    Oase BioMaster Thermo External Filter

Never got round to posting but near the end of last year my 600 thermo leaked and drained 75% of the contents of my 180L tank on the floor. I got the updated top housing some months before that but I never did find the root cause of the leak. It seemed like there was almost too much pressure...

Oase FiltoSmart Thermo: how loud is it?

I have one of these as a secondary filter in my tank alongside the bigger biomaster 600 thermo. The heaters in the oase filters do seem to make noises when they come on and off but obviously the frequency of that happening depends on the room temp and your target temp. It is one of the quieter...

    Best outlet

I’m just using a right angle bend on the pipe myself, no spraybar or lily pipe etc. At the moment just using the standard oase ones but soon I will upgrade to steel pipes. I have two filters so one on each end angled appropriately. The outlets are just far enough under the surface to not be...

Oase thermofilter owners - does your heater make a weird noise?

No mechanical timers but I know the sound you mean. I just have one digital timer for the co2 and it’s silent apart from the relay coming on and off on the schedule. It definitely seems to come from the heater

Hmm yeah most of the comments about that in that thread are mine :D I just wanted to surface this properly to see if anyone knows of a way to stop it happening or something

Oase thermofilter owners - does your heater make a weird noise?

hey folks, just wondering if those of you with a thermo filter from oase (filtosmart or biomaster) have heard a period weird noise from the filter? I’ve determined this is the heater but not sure if it’s a sign it’s bad or not. Both my biomaster and filtosmart do it. I have a sound clip...

10 ppi vs floss/wool for polishing

Thanks for all the opinions guys :) Yeah true about the clogging, that’s why I’d only use it in my secondary small filter. Carbon I haven’t used for almost 2 years now but did have a bit of mild sickness with a couple of the fish so had to treat. They are all better now! I think what I will do...

10 ppi vs floss/wool for polishing

Hi folks, just picked up an Oase filtosmart 100 thermo as a second filter for my tank. Nothing too fancy but it should help with the flow and some extra filtration! I intend to use this filter for my chemical filtration (purigen and carbon when needed) and polishing, along with skimming. I was...

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

True. I think the skimmer set for 12/16 pipes was £25, should be fine for import
  11. F

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

The skimmer one I found one AliExpress, I can’t recall the search I used but I’ll find the product page later. The normal one I bought from aquasabi. As it’s going to be for the main filter I wanted it quickly and any issues I know I can get support etc.

    Oase BioMaster Thermo External Filter

It’s the 600 thermo. I’ve had a few issues with it, like a weird noise every so often, but the main issue was constant purging of bubbles. Every 10-15 mins it would do this and no matter what I tried it continued so in the end I changed to a different filter. I’m hoping this new head solves the...

    Random spate of shrimp deaths

Interesting! I didn't know about "fake" amanos, will have to watch out for them. Generally I only clean once every 1-2 months, but with the crypt melt the filter is getting clogged fast even though I am taking the dead leaves out as often as I can. About half of the plants in my tank are...

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies and feedback! Based on what Tom has said I think I will skip the eheim part. In the end I decided to buy some chihiros metal pipework: The outflow has a joint so you can swivel it round. I'll use some extra jubilee clamps to make sure they don't come loose (I...

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

Thanks for the offer :) what I mean is right now with the jbl filter I find the flow is perfect without the spray bar, just describing the current setup really. When I did use a spray bar in the past I found all my shrimp would just hang around on it all day rather than actually help clean the...
  17. F

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

Hmm good idea but I am very paranoid about leaks after my HOB on my previous tank dumped the contents on the floor overnight stepping down to 16/22 would end up restricting the flow, probably not by much but it would be notable I reckon?
  18. F

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

I have thought about that Jay but the 1902 uses 19/25 pipes instead of the normal 16/22. I have yet to find an in-line that will fit that size. The combined flow rate of a biomaster 600 and filtosmart 100 would almost match the jbl, with the advantage of being able to shape the flow a bit with...

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

Nice find, thanks! Certainly looks like it might fit the bill and doesn’t look too offensive either. I’m thinking of adding an oase filtosmart 100 at the other end of the tank, alongside the biomaster 600 so hopefully that would be enough flow in total. Really limited on cabinet space but I can...

    Oase BioMaster Thermo External Filter

Interesting! Looks like a new way of clamping the impeller cover? Yeah I think air getting in due to blocked inflow can be a common thing in every filter. I had some crypt melt recently and it clogged the inflow pipe and the filter was blasting air out every few minutes. Previously with the...

    Oase BioMaster Thermo External Filter

Ah cool awesome! Were there any visible signs of changes? I wonder if I get in touch with them whether they would swap mine out as I complained about air issues a lot.
  22. F

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

Oh right interesting! The size for the biomaster would be standard 16/22. I am not too fussed if it's plastic etc, just anything that would help get good flow around the whole tank
  23. F

    Oase BioMaster Thermo External Filter

    Random spate of shrimp deaths

Hmm I think any special food I add would be gobbled up by the mollies pretty sharpish! You may have a point about roadworks, there are some houses being built at the other end of the village. I'll see if I can find out more. Could be... I wonder if some of them were just reaching their...

Is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe?

Ok so this might be a shot in the dark, but is there such a thing as a right angle lillypipe? If I was to use a standard lillypipe then it would be pointing towards the front of the...

    Random spate of shrimp deaths

It’s 200L (plus 15L for the filter). For the plants I use TNC complete at 21ml a day and the shrimp get fed an algae wafer or some hikari shrimp pellets every now and then. Generally there’s plenty of bits of algae and scraps for them to eat (I’ve seen them fend off fish to keep hold of food...

hey folks, I seem to be having a lot of amano shrimps dying lately and it’s really stumping me as to what is happening. I have that one, had it for about 9 months or so I think (since I started properly aquascaping) and it’s been perfectly fine. Which Diffuser

Interesting, maybe I need to soak it more? The bazooka I have has been working great so I guess I’ll keep using it until it gives up :) What kind of tetras are those? Never seen red/orange ones before!
  30. F

    Which Diffuser

Strangely I switched from a bazooka to a flux one and just couldn’t get many bubbles out of it. The bazooka does a fine mist but the flux seems to struggle (40 psi). I would say those styles of in tank diffusers are the best if you are looking for something a bit stealthy as they are easy to...

Seeing as the external will be larger than the internal, you should be pretty well placed for space so would be best to put the old media in the new filter.

    Oase BioMaster Thermo External Filter

Is the new head suppose to solve the air issue? When I ran that filter I also had that issue sporadically. I still really wish they would do a higher flow rate version, not a fan of having the heater in the tank :(
  34. F

    Oase heat up 300 broke.

Good to hear it was sorted. Oase definitely know about this as I contacted them directly when it happened. I’m pretty happy with my jbl filter now, just a shame I have to have a heater spoiling the view in my tank now :(

    Thread algae

Hmm I wasn't sure if it could be stag horn without branching! I have been cleaning my filter every 2 weeks recently, it's never really that dirty. I guess it's just down to the recent substrate change (it's triggered crypt melt so I guess that is making it worse!)
  36. F

    Oase heat up 300 broke.

I had this happen randomly overnight in my biomaster 600. Hadn't done anything the day before to cause it. This does seem to be a weakness of the filter design... I lost pretty much all of my dwarf gourami over the following 48 hours as a result (this happened in winter and the tank become...

    Thread algae

Reassuring to know I'm not the only one! I went from 6-7mm gravel only to tropical soil only and that has really knocked everything out of sync, just hoping the crypts recover. Thread algae

Hi guys, does this look like thread algae? It's definitely not stag horn as it isn't branching, just really long single strands that are growing quickly. Cheers for the link :) I might give that a go! I don't have any ph stuff at the moment, but I think I need it to try and work out what's going on with my co2 due to all the algae!
  41. F

    PH logger

Yeah I too haven’t found one that does logging. I could always get a cheap one from amazon and maybe set up a raspberry pi to photograph the display every 30 mins, but that’s kind of a pain lol

New diffuser caused bubble rate to go down

Hi guys. Not tried the bleach method yet but I will if soaking it in the tank for another few days doesn't work (put a different diffuser on at the moment). Forgot to write the pressure in the first post, but it's around 40-45 psi :)
  46. F

New diffuser caused bubble rate to go down

Hi everyone I recently replaced a bazooka diffuser with the flux diffuser from co2art. These are more or less the same aside from the clear fittings on the newer flux model. However I have noticed that even with the needle valve all the way open on the new diffuser, there is no more than 2bps...

    Daylight levels and lighting

I often run my lights in blue mode in the evenings for a few hours just after the main photo period. This helps for extended viewing and the blue light is set to a very very low intensity (5%) to avoid any algae issues, but is enough to just light it up

Charterhouse are ok but their returns aren’t great. I sent back a broken filter and it took over two weeks to get a refund. Staff seemed polite enough but it just didn’t seem organised. Yeah I have noticed that in the past with bursts of stag horn. Do ferts degrade when exposed to light?

Hey, so this may be a dumb question, but I have heard people say before that fertilisers should always be kept in opaque bottles as it prevents the light from affecting them. Filter suggestions for 180l

Yeah, in all fairness they were good when I dealt with them. I never got as far as a refund or anything though as eventually I just gave up on the filer due to the poor flow rate (it's sat in the shed as a spare just in case). I really hope they redesign the biomaster sometime, there are lots of...

    Filter suggestions for 180l

I also had that bubble issue sporadically. Sometimes it was fine, other times it was chucking out bubble every 10 mins for weeks. Oase also didn't know what the issue was in that instance.
  58. F

    Filter suggestions for 180l

I'm using a JBL e1902 on my 200L, lots of flow and media capacity. Biomaster 600t is also a decent choice if you want a built in heater, but the flow is a bit on the low side imo.
  59. F

    New filter - which one?

I think if Oase would make a 2000lph filter with the bio master design and a 300-500w heater they would sell a lot of them. I think it’s a good designer and has plenty of media capacity but the flow rate is just too low imo
  60. F

    New filter - which one?

On the tank end, I'm just not a fan of the friction fit style (fitting the hoses over the inlet/outlet without any clamps). I'm probably just paranoid, but after having a leak once before I will always prefer a solid feeling connection. The optional upgraded intake and outlet weren't that good...

Throwing my 2 pence into the ring. I did have that eheim filter briefly but it was damaged out of the box and wouldn't prime (the little flap snapped clean off). Apart from that it did seem like a decent filter, though I wasn't a fan of the intake and outlet (I don't use glassware myself, I...

    Options for LED T8

Thanks for the info :) I am very tempted to switch to them. I did like the lights when I was using the 1.0 version, but not being able to automate them is what led me to switch to the eheim setup (which I regret now lol). Another option I have found is the easy led system from aqualantis...

Should have included this in the OP, but I believe it was definitely triggered by lighting problems I had, the controller for the lights died and everything spiralled (warranty replacement also broke). As my lid is 2x T8 fittings I had to retrofit the LED lights and 2 are too powerful so the...

    New filter - which one?

Yeah the flow rate is night and day! While I feel the build quality and noise on the oase is better, the flow was just dire and that meant running minimal media so the water was never that clear. Yeah I had read they use larger pipes, presumably that's partly enabling the higher flow rate as it can push more water through the pipes?
