and the cerges just allows it to absorb into the water.
Here is an instructable on it:

I always just pictured doing it just for checking the flow, and just at the end of the j on the outlet pipe. I would be worried about gunk build up keeping it installed all the time.
What happened to me recently was that one of my two filters failed. Basically when both filters are running the tank is saturated with oxygen. When one fails, there is not as much oxygen available in the tank and the other filter's bacteria sucks the remaining oxygen to toxic levels, killing...
