    New wildlife pond - Confused!

What about adding watercress? It grows in my pond, in London, through out the year, even when the pond is iced over! All you need is a bag from a supermarket - just throw in any leaves on stalks. You can always pull it all out later in the year when you get plants you prefer. But don't eat it!

    Help! Filters disconnected since Sunday!

The fish all seem fine! Perhaps the fact that the tank has been running for 20 years and presumeably has a good colony of bacteria in the gravel may have helped. But I'm going to keep a close eye on them And write a checklist for the next waterchange!

    Help! Filters disconnected since Sunday!

Bradders I was worried the bacteria in them would have died. Ian_M I'm glad I'm not the only one! Simon Luckily the tank is fairly heavily planted and the sump pump keeps the water moving. Thank you!

    Help! Filters disconnected since Sunday!

I did a fifty percent watwer change on Sunday and left the filters unplugged! The tank is 850litres including sump where there are two Schurans fillled with filter floss. The disconnected filters are an Eheim Pro 3 and an Eheim Pro 4+. The fish are 9 Congo Tetra 7 Hatchets 4 Angels 1 Ancistrus...

Will getting a bigger tank scratch the itch?

I have a 6 foot tank (Having had 4 x 110 - 300 litres plus multiple fry tanks). I can only keep fish that can tolerate London tap water. (I used to have Altum angels and bred farlowellas) It takes 4 hours to do a water change - even using a python and draining straight into the front garden...

Life expectancy of aquarium silicone ?

I keep meaning to start a journal! But it would mainly be an account of my battle with the Clown Loaches who have very strong views on where I can and can't put plants - so far, and for the last 10 years, they are winning!

Life expectancy of aquarium silicone ?

This is very much on my mind at the moment. I have a 200 x 70 x 60 cm tank that is over 20 years old. In continuous use but with waterchanges. It's not just the tank that worries me but the mdf stand it sits on. I think it was made by SeaBray.

Half my Fluval Plant 3s have died and I have been recommended these as an upgrade. Tank size 77"l x 30" h x 24" d. Plants are ordinary, Crypts, Hygropylla as they have to cope with 7 Clown Loaches. Thanks!

    UKAPS Meet in Spring 2023

So sorry, but I 'm not going to make it tomorrow. I 've got Covid brain (just flooded the living room doing a water change -aagghhh!) and shouldn't drive with my lack of concentration! I'm really sad, I was so looking forward to it!!!! Fingers crossed we will have another gathering very soon.

transfering aquatic plants from a local pond

I think the second one is creeping jenny, Lysimachia nummularia. If it is, it's brilliant for covering the edges as it's terrestrial but survives happily in water too. And it makes yellow flowers.

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

Thank you for keeping up with your journal. I am someone who has never had a quarantine tank and has been lucky enough to get away with it over the years. But after hearing what has happened to you, and knowing how well you care for your fish, I'm not going to risk it any more. No more fish...

    quarantine??

My issue with a quarantine tank is that after the fish had been moved to the main tank I would put some nice wood in it and some interesting stones. And then a few plants. Quite a few. And it would look a bit sad without anyone living in it. So I'd get some shrimp - I've never kept shrimp. And...

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

@shangman I got a stunning Echinodorus with spots but I've forgotten what it's called. It's loach proof so far! And a Microsorum sunrise too - just beautiful. I also got Blyxa jap. Ludwigia mini red and a couple of other things which, if not chomped on or squashed, may grow enough to make me...

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

I went up to Wild Woods today to collect the plants I'd ordered on Friday. They look fantastic! If WW appear to have run out of something you want, it's always worth asking as they have more plants both in the quarantine room and another storage room. ( I will post pics of my tank one day but...

Poll: what level of tech do you have/prefer?

I voted high tech because I do have CO2 but nominally I suspect in a 100 gallon tank. But lots of floating plants and 'easy' plants in gravel. (it would definitely be low tech if it weren't for the CO2)

    Building Works and Tank

I use a Python attached to the kitchen tap ( but you could just use a hose from a garden tap ) to fill plastic dustbins next to the tank and then a cheap pond pump to pump the water in. (500l change on a 1000l system.)

Clown loach sidthimunki and Crypts/ suitable plants

My loaches don't seem to damage the leaves. I feed them JBL nova tabs and Spirulina tablets. They live behind a large piece of wood covered in Anubias. Sounds like it depends on the loaches!

Clown loach sidthimunki and Crypts/ suitable plants

I have 7 clown loaches in a 1000l tank. My main problem is that they dig up anything that gets in their way - they have routes around the tank. I use a lot of wood with Anubias attached. Crypts do well, so does Tiger Vallis. My other battle is with the angels who eat Aponogetum and anything...

    Lighting help on deep tank

My tank is 76cm deep (198 L x 60W). It is still a work in progress but I am growing plants successfully with two rows of fluval 3.00 Plant, with Co2 and feeding three times a week with TNC complete. My 'carpet' plant is cryptocoryne which is about 15cms tall. I have tried and failed to grow...

    How intelligent are fish?

I'm not sure that this is quite relevant, but over the years I have found tiny fish fry in the sump under my tank (Diamond tetra and Corys), in the bottom of external filters (Corys), and in what I thought was an uninhabited breeding tank (Praecox rainbow). I've reared them and when they were...
