Looking great!. Adding botanicals would definitely be a nice touch, would suit it perfect.

I also agree. Really well laid out

    Stream Biotope

Natural goes out the window when you start putting things in a glass box. Your never going to exactly get a perfect biotope as it's impossible, you can just do your best to replicate it. It won't contain any plants because the eco system it's based on doesn't contain any I'm assuming. Yes...

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

Always the way, have a great idea but when getting round to do it, it's finding the time, but your approaching it the best way with putting it together bit by bit, will definitely be worth it and people will benefit from it.

    Assassin snails

I have nerite snails in my main tank with assassin snails and I've never seen the assassins bother them

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

Will be looking forward to when you get this thread started. Everyone who uses botanicals could add to it with there experience with what they have used in regards to how they effect PH, colour of tint it causes in the water and also if they have gone from not using botanicals to using them and...

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

Definitely agree with this, I only started using botanicals this year and they have completely changed my outlook on how I set a tank up now. Leaf litter especially, watching the fish go in and out of it hunting is great to watch, feel like it influences there behaviour too.
  10. Paul27

    Blackwater Nano (experiment)

I do agree, when attached to twigs they do look great. I do like your idea of this tank being experimental and learning along the way.
  11. Paul27

    Blackwater Nano (experiment)

Alder cones are extremely good for tanning the water, they maybe small but pack a punch. How dark are you looking to go?.
  12. Paul27

    Unwanted infestation

When your literally infested with snails, it can look awful but as long as there controlled there are benefits to them. At one point my tank was literally swarming with them to a point that I brought a snail trap. But never ended up using it as I brought a group of assassin snails and within a...

  16. Paul27

    The Wild

I know the rescape will not be to everybody's taste. But This time I wanted to try something abit different, with lots more leaf litter and botanicals. I will be over the next couple of weeks filling the back with more plants, so it becomes abit of a jungle and keep the front pretty open.
  17. Paul27

    The Wild

Gutted to be fair. They did breed and he was holding eggs, but at some point he became ill and must have dropped them due to it. They are really interesting fish to watch, colours on the male in person was stunning.
  18. Paul27

    The Wild

UPDATE TIME: I decided it was time for a rescape, whole tank got taken over by staghorn algae and not one plant could be saved as all of them were covered. My own fault though, felt like it was just never ending, got fed up with it in the end and decided it needed changing. Thought i would...

It would suit perfect the setup I want to go for. Because I'm going more Hardscape focused this time, Ill be happy as long as it's surviving and looking healthy . I'm really debating whether I want to run Co2 with this one as I was also planning on it being low light. @Zeus. how did you find...

    Air pump

I'm looking for a air pump that can run multiple air driven filters, does anyone have any recommendations for any decent ones that are pretty quiet?. It's only going to be used for three tanks, one that is 17litres and a 60 litre tank that is split in two

  27. Paul27

    First attempt -Ciano 58 litre

You just need to be patient, Cryptocoryne, Java fern, Anubias are slow growers and take time. In my personal experience Amazon swords until they get a good root structure don't really do much. Agree with @PARAGUAY above about water changes and cleaning as much algae off as possible. Don't worry...

    The Wild

I have had more arrive today, they are currently being soaked before going in the tank. So more will be added over the next few days.
  29. Paul27

    The Wild

Bit of an update. I added leaf litter the week before last and have taken out the Buddha Nut and the Casuarina cones because as much as I liked the Buddha nut I felt it was abit out of place. Also removed a piece of lava rock on the right hand side at the back as the Amazon sword was pretty much...

Fluval Flex 34 Litre Betta Tank With Anubias

Just be careful with the corners as there are extremely fragile which I found out. It just has root tabs and both plants are doing well.

Fluval Flex 34 Litre Betta Tank With Anubias

I have the exact same tank in my kitchen. It's been re scaped a few times but when I had Anubias in there it flourished and Java fern too aswell as Bucephalandra, that even flowered. That was with a 6 hour photo period. The tank as it is now has vallisneria in which has sent runners out and...

    The Wild

Thankyou The botanicals that are in there are: Buddha Nut Casuarina cones Trombeta pods Chapeuzinhos pods Alder cones The Casuarina cones are the more spiky ones and the alder cones are smoother.

I do like the Nannostomus marginatus, stay small too. I think the Nannostomus eques would look pretty cool too, they do grow a little bigger though.

    The Wild

Perfectly happy to send them to you when I round them up, I'll be keeping the two big ramshorn snails that are in there but your welcome to the rest. They will be ramshorn and tadpole snails. The Wild

Im new to the botanical side of things, so trying to experiment with things at the moment, I'll be trying some leaf litter at some point. Wow that is quite some selection at that shop, loads of botanicals too. Am I right in saying you did a video with George Farmer?

I understand that as it's a big tank to take apart and with having to move things around. Bet you will be glad when everything is sorted and the 900 is in place.
  47. Paul27

    Re-education.....

I don't blame you wanting to!. I'll be looking forward to the 900 your planning, please don't keep us waiting too long!. 🤩

    2nd Aquascape

Very nice. What type of rock is that?
  51. Paul27

    Sexing kribensis ?

@Hufsa and @sparkyweasel are right. Easy to tell apart male will have a pointed dorsal fin and anal fin. Females are rounded. Very easy to breed fascinating how the fry follow the male and female around. In my personal opinion a underrated fish.

Volcano mineral out of stock everywhere in uk?

I'm no expert when it comes to substrate or aquascaping but I think your massively over thinking it. You could get some plastic mesh bags and get some cheap gravel and put that in there to bank the substrate up if you dont use crushed lava rock. Then use tropica soil on top and that would be it.
  70. Paul27

    Olympus is Calling.

I'm going to take a guess that your favourite position to sit on your sofa is the left hand side (facing the tv). Its a beautiful tank and something you should be proud of with what you have accomplished with it.

    Oase 125 not sitting flat

I had an email back yesterday afternoon saying that something should be sorted out for me today. I haven't filled the tank or put anything in there. So is completely empty. Oase 125 not sitting flat

    Oase 125 not sitting flat

Hi Received my oase 125 today. I've set it up but have accounted a problem it doesn't sit flat on the stand. There is a gap in the middle where it sits on the stand. The one corner of the stand does not line up. Frustrated now and wondering what to do.

I was actually going to use the bogwood in two sperate positions but when i was having a mess around with it, both pieces slotted into place pretty much perfect and noticed like yourself they it had characteristics of a dragon. As much as i like how it is, i couldn't quite get the actual...

    The Custom Alcove Aquarium

How it looks after planting. Will be getting some hygrophila siamensis 53B for behind the lava rocks. There is some algae on the anubias as there from my other tank. I Should have done a better job of removing it to be honest.
  89. Paul27

    Could this be an issue?

Spirit level is on top off the rim of the glass. Floor is uneven which caused me abit of an issue, ended up have to shim each leg with flat shims.

Hi Having filled my tank today i thought I would re check how level it was now it is full. The following pictures show what the outcome is. First pictures is right hand side, second is left hand side both uneven same way front to back. Third picture front length . Fourth is back length. Tank...
