    Drip Irrigation Advice

I only dream of having high pressure mains supply. I am sure that last time I checked my supply was 3.5 bar. The Screwfix kit does have a pressure reducing valve but it looks a bit pants That is a good word. Will do some more digging as looks like these are adjustable which sounds like a...

    Drip Irrigation Advice

I suspect there are some knowledgeable people here who can offer some advice. We have several containers / pots on the patio plus a couple of beds and I was looking at setting up a drip irrigation setup so they don't die off (again) when I am away on holiday. Just looking for any advice on how...

    Measuring Insulation Effectiveness

I will open up the membrane to check but I am guessing it should be OK. There are so many variables which is why I wanted to start looking at the efficiency rather than just looking at the rate of change of water temperature. In theory the PIR stuff is a great insulator but it is designed to...

It is literally about 2m x 2.4m of board (I think it is IKO Enertherm PIR Cavity Wall Insulation Board - 1200 x 450 x 100mm | Wickes.co.uk) that has been wrapped in the membrane and sealed with with membrane tape (just like wrapping a present really with only a little overlap of the membrane)...

    Measuring Insulation Effectiveness

So I have a small hot tub sat on top of some 100mm PIR insulation boards I managed to get hold of. Now PIR isn't designed for moisture so I wrapped it in a sheet of damp proof membrane (Capital Valley Plastics Ltd Damp-Proof Membrane Black 1000ga 3 x 4m - Screwfix) I had in the garage. I am...

Cleaning / Replacing Hamburg Matten Filter

I setup a HMF in my hospital / quarantine / grow out tank a couple of years ago and it has done great but the sponge has got to the point that it is no longer holding it's shape and keeps collapsing into the area behind it where the heater lives. I normally replace sponges that get to this...

    Daphnia OK with algae?

This is what was in one of the tubs this morning. I do see this appearing in some of my tanks from time to time, it is slimy and like removing hair from the shower plug hole. It has fine hair like threads that come out when you pull it but I can't seem to tie it back to any particular algae...

Is Sulphate of Potash safe to use in aquariums?

Simpler than I thought then :D So my worries about SO4 (New Fert Time and Confused... I was actually concerned the other way and worried about sulphur toxicity. IIRC I was upping the dose of SO2 by an order of magnitude. Turned out the levels out the tap were far higher than this anyway so was a bit of a mute point. Since changing the makeup the tank is generally a bit more...

Do aquarium plants know it is spring?

I was thinking more of plants in an aquarium where their light, temperature etc. Is reasonably fixed. I know my main tank does get a bit of sunlight but the floaters are in a hood which will block sunlight from them. Just seems a bit odd that everything has decided to flower at once

Water changes bad for beneficial bacteria

    Fractal

My limited understanding is that the iron in CSM+B (and most off the shelf ferts) becomes unavailable to plants pretty quickly at higher pH levels (which you get in hard water). These cartridges look to be part of the plumbing inside the filter. I can't quite work it out but it looks like the inlet pipework comes up to the top of the HOB and is then meant to go into the cartridges. I presume other HOBs have water enter the chamber at the bottom.
