    59W Fluval 3.0 for 5ft Juwel Tank - Help.

Good morning all, In a bit of quandary about lighting for my 5ft Juwel 450 Vision. For some months I've been using Asta 120'S (Cheaper chinese COB's from Amazon), which I really love the shimmer, they've grown my plants well etc, however, admittedly they are not great in regards to quality...

    Cat Litter Molar Clay Substrate

I had a Juwel 180 Rio for a few years until I upgraded to my current tank. I bit the bullet one year and bought two big bags of Tropical Aquarium Plant Soil, was about £70 delivered from memory I think? Worth it though, made a big difference.

    Prodibio Fertilisers??

Hi all, Just wondering if people have used any of the Prodibio ferts? Either the Pro or in conjunction with the ultimate? Debating trying it out on both of my tanks, just not alot online review wise. Any information would be great. Many thanks

10 ppi vs floss/wool for polishing

I have two filters, an FX4 rammed with biological media (Alphagrog) and some medium filter sponge, then a JBL E1501 which is purely biological & chemical....however I run a APS Pre-filter that I have differing layers of sponge, through to a floss. I wouldn't like bother with floss in my main...

    Maintaining a Sloped Substrate?

Thank you all for the replies, I opted for large rocks and a few bits of plastic card to help support it, then heavily plant.

    Nicrew Lighting

Always found them to be good, wrote a large review on Amazon about them. Ran one on an experimental low tech 24litre tank, then ran two bigger ones on my 450litre and have had good results:

    Benefit of using soil

I setup a very low tech Nano about 6 months ago as a bit of an experiment. I used Wickes own brand Top Soil (in a blue sack) capped with some leftover Tropica soil and it's grown plants amazingly well!

    Maintaining a Sloped Substrate?

Good evening all, I'm planning on setting up a Scapers 55L Nano this week, I have a whole heap of Tropica substrate along with quite bit of Seiryu stone and some lovely wood I've picked up. I'd really like to bank the rear of the tank, or perhaps to one corner. Using the rocks alone to...

Nicrew LED controller anybody used one?

Hi Steven, I set up a small planted Nano tank for my daughter about 4 months ago, I have a small Nicrew LED unit which is fantastic. I recently bought the digital timer. It's brilliant, I watched a video on Youtube on how to programme but the instructions are easy enough to follow. I have...

    Harvesting your own wood

Ive cut branches off my apple tree, let them dry over a couple of months and removed the bark. Added them to the tank and had no issues at all.

Order of filter media in external filter

Although not using the same filters as you, here is my filter setup for my 450litre tank, and has proved very effective. I run a JBL E1501 with a APS pre-filter. The pre-filter contains sponge only, with the water hitting corse first, filtering through to fine, before heading to the main...

    Quiet HOB

Black type algae stunting growth...advice required.

Thank you, I seem to have solved this issue , I have adjusted my circulation pump and filter outflows and now get a nice circular motion through the tank. DC is a lime green on lights on and remains for the photoperiod. Only have the one HO T5 running over the tank to let all the plants recover...

Juwel 450 Vision - Hardscape ideas...?

Hello all, I currently have a Juwel Vision 450 which I managed to get for about £50 having moved up from a Rio 180 which I had heavily planted. Its taking me some time getting used to the complexities of a larger tank but it seems i'm getting there slowly now. However I'm just not happy with...

Running two filters through single hoses

As above, I looked into this long ago and opted not to. Seems the issues that can arise far out weigh the pro's. If you want better flow you'd be better picking up a couple of cheaper wavemakers.

Thank you, that makes perfect sense. Lots to learn. I have knocked off two of my 54W T5 Bulbs and increased my CO2 for the time being to see if that will gradually bring my plants back to health.

Thank you, I think I'll keep my newly increased Co2 and knock two bulbs off. They work on a two bulb per plug system as its an iquatic juwel replacement system.

I've seen people running more lights than I have only smaller tanks though and not had issues? Hmmmmm, if I ran only one light the tank would be very dim :(

On a slight side note I didn't think 216watts of light for a 450lire aquarium was classed as high light?

Black type algae stunting growth...advice required.

I see, so would I after time just increase it slightly, more and more and then add in the extra lights?? I'm fortunate that they run two bulbs per switch, but like the extra lighting so was hoping to adjust my co2 to allow use of all my lights. Like you said though, baby steps.

Black type algae stunting growth...advice required.

So whacked it up today, was green at lights on. However fish started to gasp about 1600hrs, only a couple of hours after lights on? What I'm struggling to understand is how I would achieve a high level of Co2 without gassing my fish when I need to achieve a green drop checker for lights on?

Thank you very much for the reply, appreciated and quite informing. Sounds stupid, but not having done one before, who do I complete a PH profile?? Thank you for the info, it would appear the issue is to high lights for the co2 im providing.

I'm using a drop checker to monitor co2, generally turns green an hour or so before lights off, just worried id gas the fish out.

Thank you, I'll probably cut down on the sponges as that will slow the flow down. My system is a 2kg FE running into an inline diffuser on the outlet of one of my spraybars that is then picked up by one of my 3000lph wavemakers, the bubbles make it throughout the tank and generally have good...
