Apologies, perhaps I should have specified dimensions rather than volume. My tank is 45 gallons but is only 600mm long and 450 back to front. If I recall correctly it's recommended that Rummynoses need longer tanks because they are happier if they have lot's of room to swim.

I've never tried Cardinals with a Betta but they'd probably do fine. I mentioned Harlequins because I've kept them with Betta's before with no problems.

What size is the tank? Rummynoses need a fair amount of swimming room.

6-8 Harlequins would fit the bill nicely.

I live way past the of back beyond, there's a good shop for fish a 15 mile drive away but plants and equipment have to be ordered online.

I keep a Betta in an Aqua One Aquanano 40, rear filter compartment has an adjustable flow return pump, which is why a chose it. Comes in a few different sizes 30, 40 , 60 that's cm not litres. The 40 is around 55 litres. Comes with a glass lid which I do use as I've had Betta's jump before.

I've used Aquaticstoyourdoor for Marines before, fish were good quality well packaged and you can arrange the delivery date. I wonder though if deliveries of non-essential items will be allowed at the present time.

Generally if you are going to run co2 most will do it from the start. Personally I went with an aquarium specific kit, it will have everything you need, bubble counter, co2 resistant pipe, diffuser etc.

I put some Purigen in my external filter to strip tannins from my water when I started up my tank. I'm now wanting to add Easy-life Catappa-x, will I need to remove the Purigen from my filter?
