    Showroom Update

5 hours each way for me but I'm going to have to do it sometime, would be worthwhile just to see the tanks "in the flesh" so to speak.

    Crackling solenoid...fault?

The electrical connections inside the plug sometimes come loose or if they're soldered, a dry joint. The plugs with care can be taken apart to check, remember to unplug the PSU from the mains. Also possible that the PSU could be on it's way out, if you have a volt meter you can see if it's...

Betta Tank mates for larger tank

    First ever scape

Apologies, perhaps I should have specified dimensions rather than volume. My tank is 45 gallons but is only 600mm long and 450 back to front. If I recall correctly it's recommended that Rummynoses need longer tanks because they are happier if they have lot's of room to swim.

Betta Tank mates for larger tank

I've never tried Cardinals with a Betta but they'd probably do fine. I mentioned Harlequins because I've kept them with Betta's before with no problems.

    First ever scape

What size is the tank? Rummynoses need a fair amount of swimming room.

6-8 Harlequins would fit the bill nicely.

    Which tank for a Betta?

I keep a Betta in an Aqua One Aquanano 40, rear filter compartment has an adjustable flow return pump, which is why a chose it. Comes in a few different sizes 30, 40 , 60 that's cm not litres. The 40 is around 55 litres. Comes with a glass lid which I do use as I've had Betta's jump before.

Buying Fish & Critters Online ?

I've used Aquaticstoyourdoor for Marines before, fish were good quality well packaged and you can arrange the delivery date. I wonder though if deliveries of non-essential items will be allowed at the present time.

    Co2 regulator

Have your timer set so that the co2 comes on 2-3 hours before your tank lights and off 1 hour before the lights. Use a drop checker in the tank, ideally you want the drop checkers colour to be lime green when the lights come on and stay that way throughout your lighting period. It will probably...

    Advice on new CO2 system

Generally if you are going to run co2 most will do it from the start. Personally I went with an aquarium specific kit, it will have everything you need, bubble counter, co2 resistant pipe, diffuser etc.

    Time to get busy

This is a picture of part of the rear sump compartment of my tank. Under the sponge on the right of the picture is the return pump. My thought here is if I put the in tank CO2 diffuser close to the intake of the pump it will act sort of like an inline diffuser. What are peoples thoughts on this...

    Time to get busy

The way the photo was taken did make the heights at the back look a lot closer together but saying that I have adjusted the height. I have gravel to add detail around the pillars, I was going to fill the narrower gaps which are shaded with this. For a planting plan I was thinking a carpet of...

    Time to get busy

Ok, I've been tinkering with it for a few days now and have finally got something I'm happy with. Tank is 600L x 450D x 550H with a rear sump compartment. Light is an AI Hydra HD26. Filtration, there's a couple of net bags with about 3 litres of Siporax in the sump compartment, also running...

Millions £, and Billions £, in perspective maybe

Bad back and carrying 25L contaners-Options?

Carpet or wooden floor? I've seen people using large plastic water containers on trolleys with castors on. Wheel up to aquarium and use a pump to fill.

    PHEW!

All my tanks lights come on at 2pm, quick inspection, hmm something amiss. My Betta is usually at the front of his tank looking for food at lights on, can't see him anywhere, leaning over the tank to see if he's hiding in the stems at the back but no somehow he's managed to get himself sucked...

    Feedback Above and Beyond

Astonishing customer service. I want to do an Iwagumi in my tank but it is taller than it is deep so I have some pretty specific requirements. There being no decent aquascaping shop close I phoned AG and spoke to Steve, he offered to build a scape in their scaping area and send me photos. A...

    Catappa-x and Purigen

I put some Purigen in my external filter to strip tannins from my water when I started up my tank. I'm now wanting to add Easy-life Catappa-x, will I need to remove the Purigen from my filter?

    Hello from Cumbria

I kept marines for about 10-12 years, not sure why I lost my interest for marines it just didn't seem to grip as much as it used to. It's not the cost I'd say the cost of reefkeeping and aquascaping/planted tanks is comparable as is the maintenance. A change is as good as a rest? Thanks for the...

Thanks for the replies. I used Tropica Aquarium Soil (about 20 litres), photoperiod is 8hrs ramping up and down for 1hr.
