    have always used Tesco Springforce Thin Bleach 2L cost 40p soak it for 24hr in 50/50 with tap water - Rinse with tap water - then soak in 5ltr tap water and 5ml sachem prime 24hr. works for me.

    I have always used ema plastic weld, its really runny so capillary action will spread throughout the crack after a few seconds it will slightly melt and fuse the crack sets in about 2 min. doesn't leave any residue.

    have you tried a closed loop mate. i.e something like an Eheim 1048. you could either tap into your current filter or have a separate inflow. on the outflow of the eheim 1048 pump could go into the aqua medic 1000 reactor.
