    Restricted Flow

I experienced the exact same thing yesterday. After much faffing with most of my suspicions on the regulator, solenoid and gas bottle itself, it ended up being a severely blocked bazooka diffuser, which even after cleaning with H202 and then bleach dipping followed by prime dipping, still didn't...

    "Second Hand" Surface Agitation!

I've ran air-stones at lights out, I've ran them 24/7 with co2 cranked up to compensate. The battle for good oxygen levels without de-gassing co2 always seems to take place at the water surface which recently led me to an idea/experiment. What if I create "another" surface which I can aerate...

    Cliff & Plateau

In a no-expense spared setup, I'm inclined to steer you towards "Purigen"....by no means cheap but performs really well if crystal clear water be the aim... ....in my own experience that is. Experimentally, I once ran oodles of carbon in conjunction with just a modest amount of Purigen and an...

    Heavy On The Plants..

Yeah...there were concerns about "Fergal's" growth potential and plans were in place to re-house him/her at the appropriate juncture. However he/she leapt right out of the tank a few months back now and passed on as a result... Many thanks one and all for the comments thusfar since posting this...

New planted tank and plants are melting

Your substrate looks very similar to my own, before I ended up 'mulching' it all with aquasoil. It looks great but is an inert substrate I'm guessing? With no nutrients in it? Anyway, I tend to let my plants sit in their purchased pots and bunches for about a week, in order to reduce the shock...

    EHEIM 350 Skimmer Mod Pictorial

The Eheim 350 is a powerful and compact little surface skimmer, but like many it seems, I've lost a few fish to it because it's intakes are a tad wide. I've employed many mods to try and tame this unit, but this one is the best I've come up with to date. There are many 350 mods that will protect...

    Biomass - 1 Year!

I really love the look of this....really has a biotope feel to it when there's a thoroughly dominant plant-spread, as though a little square of natural river-bed has been cut and pasted right into your tank-space. Well done Mike

    My Learning Curve

Thank you.... At one stage, I was consumed with C02 and not allowing my surface to de-gas, so had the barest minimum of surface movement. However, I learned that my internal filter also required a certain amount of oxygen for it's bacteria colonies, and with the tank having such a small surface...

    My Learning Curve

Began about 2 years ago. Basically I was an outdoor gardener and plant enthusiast, but was looking for a way to enjoy plants from the warm comfort of my armchair throughout the winter months. I liked the idea of a palludarium, but my knowledge and experience with aquatic flora was limited to...

    LED for Juwel tank

Yep....understood! If you can find a way of mounting an LED alongside your current configuration....you will boost your light levels and increase your light features significantly....without breaking the bank! The Aquasky would deliver the goods.....if you could just surmount the locating...

what's the warmest you've grown Java moss successfully?

That's a great tank! Yep, that lower temperature will definitely favour your moss, indeed any tenth of a degree you can gradually shave off towards the lower 20's will contribute. Those upper branches mid-tank would take moss really well too IMHO... :)

what's the warmest you've grown Java moss successfully?

I'm running 6,000 + Lumens over a 100 Litre....(so 60 Lu per Litre)....but I'm also injecting C02 on the yellower-side of the green and have iron and potassium ramped up. Java moss can stay annoyingly brown and unappealing for what feels like an age....but once it's acclimatized to your tank...

    LED for Juwel tank

The Fluval Aquasky comes with attachments to retrofit or mount it into existing T5/T8 fluorescent fixtures. It also has adjustable sliders which may prove useful [spec-wise] in a Jewel tank. It's not a dedicated plant-growth array though....but the Fluval Plant & Fresh IS....but it's a chunkier...

Feeding - how much, how often?

Yup, this is my approach....including blood-worm for 3 Siamese algae eaters who need a bit of protein in their diet lest they home in on other fish for a loving 'suck' as they mature!! I'll also drop food onto mid-level moss branches which encourages mid tank swimmers to forage within their...

what's the warmest you've grown Java moss successfully?

    Java moss...and a fair few others...have always grown well for me at 24 - 25 °C :)

    CO2 Refills...

In Liverpool, North West I've used Express Gas to obtain a whopping 6.35kg C02 cylinder. Tel: 0151- 487 0570 It was an initial £30 deposit for the cylinder and £15 for the C02 and £15 for all 6.35kg replacements thereafter... [empty collected and new cylinder delivered] These cylinders are...

CO2 Injection on External Filter Outlet

I eventually came to regret the amount of time I wasted with inline diffusion methods and returned to a well concealed bazooka much to the benefit of my tank. The absorption of C02 into the water column just seems to be far superior with a super-fine 'mist' that just hangs there. With well...

    Greetings One And All...

I'm Mike from Liverpool U.K.... Like many [it seems] I have returned to fish-keeping as a later life interest having spent a reasonable period in my youth fairly engrossed in the hobby. I suppose the 'inactive gap' has been 35 years all told and I've been greatly inspired and encouraged by...
