    Shrimp Bedfellows

I know this discussion is about keeping shrimp in a community tank but I think it may be a good idea to point out that a lot of the fish listed will eat baby shrimp given half the chance.

Feeding Crystal red shrimp and cherry shrimp

I use a mixture as well; Sera Shrimp Natural - This is cheap and the shrimps love it! Hikari crab cuisine - Readily available, I usually crush this up. Shirakura Chi Ebi baby shrimp food - Especially for babies - smells like yeast (promotes micro bacteria apparently). Once or twice a week I...

    Plants for shrimp breeding tank

Hi Andy I have got a small collection of moss - seems to be a collection of different mosses that it got off the bloke I originally bought the shrimp off. I have also got a small amount of fissiden fontanus (very small amount). I could probably do with some more but I am a bit cautiouos...

    Plants for shrimp breeding tank

Hi I am just about the set up breed tank for Crystal Red Shrimp and was wondering if anyone can recommend what plants to put in. It is going to be low tech (no CO2), I will be using Argos play sand with coral gravel as a substrate and do intend adding ferts or easycarbo. My water is soft and...

    Shirakura Red Bee Sand

Hi Amy You could ask https://www.rareaquatics.co.uk/ if they can get it. If not then I think you will have to get it from Germany, there are loads of Germany resellers listed - http://www.garnelenhaus.de/ stock it (€28.50 for 8 Litres) and will ship dry goods to the UK not sure how much...

    Shrimp/filter question

That's the one I bought, I stopped using it because it clogged up to easily. I would keep baby shrimp and berried females in a breeding trap. You could try putting a whole sponge filter over the inlet instead of a piece of sponge inside - the larger surface area should stop it clogging up as...

    Shirakura Red Bee Sand

Hi I am going to be setting up anew planted shimp only tank in the near future - has anyone tried this substate? I usually just use Argos Playsand with some coral sand/ coral gravel mixed in. Cheers Chris

    Shrimp/filter question

Some people use ladies tights or stockings (nylon ones I would Imagine). You can buy filter inlet caps on ebay, I bought one - it was reasonably well made (home made) but it clogged up far to easily so i ended up bining it.

    Clown Loach Question

I find the squashing method kind of cruel but the fish in my tank go crazy for the unshelled snails!

    Clown Loach Question

I may be going off the thread slightly and these may sound like a stupid questions but :- Fistly do assassin snails only eat other snails, I keep various shrimps and micro crabs - I couldn't really foresee a problem with them eating shrimps but is it likely they could attack the crabs...

    Hair algae

Mine was called Bingo (the kids name some of the fish :) ) he cured a terible algae problem, but after reading a few more posts I think it might have been Black Bush Algae (I have heard they eat hair algae too though). He used to chase my Corys but I don't think he actually ever hurt anyone...

    Eheim 2213 or Eden 501

Have you considered a sponge filter - if it is for a shrimp breeding tank these are the safest filters - If it is a display tank they look a bit naff.

Conundrum... Inverts Dying - Water Parameters?

Re: Conundrum... Hi, As far as the shrimps are concerned it could just be done to a sudden change in the water - ie if you transported them in a small amount of water and then filled the tank at your sisters. Shrimps are fine with changes in water parameter but not sudden large changes - they...

How to attach breeding trap to tank

Hi Guys Thanks for the prompt replies. I think a combination of both of these methods might be the safest. I have just decommissioned one of those traps - Unfortunately the metal strips weren't long enough for me to use - Do you know if it is possible to buy the strips? or what type of...

Little fish for my little tank

Hi Luna Don't worry your English is better than most of the people in this forum (including mine). There are lots of lovely little fish out there but you are obviously quite limited by the size of your tank. Bettas are quite pretty and they don't mind small tanks but I find them quite boring...
