Wow your obviously better than me at this internet thing I couldn't find it anywhere I looked at about 10 websites. Tha you for that John. I put the LEDs in yesterday and boy the plants are literally up almost illuminated. I know pearling only happens with co2 but my valis I've had in there for...

Yeah don't get to technical I'm a simpleton haha. The t8s I took out 30 watts each they was fluval aqua glo 90cm I don't have the box anymore for any additional info and I can't find any fine details online. They are dimmable so I'll just have to give it a while and go from there. I was...

    Par

I've replaced my two t8 fluorescent tubes to two t8 LEDs . The LEDs say the par is 167 at 20cm. If the LEDs are around 50cm above the substrate level would the par drop off alot? There is two of them so they should be ok for a low tech?

Anyone have experience with these super fish retro conversion t8 to led lights?

I have a fluval roma 200 with the twin t8 unit, I've got the fluval superglo t8s in the unit. It's a low tech tank with crypts, fern and sessiflora. I've had hygrophila in the past but it withered away even with dosing ferts. The sessiflora is leggy and the crypts have next to None growth. The...

    Later in the week

Hi Josh, I have a very small ripple for surface agitation after water change but I do run a surface skimmer too so that in affect will/should increase the aggitation. I will keep an eye onit and yes I do seem to have a slight stability problem as in lights on oh is 7.36 and co2 off is 7.16 so a...

    Later in the week

Is it just me or does anyone else find that after a water change and upto about the 3rd day after the pH drop from injecting co2 happens quicker, maybe because the co2 present in the tap water? CO2 used Database -needs your data

I see alot of people's tanks here with a pre light co2 period of 3hrs, co2 period and photoeriod of 8 hrs so are your tanks doing the last 3 hour stretch of photoeriod without co2 injected and just using up what's left in the water column? I know plants need co2 most at lights on and it tapers...

Intank to inline JBL 19/25 bubble rate

So I done maintanence earlier today and glued the two seals to the ceramic and I can report it has been a succes especially that the inline has only been running 24hrs. Hmm ok what glue did you use? Its maintanence day so I maswell do it all in one, gorilla glue?

Intank to inline JBL 19/25 bubble rate

Oh really, is it the JBL proflora? That's exactly how mine is behaving like my old intank diffuser, I'll give it more time before I start adding washers and doing modifications.
  19. C

Intank to inline JBL 19/25 bubble rate

Was both your rubber seals on each end loose? Mine are attached in the housing both ends you just need to line the ceramic up and tighten? I've just overly tightened see if that makes a difference.

Intank to inline JBL 19/25 bubble rate

Ok I understand what your saying that's great info. Intank to inline JBL 19/25 bubble rate

Thanks for the reply, I can't see any leaks and I'm not getting any bigger bubbles than I would with the intank diffuser so I'm guessing its ok. So the inline is obviously using more co2 to get to the same saturation being the ceramic having a higher surface area?

Intank to inline JBL 19/25 bubble rate

    Magnesium in tap water

Haha @Zeus. Well we cannot go against our feriors in this hobby but..... Since I've added more mg+k and adjusted to this ratio everything seems better or is it just I simply wasn't adding enough to satisfy my plants demands through means of light and CO2? since we only have hobby grade test kits...

    Magnesium in tap water

I think we are on the right tracks but we do not need to over complicate things we arnt building space ships for NASA. The ratios obviously matter because of probability of any given ion crossing over a leaf so we need to correct/balance that aspect but with ratios being close enough I think the...
  32. C

    Magnesium in tap water

@zeus I understand what you are implying about needing to add more calcium if we raise our no3,po4 etc but of we use Clive's ei mix then its its maximum our tank should ever need? Our plants need so little of CA that if the ratios were to favour npk then would it really matter as We are trying...
  33. C

    Magnesium in tap water

I think I'll have a read of that to zeus at present I'm trying the CA,mg,k ratio with Clive's ei mix method on top which no matter how much light is sufficient we will not have a defiency. My plants look greener ,andcrisp and fresh also one of my plants have began to grow again which was dorment...

    Magnesium in tap water

@Zeus. So we have our ca/mg ratio sorted bye adding the mg sulphate after water change to make a 3:1 ratio but the pottasium is not at mg-k 1: 0.75 ratio so are we adding the k at water change also achieve a 3:1:0.75 CA/mg/k ratio to create our baseline and nutrient taxi service then adding...
  35. C

    Magnesium in tap water

Wow all this maths is way above my punching level, I'm getting a head ache lol. So at present my ca is 121.5, I've added mg to make 40ppm = 3:1 and my k at the end of a full dosing week would be 30ppm. So I have a ratio of CA/mg/k 4:1:1.3 is my maths really that bad lol?
  36. C

    Magnesium in tap water

No problem jpc That's a cool thread thanks, so from what thumper was saying if he has more magnesium than pottasium his plants would do ok but opposite way around then he would get problems and it all comes back to these ratio's. Hopefully we have some luck. Cheers
  37. C

    Magnesium in tap water

Because I was getting lots and lots of holes in older leafs, I had a mass of leafs dropping, growing stopped and plants were pale. I read up on the ratios and dosed accordingly. I checked my fertilising regime and found that in my mixes I was only adding 15ppm of pottasium per week and it should...
  38. C

    Iron Dosing

I've honestly never seen that before this is new to me I think you need someone more experienced in chemistry than I. when you dose the aquarium reactions may occur and besides doing all in one like this means more expense buying pottasium sorbate etc.
  39. C

    Iron Dosing

The ascorbic acid reduces the pH to protect the ferts from precipitating and going mouldy I think. Po4 and Fe will react with one another regardless that's why we dose them on different days macro then micro, waters pH determines what source of FE you will need and it precipitates if it exceeds...
  40. C

    Magnesium in tap water

Its also worth considering that K is a hierarchy to magnesium, iron etc so my plant symptoms was probably a mixture of many as they probably was not using inferior nutrients and as @dw1305 stated with a high CA content the next taxi will probably be a CA ion and my ratios was all over the place.
  41. C

    Magnesium in tap water

I also discovered that my EI mix method that comes with Aquariam plant food UK salts has a a guide of adding... 500ml water 4 TSP kno3 1 TSP kh2po4 6 TSP of mg. 43. C

    Magnesium in tap water

@Zeus. This is what I'm trying to get a verdict on but also the CA/ mg/ K relationship and if the ratios are indeed important to counter the high CA. My tap water has 121.5mg/l CA and 8mg/l MG and the 3:1 ratio I've had to add 8tsp of MGSO4 to a 125ltr tank? MG has no I'll affects on livestock...

Well its the first week of trying the 4:1 ratio so I shall let you know how it goes. I've had to add extra K2SO4 as my hygrohila Compacta is showing sighns of defiency and I don't want to add k in the form of kNO3 as I have enough nitrate ( 20ppm per week). I will report back and let you know...

    Magnesium in tap water

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have been reading about the calcium, magnesium ratio and all info points towards a 4:1 - 3:1 calcium - magnesium ratio. Other source's say it doesn't matter about ratios? I have hard as nails water @Zeus. We share the lovely Yorkshire water. My calcium is...

    Don't know what defiency

That's very Interesting, I mean I dose Fe EDDHA because of my hard water, po4 is obviously in the macro which reacts with iron. Both MN and ZN are in my micro mix ( aquariam plant food UK macro and micro EI salts ) I've tried dosing double macro but as pointed out earlier bye @Witcher ratios...
  47. C

    Don't know what defiency

Yes I'll see how it goes, I ordered the k2so4 for that exact purpose, reverting back to my hard as nails tap water I don't need any more carbonate hardness. Hoping its just the k that's defiecient and blocking other nutrient uptake. Thanks for your help.
  48. C

    Don't know what defiency

I've ordered some k2so4 to add to my macro mix. Obviously adding more kno3 and kh2po4 to gain extra k is knocking it out of balance and constantly increasing the need for more k a never ending cycle. I'll see how it goes, cheers
  49. C

    Don't know what defiency

These defiencies was happening way before I stopped using RO water and pH with co2 was well bellow 7 so EDTA was ok to use. Now I add some EDDHA to my micro mix which is well within pH range. So going on ratios to me it does look like a k defiency? ( holes ) so like you stated before add some...
  50. C

    Don't know what defiency

  51. C

    Don't know what defiency

Well I was using RO 3/4 to 1/4 tap water. I have very hard water ( Yorkshire water ) but I stopped that last week and now use just tap. This problem was happening long before I stopped using RO. I don't have any snails of fish that eat plants, holes are outlined with brown and yellow
  52. C

    Don't know what defiency

I've cranked up the carbon so the drop checker is basically yellow ( no harm to livestock ) as far as I've read from Tom Barr ratios do not matter only when po4 is hight than nitrate? Magnesium I add half a tea spoon on macro day so shouldn't me magnesium although before I took out the 53b it...

    CO2 stability during photoperiod?

I'm having the same issue, my pH is at around 7.5/7.4 at lights on and at the end it's about 7.2/7.1 just wondering how you keep it at a certain level. I'm guessing it's the equilibrium of surface movement Vs injection so it's finding correct level of these + lighting levels.

    Par

Is a par rating of about 40 at substrate level good enough for plants and what types?
  85. C

    Oh not going below 7.2

So I've turnt the gas up, I'm more towards my target of 7ph but the drop checker is yellow.... But the fish are not gasping so I assume that my surface movement and I've just installed a surface skimmer should be oxygenating the water at the same time?
  86. C

    Oh not going below 7.2

As does hard water use more CO2 compared to the same [CO2] as soft water it feels like it does but the experts says it makes little to no difference as Ed says My LFS uses 3/4 RO to 1/4 hard tap water and he has about 2 bubbles per second everything cushty so either hard water has a drastic...
