Sorry about the late reply Costa! I didn't see the notification about your reply, your tank looks awesome, I don't know the lm off hand but I'll check, it is possible to bend copper pipe into tight bends but...
Just wanted to share my recent lighting build, the bulbs are E27 15w 6500k COB LEDs from ebay and the pendants were easily made with just a few bits from the hardware store :)
Thanks Costa, yeah I can do it now, they are dead easy! I won't have photos though, I might chuck it in the lighting bit too.
DIY copper tube lighting pendants:
First was to decide how many lights I wanted and to order, I thought as it was a 3 foot (near enough) 3 would suit me so I ordered 3...
Finally getting clearer.... I think my DIY filter sponge is a bit too coarse really.
I've ordered some broad leaf dwarf chain sword plants to go around the edges of the rocks
Lights arrived :D ....eventually. I was given a few black mollies that I hadn't really wanted in the tank as it was going to be an Amazon but they look really nice in there so I may just go with an Amazon based one haha. all the plants and almost all the fish are.
So the fish list now:
The big...
Hey fish peeps! This is what it looked like this morning next to the tv stand I've just finished :)
As you can see the natural pine wood finish would have looked like a right mess next to the Marri wood tv stand.
I added a small school of neons and three peppered corys yesterday after a...
Thanks everyone :D I have thought about evening lighting, but I only really thought about lighting it from above...only because I didnt know of another method, and I wish I had seen these messages yesterday and I wouldnt have been so hasty to spray them black so I could fill them! So I guess i'm...
No updates for a while due to not having internet! Anyway, after seeing how bad the aquarium stand looked next to the new tv stand (still being built) I decided to back to my original plan of having it stained black. Almost finished the lighting rig too! just need to feed the wires through and...
Thanks for such a comprehensive reply! The ones I chose are dimmable but I don't know why that's not included in those specs, I chose dimmable in case they were too bright I could tone them down a bit. I'll remember about the transformers in case anything goes wrong and not just bin them :) I'll...
I can't figure out how to send a link from my phone, my Internet has been down for a couple of weeks now and I feel like I'm living in the stone age! But I've copied some of the info from the eBay page, just please ignore the bad translated English haha.
Model: 15W COB LED Spotlight
Bulb...
Hey all! I've ordered 3, 15 watt COB LED, 6500K, E27 lights for a pendant fitting I'm building. These are for my 90cm tank, I've been using them for a short time on my smaller aquarium and just wanted to see if anyone else uses them and if there are any long term issues they've faced? I haven't...
Ok so I think I have a final idea on stocking for the aquariums, the main is going to have 6 diamond tetras, 4-6 panda corys, a couple of ottos and probably a dozen or so neons,
The mini me tank isn't going to be a biotope and have a dozen or so spotted blue eye rainbow fish (those i know i can...
Yeah they look fantastic! I think their larger size and much more subtle colouring would be a really nice contrast next to a shoal of some neon type (neon/green neon/p.simulans) although I've been to three different lfs and none had diamonds and only had neons out of those three :( I still have...
Thanks for the suggestions, I like the look of the black phantoms, lemon tetras and from the video (which I really found interesting! :) ) diamond tetras, if I can get hold of them I think I'll go for the diamonds as they are considerably bigger than the other two but i suppose it comes down to...
Hey all!
I'll be cycling my tank very shortly so i still have some time to decide...but I need some help from some wiser and more experienced fish keepers.
I'd like to set up an Amazon themed aquarium, I have a 92 long x 50 high x 36 deep cm aquarium and i'd like a fish to contrast a shoal of...
Thanks guys! :) At the moment i'm thinking of doing an amazon river based aquarium on top and something different in the bottom, maybe a local river biotope... when I went to get my driftwood i could see loads of tiny fish and shrimps, and since its around 25 degrees most of the time at the...
Finally!!!
Now to get all the wiring in place and start the annoying month wait for my tank to cycle! :'( and that's only in the small one as i'm still waiting for my large filter and heater to arrive.
First couple of coats of the wipe on poly are on :D I was hoping to get a third on today but it hadn't completely dried so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.
All of the visible ply is going to be painted the neutral paint colour of out walls, I'll try and get that done in between coats of poly...
Actually had quite a few hours free over the last day so I've done a fair amount of work to it, after filling in the (many! albeit tiny) cracks and holes with ebony putty I really liked the look of it so I've decided to keep the natural wood colour and replace the shiny bolts with pine dowel and...
Slight change to the appearance....... belt sanded all of the outside surface and the bottom shelf, came up really really nice! and a lot lighter than I thought it would be. Made one hell of a mess though!
I'm going to give it another going over with a finer grit belt tomorrow and then use a...
Yeah Tadabis, I only ever use heat treated pallets for my builds, my mitre saw and sander kick off a lot of dust and I wouldn't risk breathing the dust of any others, and that's through my dust mask!
Finally have all the wood cut and in place!! feels like it's taken forever to get to this...
Gave the top a quick belt sand just to get an idea about what the wood will look like, it came up really good! not too far off from flat, but I still need to fill in the sides and take all the bolts out before i can give it a proper sanding all over.
I've doubled up on the front support beams...
Thanks Vanish :) Due to the condition of the wood its going to need a fair bit of filler, try as I might I couldn't get the planks as straight as i wanted so there are some warp gaps and all the original nail holes, and since I don't like filler being visible i'm still planning to stain the...
I've cut the boards roughly to size, i still need to cut the notches out from the bottom shelf boards at the edges but I can't do that until the other boards are clamped and screwed to get a final measure. They are a little warped (can't really complain with free wood!) but I tested one with two...
Thanks Manisha, I can't wait until I can get to the sanding point, I'll get a much better idea of what the finish will look like! I love a good project haha
Had a bit of time this morning to cut the ply sheets to size and glue and screw them in place, I've decided to put another two long planks on the bottom as well, as this will make adding a raised floor easy, and help spread the load on my tiled floor.... I think I'll place the whole stand on a...
So I've glued and bolted the frame together, next I'll glue and screw the 10 mm ply sheets to the back and sides from the inside.
The bolts at the top on the front and back are longer because there'll be another 2 planks running length ways to help distribute the weight of the aquarium.
The...
Thanks, haha I had already asked my girlfriend if she'll sit on it with me with a bunch of my weights! but it's going to have sheets of 10mm ply on the back and two sides, and open at the front so you can see the second smaller aquarium. It's going to have planks of pallet board glued and...
Thanks, it'll look completely different when it's done, I wouldn't have taken the chance on an aquarium build if I hadn't already built an outdoor corner seat from pallets, that thing is so sturdy I don't think it'll ever fail!
But as far as this build goes.. I've taken apart another 2...
Hey all,
Thought I'd share my build as I go, I can only put in an hour or so a day so it's going to be a few weeks until it's completed so you'll have to bare with me.
I'm using reclaimed pallet wood and any other bits I can get for free. I should have enough timber with the 6 pallets I have...
Due to budget restrictions I'll be using internal equipment for the time being, but there'll be a hidden area under the main tank for all the plugs. As for space restrictions.. I have measured the gap above the smaller aquarium and I should be ok with it, I'll be siphoning the water out and back...
Hey everyone!
I've been designing a stand that I'll be building in the next few weeks and I'm just curious what people think of the design and if they'd do anything differently. I'm a carpenter so there's no concern about the weight side of things.
The top aquarium is a 90L x 50H x 36D cm and...
I'll check out the kessil lights if my current cfl doesn't do the job, but due to my budget if I don't have to spend it I probably wont. I've been a PFK reader for years and I remember the article you mentioned, I'll have a re read online but that's the type I'd like, but as you advise Alto I'll...
Thanks for the replies,
Sorry I should have been clearer...its 50cm high, I chose this aquarium as from the research I've done it would be tall enough for angels!
For plant species I would like Vallis and Sword plants to keep true to the biotope, so I'm not sure just how dark my water can be...
Hey all,
I'm going to be setting up an Amazon blackwater biotope and was just curious if anyone has done a similar setup, I want the light to be focused in the centre of the aquarium with shaded/darker areas at both ends. I still need to build a double aquarium stand so it's going to be a few...
