Well my tank cycled nice and quickly and I got some yesterday. They are wonderful! I fed them bloodworm this morning and they ventured out from their hidey-holes to feed, and since then they've been investigating almost non-stop. I love how inquisitive they are and I keep seeing more colours...

Will do! The ones in the shop - there were loads! - were quite inquisitive and seemed totally comfortable with me standing gawking at them. My OH wasn't too impressed by them - I did tell him they'll colour up. He said they'd look better when they grew...... I didn't reply :lol:

I do understand that. What I meant was - if my not-densely-planted plants are using up any ammonia being produced by rotting food and whatever cr*p was in the old substrate, then how come in a densely planted tank with just a couple of fish as an ammonia source is there enough ammonia left over...

Although if you do treat with meds take care that whatever treatment you use is suitable for your inverts

So the tank won't cycle because I have plants and not enough ammonia? So I can remove the plants to do a proper fishless cycle, or up the ammonia Why does a silent cycle work then? If there's so many plants how can a few fish produce anough ammonia? Do fish just produce a lot of ammonia?
