Don't suppose you have any hydrocotyle tripartita "mini" cuttings going spare as I don't want to but a pot just for the tank? Looking really good by the way, mine is ok, but the moss has died off for some reason, but luckily have some more from another tank to transfer!
Just out of interest, what lighting level are you using for this as I’m at the lowest right now with just some Buce Deep Purple and a few bits of moss?

That’s why I decided to remove the heater altogether and use a external filter, but I would use a guard after seeing the effects of heater burns on my Ottos :-(

Hi All,
So I’m about to rescape one of my tank that housed CRS that currently has a GH 8/9, KH0 and PH around 6.5.
Now, I know we have had many conversations on using active substrates with tap, so,I’m going to give it a go this time so, what sort of GH/KH should I aim for using my liquid...
Hi Chris,
I’m probably going to be keeping it as planted for now... not sure I’m happy putting any shrimp in... anyway, updated photos attached.. growing steadily and plenty of W/C’s..
Still loving the ease of cleaning and access :-)

If they are all Neos then yes, they eventually got back to being wild colours, but some people like skittles tanks :)

As George mentioned and other have said, the problem with spot lighting is if you sit below it, then the spill into your eyes can be quite strong and distracting etc.. I had the same issue with my to be sold Hydra 52HD where it was far too bright and I ended up looking at it more than the TV...
That’s true.. but nothing beats “touching” & “feeling” before you buy! I love the frodo stone they stock, it’s give some real texture to an aquascape :-)

Thanks for your answers, the reason i'm asking is i have a hit and miss approach to high tech tanks, where by I often get hit with BBA even tho the CO2/Ferts are max and the only thing left is the light intensity.. There are a couple of plants that require high light, but the others don't so...
HI All,
When designing an aquasape, how do you deciede what plant to use on the foreground/Middle/Background? If you are running high tech, what balance of fast/slow growing do you incorporate into the design?
Also, do you tend to have a balance of Easy/Medium and Hard type plants in the tank...
No, luckily someone was sell one in the forum... I didn’t know they were that expensive from the resellers!
I’ve seen them on various other sites much cheaper... but the hassle of shipping puts the price up!

Heater and controller added today....
Tanks doing well, only have Buce Deep Purple and moss, but thinking about adding some floating plants?
Light is on for 4.5hrs a day on a 5v timer I found.. working well so far and looks good apart from the high temperatures fluctuations [emoji23]

I was lucky enough to get my hands on these new Mini Complete Tanks recently and thanks to the generosity of a fellow scaper, I have finally scraped it!
Let me know what you think, will post some follow up shots and video once I’ve edited it...
Thanks,
Chris!
It's worth trying once my one opens in Fareham... Not sure many people test RO before use even when making their own supply? As long as the TDS is 0, its fine for me :-)
Interesting find... I have one opening up near me, so is it cheaper than an RO machine long term? Good for that time you've run out and need to use some in a hurry?
Hi all,
So I admit that biting off more than I could chew with a marine and three freshwater tanks meant they all suffered with lack of time... I was made redundant at the end of last year and have since found a new job with better hours and much closer to home as well as fitting into the aqua...
Just subscribed :-) Be interested to watch it develop... from what I’ve seen of the other, to keep it algae free, you have to pack it with plants!

Thats amazing mate... Going to get one after this month once the money is replenished! Wish all tanks only took 8 minutes to complete ay?
I have been following the FB/Insta pages to see what other have done, and its great what can be achieve in such a small tank.. Its finding the smallest...
I had them a while ago when running my marine tank and couldn't keep them alive for more than a month or so.. Could have been the salt as I was using H2Ocean meant for marine reef tank at a SG of 1.007-10, but they just didn't last :(
Not many keepers know they can't survive in freshwater very...
Nice tank!
Are you injecting CO2 all the time or do you have a timer on it? From the picture, it looks manual?
Well done and looks algae free and happy fish..

I've checked and the smallest they have is for 12mm piping.. will be ordering a Thermo 100 for my other tank as I'd like to get the heater out and tidy it up a bit more!
This is my shrimp and new light tank, it’s in recovery as being neglected is to various issues! :-)
Be interested you parameters if you get the chance to test?

Hi James,
Interesting... I guess the catappa logs will help bring the PH down a little.. have you tested to see what it is out of interest? I do find CRS breed slower than RCS, but could be just me!
Going to buy a couple of extra shrimp to boost the population as to limit the interbreed and...
I have a heavily planted tank with Crystal Red Shrimp, which are doing very well, and thriving!
My question is, how do you guys that live in a hard water area use to soften your water? I have a full RODI setup and use Bee Shrimp GH+ with Dennerle scapers soil to give my tank a nice soft ph of...
So it sounds to me that he may regret planting it in that tank going forward?
What would be an equally fast plant, but not quite as uncontrollable to replace it with? Monticarlo?
Be interesting if he updates us on the tank in the future or it gets rescaped :-)

Hi All,
I am set on replacing the living room tank with a Fluval Flex 57l tank as the one I have currently is limited in high and light due to a shelf being directly above the tank! Anyway, I have watched George Farmers video on his scape and feel inspired to create one similair:
At around...
Thats looking amazing, and make sense that the frogbit is too big, as I have it in my 25ltr tank and find its rather large, so may look at replacing it with some minima when I do the next rescape.
I am looking at importing one of these, but its not as easy as I thought, but can order direct...
Very short video of the new light in place on my recovery tank.. Excuse the BBA, this is being worked on and all leaves removed after the video was taken (should have waited)!! But first impressions are very good and would say its worth the money for the quality... Yes it properly more expensive...
Hi all,
I have a small OASE FiltroSmart 60 canister filter that I'm running and testing on my planted tank and wanted to replace the standard plastic looking inlet/outlet with glass lily pipes. However, the tubing is 8/12mm, and I can't seem to find suitable attachments in that size piping and...
A few photos of the packaging of the new light, will set it up and post a few more images and a video if I get time :-)

The light is due for delivery tomorrow which isn’t bad considering it’s taken 5days to get here! Will report back soon :-)

You have to pay VAT when customs choose, although as they use DHL is been most items they’ve caught me on! Works out at around £110 inc VAT and delivery.... guess it’s swings and roundabout, but I’ve not found a light that fits my 25l planted as yet and don’t think the twin star fits a tank...
Not that I have found and this is different to app controller version as this one doesn’t have that level of control... it’s a button on the lamp to set the light levels and the ramp up and down is on turn on etc...
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed.. maybe its an Asian thing?? I've seen a few people use these on a high tech planted, so am hoping its a winner! Its got to be better than the light I have at the moment!
Hi All,
I will post a review of this light once it arrives from Taiwan, but I have seen a few people use this light on a nano tank, and love the fact it has a built in dimmer function, which my current light (Dennerle Power LED 5.0) doesn't without an inline one:-
It also has a ramp up and...
Hi Chris, How long have you had the tank running now and hows it looking? I love the fact you have some frogbit covering the top.... I struggle to keep it small enough! I am going to purchase one of these to practise "MicroScaping" and am looking for idea nano plants... Not sure i'd house any...
Hi All,
Looking for ideas to aquascape my AquaOne 55l tank to be more community friendly as this was my first tank! This is the size/picture here:
I want to get rid of the gravel substrate as I have Bronze Cory's and its not doing there mouths any good with the rough gravel. The plants are...
Just a quick update to say that everything is starting to come back with 15ppm CO2 injection and will be moving over to full EI dosing shortly as well as increasing the lighting duration next weekend..
Thanks for all your help :-)
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't have a controller for it, just one of these dimmers you can get as I'd didn't think i'd be sticking at it in my nano.. But actually I really do like the way the tank is tuning out.. Even though its been a pain in the butt.. I've recently added some Chilli Rasbora's and they give the tank...
Thanks Ian... I have had the tank running a few months, so they are settled etc.. I have just put the CO2 back in, so am starting from scratch in that respect.. I'm running at 15ppm as recommended and all seems to be good so far... Going for 8 hours maximum in a couple of week and will monitor...
So far so good.. Still awaiting the EI Dosing kit to arrive, but seems to be just about hitting green on the DC before the lights come on.. I'm popping the CO2 on 2 hours before the lights, and its a nice slow 1 bubble every couple of seconds, and the light is currently at 25%.
Dosing 3ml of...
Thanks Barbara..
So, now that I have the DC showing green, do i take it, that now I have to balance the light and nutrients and leave the CO2 alone, or am I still juggling three balls?
The light has been dimmed to around 25% and I've added my normal fertiliser to the water until the EI mix...
Got you!
So, my plan of action will be to reintroduce my CO2 setup @ 15PPM (DC halved with RO), reduce the lighting period via a dimmer (which I have an inline one) and does the EI ferts as per the dosing schedule..
As for the lighting coming on, do I turn the CO2 on 2 hours before the light...
Hi Ian, Thanks for the reply..
I already have a couple of those ingredients, so could make up the missing ones from that site!
Could you go into a little more detail about the lighting control... How would I fine tune this and know other than melting the plants.. They haven't melted so far...
I guess the next thing is the fertiliser amount to add with the co2 injection with a fairly high powered lighting.. Currently I dose 1ml of excel with 2.5ml of ferts, but I will properly have to increase this if I add it back in as the excel is causing some of the plants to melt :(
Didn't think...
Thanks Darrel, its my mis-understanding of the way DC's work as I though the PH had an impact on the measurement.. Thats good to know :-)
The problem is with adding KH to the water is that the substrate will try and remove it wouldn't it?
Hi all,
May seem like a silly question, but I have wondered if you can run CO2 injection with a buffered substrate when the PH is already at 6-6.5?
My current 25lt tank did have a small CO2 setup, but the PH dropped to around 5.5 and I then couldn’t use the DC or chart correctly.. or so I...
Not sure if this adds to my CO2 issue, but I use a buffering substrate where it lowers my PH to around 6-6.5 so I found when adding CO2, the PH dropped even lower.. my water is at GH8 and KH0 due to remineralising for Caridina shrimp...?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hmmm.. only option is back to CO2?
I could never get the balance right between the injection amount and battling algae :-(
The DC was green but algae was riff... it was being turned on 1-2hours before the light and 30mins before in the evening... adding a complete fert as well...
Since...
Hi all,
I have some Helianthum Tenellum 'Broad leaf’ growing in my 25litre planted shrimp/fish tank, but it doesn’t seem to be too happy.
About 6 months ago I removed the CO2 setup and started a daily dosing schedule of 1ml Excel and 2.5ml Macro/Micro fertiliser mix..
I wonder if its being...
I've never used equilibrium, but have remineralize lots of RO for shrimp so can only give you what i'd do :-)
What do you plan to have in the tank as this could change the amount you remineralise to, but to start with the cycle I would follow the instructions on the bottle and test the...
Just wanted to give you all an update on the tank and the progress I've made over the last few weeks!
I've added a mix of Cherry Reds/Blue Velvets shrimps who have settled in nicely and also produced the first batch of shrimplets :-)
On the algae front, since removing the CO2, I started to...
Ah yes, thats the difference between the fish tank and the planted, its soft water with low PH etc.. Interestingly, it doesn't last long if it gets stuck under water, so surely in a fast flowing streams, it would be dragged under by its roots wedged into the substrate?
As some of you know, I seem to have no trouble in growing successfully Limnobium laevigatum, even if I don't mean too! Anyway, I noticed that some of them are growing really long roots :-
So, based on that, I have a couple of questions :-)
Why are the roots growing so long in my planted tank...
Your are welcome and glad its getting a new home rather than being thrown away! Let me know how you get on with it as its a great plant... I've removed most of the duckweed as it does my head in being cycled through the filter!.. Great if you have a dedicated tank or pot for it tho..
It seems to be the only thing i can grow successfully during my planted tank experiment :-) Its also under a very bright LED lamp, so this may also help in the rapid growth! what I don't understand is I have had the frogbit for over 6 months growing out, and all of a sudden the duckweed...
Believe it or not, this is the tank I almost neglect and change water one every two weeks...
Thanks for the compliments Darrel :-)

Yes, I know who you are and have seen your messages in other posts :-) I'm adding some CRS into the tank tomorrow, so am looking forward to it.. for now I'm going to leave the CO2 out as the tank is seemingly doing ok!
So, a little update on progress..
I’ve removed the CO2 system from the tank on Monday and have continued to do the 2.5ml fertiliser daily but not add any additional KNO3 since Sunday and everything appears to be clearing up nicely..
Still early days, but I don’t think it was the right time to...
I’ve decided to remove the CO2 system from the tank as it’s not helping with the algae issue and the shrimps aren’t happy.. so, can see me turning this into a shrimp only tank as it’s harder to run planted than even I thought... not sure if I need to dose daily ferts or turn to weekly?
Shrimps...
Just a little update on progress.. changed my mind and purchased some blue velvet shrimps and introduced them today... they jumped straight onto the algae and started munching away and also swimming about quite happily... not sure if it takes a while for them to be unhappy or it’s an instant...
Thanks mate for being so patient :-)
This was more complex than I thought being a planted shrimp tank, especially after keeping a marine tank!
I’ve made up some new fertiliser mix and KNO3 this evening, so will start to add it from tomorrow.. I’ll probably do another change to bring the TDS a...
Sorry, dose of water as in next water change... [emoji4]
The TDS has risen this morning to 158? Added Fertilizer and didn’t see an increase?
Could the rock be adding to the TDS as well?

Alright, as I already had 15l of RO ready for a saltmix, I redirected 10l to the planted tank and performed a water change :-)
TDS is now 130, but will test again before the fertilisers are added to verify the reading...
Should I do another change this week or wait until next Sunday/Monday for...
Okey... sounds good.. will let you know the results.. am i ok to weekly water changes after that? Or another one after the RO only change?

I am about to do a water change tomorrow, so will aim to get the tank down to around a TDS of 150 and see where the TDS is after each day of adding the fertiliser.
The floating plants are certainly doing well and multiplying, so they seem to be happy with the current status. Guess the algae is...
Thanks Konsa, I have added some frogbit to the tank this week and it’s doing really well! So the tank will be dimmer in no time!
Looks like I’m going for the Neo’s.. thanks for all you help :-)
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So should I keep the water at 0KH and continue with the water parameters I have?
David, what do you have as your parameters and just wonder then if I should adjust the ferts as you mentioned?
Will my algae come back tho without the daily ferts?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok, if you see my other thread, I may remove the CO2 from the tank and remove or reduce the fertiliser to make it Shrimp safe?
