    Filter for Betta

I just set up a betta 30cm cube. Used the dennerle nano corner filter. You can adjust the flow plus it has a little spraybar so it's very flexible.

    Smallest Internal Filter

The dennerle nano corner filter. Has a small attached spraybar and fits nicely in the corner.

    Bedtime Swamp

I like it to. What's the tank size and equipment?

    Glute examples

I also dose, around 2ml Easy Carbo per day in a 50 liter tank. I guess it works. Check my signature.

    Slow grower

Nice tank! Those fish look good, would be an original choice. Although not sure if they look good with your dad colour. Which inlet and outlet pipes are you using? I have the green eheim, these smoke coloured look good. Was also considering the eheim lily, but that little piece of green :arghh:

Slow & Steady - First tank!

Tank looks much bigger than the 20 liter it is, nicely done!

    33L Yellow Cube

Looks good. Good idea to learn how to grow plants (first).I use the same filter with the spraybar on a 50 liter tank. The flow will be too strong for a betta. You can always drill extra holes and make the existing holes bigger, I did the same. I think the filter inlet should be lower, but not...

Surface scum - what causes it?

I also had it in the first few months of my new tank (but did not have algae) I searched the forum and the general consensus I think was some sort of stress reaction from the plants, the cause is hard to tell, and that the scum normally will disappear after a few weeks. It is more common on new...

Good luck! Looking forward to see the progress.

carpet plant for low tech no co2

Helanthium tenellum is working for me. But is not a very low plant. I do dose liquid carbon. Crypt parva stays a little smaller, but grows very very slow so you have to buy a lot. Marsilea hirsuta is also an option I heard.

    Return of the living roots.

    Magical tank.

    Cycle guidance

Not much to add with my limited experience. But it's important to plant heavily. I threw in a bunch of (cheap) Hornwort and removed it after a few months.

Hmm.. depends if there is sufficient change/happening. Maybe weekly in the beginning? Thanks!

No Filter, No Heater, No co2, No Ferts. Walstad Nano Fish Tank

Nicely done video! I am toying with the idea of such a tank so am following with interest.

The Celestial Swamp - A voyage through a flooded forest fringe (Shallow Riparium)

Very cool tank. Must be nice to see the wood in the background again. Do you have any plants growing on the wood submersed?

    Easy jungle - 50 liter

A question about puning the java fern. Does it matter which leaves to remove, the older or newer growth?
  17. paul_j

    TryHard Dutch Aquascape (Ukaps Edition!)

I like it! Except for the piece of wood on the right, placement is a little odd right before the grout of plants. How old is the tank? It looks pretty mature already.

    Heavy Rocks - Any Concern?

Have you seen this scape? Big rock inspiration:)

    Easy jungle - 50 liter

The last 2 months plant growth is very good. It´s time to prune the fern. The anubias in the back is no longer visible, Bucephalandra also almost overgrown. The helanthium tenellum in the front sends out 2 runners a week! The big crypts I planted at the back are touching water level, looking...

Advice with ferts and liquid co2

If you want to be sure and don't want to think about how many ferts to add, I would just order the powders to make your own ferts and dose the EI. I also dose liquid carbon and the EI (sometimes forget a day, doesn't matter) and it's working great.

    Aquascaper 900 - 1 Year Update . Thinking of a rescape soon.

Great start! I like that the upside of the piece of wood is horizontal.

    Oto behaviour

My oto's also keep to themselves and don't try to compete. Exception is when I give Sera spirulina tab, once a week stick it to the glass. They come hang around, mixing in with all the other fish and big Amano to try and get some.

    phosphate deficiency

I also had holes in the leaves of H. Polysperma. I don't use CO2, only liquid carbon. The plant grew very fast.. I decided to dim the lights and it worked. The plant began growing slower but looking healthy. I don't have a lot experience, but maybe you could try to lower the lightning level...

    Easy jungle - 50 liter

Started trying to feed the otocinclus some courgette. The second time they found it. This one is now almost two days in so softer, think they like it more. I use a plastic chop-stick, pretty convenient! Also bought some spirulina window tabs from Sera. The guppys went crazy off course but the...

    Carpet plant

I now have a mix of: - Cryptocoryne parva / durable but grows very slow or not at all - Helanthium tenellum (Echinodorus tenellus) / is going well, but a gets a little bigger Earlier had Monte carlo, but it did not make it.

    Easy jungle - 50 liter

BBA.. OK thanks. Especially the carpet plants have the black spots and edges. I also noticed one of the wood-branches has the black fluffy type but only on the underside near the substrate (last picture in the center). Does that mean it's mainly a flow issue? Do Amano or Oto's eat BBA?

    Fish choice

I have Ember tetra´s. Great character fish, they are lively but very friendly and stay small. I´d love to keep them in the future as a big school in a bigger tank. But I sometimes wish I chose the green neons as my Ember´s stay pretty pale in colour. On pictures they are always brighter. But my...

    Suggestions and advice

I use ADA in my medium tech (low light with liquid carbon). Planting is sometimes difficult because it´s so light weight, and always cloudy water when disturbing the substrate. But it looks nice and maybe helps with plant growth:)

    Liquid carbon

I use it since starting my first scape. Easy life carbo (2 ml for a 50 liter aquarium). I´m happy, no algea problems yet, thinks it helps.

    Easy jungle - 50 liter

Update! - the Oto´s are all still alive. 4 of them have round bellies, 1 still pretty skinny. I had black edges and spots around on lot of leaves, seems a little bit better now, think the Oto´s and maybe the flow. If it gets worse I´ll ask advice here :) I tried floating plants before...

    Easy jungle - 50 liter

Hi, I started my first tank since childhood in September 2017. I´ve been reading the forums for a while, not posting a lot. A mistake I made was not being 100% happy with the hardscape before flooding the tank. So I changed a lot since the start. I figured the easiest solution was to try a...

    Plants for tall wood

Maybe wrap Hydrocotyle tripartita (sp. Japan) around it? I have no experience with this plant yet, but I'm planning to do this in my tank.

    Green Shallows... 80g/300L rimless frag/shallow

Indeed. Both look good and are an inspiration, but I get your point. It's good to bee able to peek trough the aquascape.

    Nano Tank Expert Needed

I started a nano 6 months ago (Dennerle 50L scapers tank) . You can get them including hang-on filter and light etc. But after research I decided it's best to get decent stuff now instead of wanting to upgrade in the future. So I got the tank and a seperate Eheim classic extern filter (440L per...

    nano cube 20lt

Your tank looks fantastic. I have a similar set-up with easycarbo and the a451. May I ask, on which dimmer setting do you have the Chihiros and how many hours per day?

    ADA 45P Mountain Hardscape

I agree with Danny. I think the left one stands out because it's more green than the other rocks, so perhaps when planted not a problem.

Emerald Dwarf Rasbora - Dither Fish?

I have ember tetra (13) in a 50 liter tank, since 3 weeks. They would not call them very shy but they did stay mainly in the back and lower between the plants and behind some wood. Last week I added 3 male endlers and and the Embers immediately got more confident and out-going. I think Endlers...

    Easy carbo when on holiday

I´m back form holiday and wanted to report here. Light was/is on level 1 for 7 hours. Crypt Nevillii and Parva look the same (pretty good), H. Polysperma leaves look better and definitely grow slower. But the Monte Carlo ´carpet´ is thinner than when I left. Older growth is yellow/brown and...

Ada Aqua Soil Amazonia and planting

You could start with easy fast growing plants plus a few more difficult. Then you have a lot of bioload in the beginning, that's a plus. Later on you can replace the easy ones gradually with the ones you want. That's my tactic right now as a beginner.

Ada Aqua Soil Amazonia and planting

I can say I planted immediately (with a lot of plants) and all went well. But I think you should have everything thought out as there are a lot of important factors: light, filter, co2.

    Plant id

Yes, it resembles Hygrophila polysperma. Check out the pics of my tank. The stem plants are all H. Polysperma.

    Easy carbo when on holiday

Thanks for the info. The Hygrophila polysperma is not looking good, holes in a lot of old leaves, and new leaves are not looking healthy. Also the surface scum so I guess it's in stress. So I think light is to high/co2 to low. I don't want to give more liquid carbon so decided to set the...

    Easy carbo when on holiday

    Easy carbo when on holiday

Hi, I´m dosing easy carbo in my 2 months old tank of 50L, 1,2 ml per day (1-2 ml is recommended on bottle). I have Java moss, hygrophila polysperma, cryptocoryne parva and nevellii, monte carlo and bucephalandra sp.brown. I dose around 7 pumps of Tropica specialised per week (5 pumps is...

    Hello I'm Paul

Hi, I'm Paul, 31 from the Netherlands. As a teenager I already was into tanks and fishes. Last year I saw Amano's style tanks, thought Wow, read a lot and decided to start a 50L scapers tank. I figured the best mix to learn to grow plants, not algae (like before), low investment, low-maintenance...

Journal Black Cube 123 Version II

Hi Ed, which species are the tall plants left and right? They would suit well in my small tank, for the background, I think. I'm now in the cycling fase of my first planted tank and have the fast growing Heteranthera dubia and Hygrophila polysperma (indeed growing fast!). In a few months I might...
