I've finally stepped up from my old 60l into a Juwel Rekord 120 I've had sat in the garage for a year. Basically, I transferred what was left of the 60l into the 120l. Slapdash is the name as there's no real thought or aquascaping, just want a natural looking and relatively carefree tank. So...

I'd prefer to have a hood TBH, I've done the open topped aquarium thing. Hagen will replace it, but I need my proof of purchase, which I can't find. Looks like I need to fix this somehow.

I can wait, don't know how the fish/plants will cope with only daylight mind! 11w is a big drop down from 15 in the 60 though.

There's nothing to see. Just a slot for a T8 bulb, and a flap. Everything is hidden in sealed plastic.

Can only find them for the Juwel and it's still not that cheap.

LFS says Hagen don't list them as a stock item. Rang Hagen, got fobbed off to a bloody answer phone, told to press a number to return to the operator, did that and it hung up. What a crock of blahblahblahblah.

They list everything bar the lid on their site. Don't know what to do about lighting the tank either for the next X days it takes to sort. I've no spare unit, no lamps or anything like that.

It's broke again. I can't see a starter to replace, plus the unit is all sealed. New unit time?

I've fixed it.

Bulb was flickering, so tried a new bulb. Nothing. Old bulb in, nothing again, no light, no buzzing, nothing. I can't see a starter, and the whole unit is sealed. I can't find a replacement hood unit on their site, so do they even do them? This is quite an issue, as my tank now has no lighting.

Bare with me on this one before laughing. My sister's goldfish died recently, and I'd only just bought it a new tub of food. It seems a waste to just bin it (she doesn't want another fish), so would the tropicals be fine to eat it alongside their usual foodstuffs?

Today's the first day of using the KNO3 solution I made up. Used 50g of a 900g bag, I think that'll last a long time!

It's easier to remember for me to dose 5ml of solution as it's the same figure I use for the TPN :)

Not according to that calculator, 5ml of a 50g into 500ml solution, in 60 litres of water makes the correct PPM.

Right, so for my 60l tank If I add 50g of Potassium Nitrate to 500ml of Water I will get 5ppm of Nitrate and 3ppm of Potassium, per 5ml of dose. How often should I dose that, twice weekly on top of a twice weekly dose of TPN+? Is it worth trying the Liquid Co2 again as well?

How would I know I'm getting *ppm of each? Is there a long winded equation or something?

I don't think that's wise, far too many fry in there to start dropping water changes right down. Plus it might kill the Otos off. That tank's been grown a good 6 months, now it's a really recent issue at this scale.

Weekly change of 10-12litres in a 60l so around a 20% change at most. I do have some liquid CO2, but I never saw any growth improvements with that before. TPN+ doesn't contain Potassium does it?

Just noticed a lot of the plants are yellowing and the leaves are holing. There's always been a few leaves doing it, but never to this extent. All I dose is Tropica Plant Nutrition+ Weekly as per the bottle, low light (1wpg), No CO2. Any ideas?

All I know about the Cichlids is they are Malawis. Not sure how big the lobster is/was lol.

As per title really. There's a kid at work who tells me so much BS it's unreal, so I don't know when he speaketh the truth. He reckons he bought a blue lobster, and within a few days his Cichlids had eaten it. Plausible?

Tank as it is now, will need a trim with this week's water change... Sorry about the image quality, photobucket sucks. Down to 2 adult mollies and 1 adult guppy now. They haven't lasted me that long, I had the water tested and it was fine, so they must have been old or a crap stock of fish...

Well it makes a good finish on smooth metal, and the surface of MDF is fairly smooth so all should be well. Will cost a fortune all that spraypaint mind lol.

Can you not plumb both outlet into one long spray bar using a Y connector?

I don't see why it would stress the pumps anymore, although with twice the volume of water trying to get in there, the pressure of water leaving the spraybar will increase. You could combat this by using larger bore spraybar/hosing/bigger holes in the spray bar.

I've recently acquired myself a Rekord 120, to merge both the 60 and 40 Litre fishtanks into. It came with a cheap metal stand, that there is no way I'm using on laminate flooring. The cross section of the feet is so small that with 120-150kg on it, it would punch straight through the flooring...

I ended up stretching the budget and getting the EX1200, seems a lovely piece of kit. Can't wait to get the tank stand built, tank set up and running to see what it's like.

Right. I've got a Rekord 120 now. I have one recommendation, the Aqua One Aquis 1200. I know I'm looking for around 1200lph, anybody got any more recommendations close to the budget? (can be new or 2nd hand)

Cheers Nick. The tank I've been offered still has the internal filter/heater, the silicone has been removed for easy cleaning though. TBH I think I'll go external anyway, was just interested how good this filter is. Can always flog it along and get a bit of money back.

Read a few differing articles about these. My LFS has some, and so does a friend at work. My friend says his isn't aggressive, and just prunes the odd plant now and again whilst sitting on top of the filter. But I've read they destroy planted tanks and are aggressive to long finned and small...

WHAT! Takes me about 45 minutes at most in the 60cm for a 50% water change and a trim up. I'm going to be staying low light/ferts and maybe liquid CO2 with this, and it's a fairly steady growing tank bar the wisteria.

3 foot isn't much of a difference from my 2ft 60L though. I really would like to double the 60L in size as I plan to scrap the 60 & 40L altogether. Plus a 4 foot would fit just nicely where my 60L is lol.

Not updated this for a few weeks... The tank had started to grow pretty wildly now I'm using TPN+ for ferts, so I trimmed out around 2/3rds of it. Mostly Wisteria & the other stem (still don't know exactly what it is). Moss is really taking hold of the rocks, Java fern is still slow as ever...

Good attempts for your first shots. I would up the ISO (film speed) to allow faster shutter speeds when shooting the fish to help define them a bit more.

Yeah I noticed the slight bow to the fence. Never had that problem myself.

It's due to the alignment of the images. It usually does that, then you just need to trim it up using crop and get it looking neat.

Just noticed a tiny bit of white fungal growth on it today. LFS is shut, so have put some aquarium salt in, and will get some treatment tomorrow.

One of my Mollies has recently started swimming along the water surface and splashing the water out with it's tail fin. It's really quite random. Just the Molly playing around? I can't see any signs of disease on it.

Ooo this is interesting. Will keep an eye on this.
