    Angelfish and discus together

The fact you are marine knowledge trumps alot of what freshwater keeping can be. Its being on top of things and resetting etc. Then the solution to that is, see if the fish shop you are purchasing from are happy to take back some fish for credit note if that becomes the problem. With me its...

    Angelfish and discus together

They do. I mean my 350 is 60+ cm height inclusive of substrate and about 120cm length ways. I do get some aggression when they pair up, but they lay and the eggs get eaten as the tank isnt suitable for a breeding set up. I chose it this way and filled in with rainbow emperors so when the angels...

    Angelfish and discus together

I have kept angels and discus in the past in various tank sizes. Knowing full well the size they can grow up to and understanding that they feel more at home when its a group. However I have also kept a solo large discus in a 90l tank with community fish and had no problems. Ventured to a 180l...

I have many on my rocks in my 15 year old tank. Noticed some spots under my sand substrate too. Researching more it is called Hildenbrandia Rubra.

Plant Profile Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae

That can be true. Which is why when it does send out new rooters. you nip them and give them some space in between. All I tend to do is follow the stem and snap it off by hand. So easy that way rather than sniping. But then again my tank is quite deep so I would only do that during a large water...

Plant Profile Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae

I have had both balansae, retro and also tiger variation in the past(20 years ago) Currently I had about 3 pots worth of balansae in my 350l which came from 1 pot in the kids tank. Its grown to over 30+cm long and lots of baby runners every few months which I just trim off the larger old leaves...

Something’s wrong with my clown loach

I had a bunch of clown loaches for around 8 years. The last year one of them become similar and died within a few weeks last year. And naturally the other loaches will nip and eat it up. So perhaps best to pop into another tank in dose medication. Good luck with them :)

    Enclosed ecosphere

Was a great idea when you mentioned it to me and I did say that brine shrimp dont live that long too. But I imagined that it would keep on breeding etc I think best bet is to collect water from a river or pond and then have it enclosed and that might fare better in the long run?

Old tank - can I reuse stuff or throw?

My question is does this tank need shutting down even if its been standing for 2 weeks. Im assuming that the filter was still running etc? Amano Shrimp killed

Sometimes can be bad luck. I have a 350l tank and have 6 amano and never had a death. They would only come out at night time. I would say it could be the bristlenoses which can be boisterous sometimes especially if the amano are unlucky and encroach in spaces/feeding time. How mature are the...

    Long post regarding my tank

I think thats usually a balance of too much food at one point and the population bursting and constant laying eggs everywhere, then you notice a tonne of small snails. For me its usually because my loaches get to them. But if there is no loach I reckon the culprit is the change of water...

    Long post regarding my tank

Can even use the 70l tank as a semi high tech tank by dosing more often in there and better lighting. Til you understand the relationship of light duration etc. Over time you can just use the 70l as a nursery to plant into the big tank. Thats what I do with my other small tanks at home :)

    Long post regarding my tank

Keeping fish and scaping fish tanks etc takes time. If you follow content creators we see amazing tanks being made, but what you dont see is the work behind the scenes and sometimes casualties that may occur. Be patient, let the tank settle and continue monitoring and do water changes as and...

    Long post regarding my tank

Sometimes many water changes does give an imbalance to the water and upset the fish which in term causes them stress etc. I think my take on this is to actually let the tank settle and let nature take its course. If you feel that certain fish are not surviving then yes can take it back to the...

    Puffer identification?

I also tried them and whilst they are great for controlling snails, they bickered alot due to pairing. This was over 20 years ago now. Prices have gone up alot for them and I often see them in Maidenhead aquatics. Fun if you keep them in a puffer only tank. Blood/blackworms are their...
