I mean that the problem is with white fly in asian plant farms, we can still order any plant from europe but they are 5 times the price, they'r nice but when retail is £6 for a A.Barterii in a pot it limits sales.

Asian plant market white fly restrictions

Hi all, does any one know the current state of the asian plant market in terms of the white fly outbreak? Over the last 2 years more and more species have been removed from our import list, it started with Echinodorus and now its a struggle to get a decent order together. The situation is...

    riccia query - pics included

Hi, i could do with some opinions on this riccia, as you can see i have used net to tie down the riccia to a few of the stones/wood and thread to tie the others. The thread technique was planted 3 weeks ago and it looks ok but the net technique was planted 1 week ago but it doesn't look too...

My 625Ltr planted tank 6 foot

Very nice, your fish will be as happy as larry in there! I do like the jungle look although i'm simplifying my scapes now as there is just too much work on them, the pruning must be a nightmare in there. Considering you'v put so much effort into it and made it look so nice i'm suprised you've...

Need to get some good hardscape wood/roots - advice

Rocks are no problem, when your next in the country just head up to the nearest fell or moor and you'll be spoilt for choice. For wood a very cheap alternative to redmoor root is sumatra wood, its the same kind of shapes but has a deeper browny/red look to it, you can find it on ebay, very good...

    Where Did You Start?

I've kept fish since i was a little boy, my first was Billy, i won him at the local gala when i was 7, tough old Billy lived in a washing up bowl for a week in standard tap water (i was of course clueless), my dad finally agreed to buying a tank (the other option was Billy been flushed down the...

    Oxygen in a planted tank.

Mr Amano is correct but unfortunately there are few like him that have all day and all night to maintain our tanks, because of my unpredictable schedule all my tanks constantly have a koralia pump and lily pipe at the water surface with the koralia turned upwards to create a constant wave, this...

    Very neglected tank...

Yeh i know what you mean, all the hard work, the hours, the precision, blood, sweat, (no tears as yet, very close though:) and then it all gets ruined. I hope you have better luck than me in getting rid of the algae, i would recommend you use easy carbo or excel, it does seem to act as a light...

Thanks Ed, I rescaped my little low-tech 60L on Sunday with the rocks in question so time will tell i guess.

    Stone test?

A quick question for Ed, i am about to start a new scape with some local rock, its from Wensleydale so it has a high limestone content, i've run a few tests and everything seems fine. I would however like to know some more on these metalic lines you mentioned, there are darker patches and lines...

    Very neglected tank...

Hi, By the sounds of things me and you are have been in the same boat. I went the Dennerle root for my CO2 system, little did i know that Dennerle regulators only fit Dennerle CO2 canisters - sneaky buggers! These are quite hard to get hold of, i finally found them on zoo plus but they don't...

    Limestone rock, is it safe?

I'm more worried about the larger fluctuations in PH, at the moment it is ranging from 6.5 - 7.4 due to the CO2, but with limestone i'm presuming the fluctuations will be more like 6.5 - 8, this is a big difference.

    Limestone rock, is it safe?

bump, could do with some more info on this if anyone has any as my re-scape is only a few weeks away, i'm not too keen on spending £100 + on landscape rock.

yeh i could do that but again i will lose a lot of the fine beneficial substrate. oh i dunno.........

    Limestone rock, is it safe?

thanks fella's, i was aware that calcium carbonate in the limestone rock would raise ph and hardness however it shouldn't go above 8 which is generally fine and i presume this change would happen slowly so the decrease caused by co2 shouldn't be too bad, its more the fish i'm worried about as...

    Black Hair Algae

Thanks for all the input, i might get some excel, but i'm just about settled on a re-scape (i'm fed up of looking at the same design) so they can all go in the bin, that should do the trick

    Limestone rock, is it safe?

Hi, for my upcoming re-scape i would like to use local rock, i'm from Wensleydale in the yorkshire dales so up on the fells there is a fantastic selection of beautiful limestone rock, is limestone rock safe to use in aquariums for both plants and fish?

    Black Hair Algae

mmm, never heard that before and its about time i re-scaped so i might give it a miss, my next scape will be very simple, mainly riccia or java moss and maybe some hairgrass or blyxa japonica so this won't cost to much. Thanks for your advice though nick. If theres any other ideas on getting...

    vacuming Eco Complete

i'm taking it all out but it will need to be relatively dirt free because my next scape wont have many rooted plants so i don't want the current dirt to fester and pollute the water, the problem is that there is a lot of powder and fine stones in EcoComplete that are beneficial so i can't even...

    Black Hair Algae

I have never previously had major problems with algae but for the last 6 weeks i have had major problem with my pressurized CO2 setup, it has been sorted now (thank god!) but the low and irregular levels over the 6 weeks has reeked havoc, plant growth has drastically reduced and despite less...

    vacuming Eco Complete

Hi all, i'm stripping my aquascape and starting again, it has been setup for 6 months, i have never cleaned the substrate (Carribsea EcoComplete) as my tank was 100% planted, however it is a bit of a mess so i tried to vacume it a little bit only to find that because it is so light that it just...
