I have found that the primer on this is worse than useless. I have found that if you undo the prefilter compartment and fill the filter that way with water from the tank it works. once it starts pumping give the filter a gentle shake.

Have you tried soapy water on all the joints to see if that's where the leaks are?

My opinion is that most aquarium Digital thermometers are inaccurate and unreliable. If you want a fairly reliable reading then your talking glass thermometers or a calibrated probe.

I built myself one of these, Easy to calibrate and reliable. I check it once a year using a well known brand of temperature probes.

What's the tank size and wattage of the heater?

From the pic it looks like your drop checker is weak.

I would move the drop checker to a different location and see what difference that makes. Also, try a different solution if you are worried about it.

Fill a container with the amount of water you use for the water change and leave it standing for 24hrs. this should allow any Co2 to dissipate.

Dont waste your money, use dechlorinated tapwater its cheaper and quicker that waiting for it to permeate through the filter.

The rad must have some sort of isolator on it? If so maybe you could turn it off that way.
