    shrimp dying off

Morning David, The filter I use is designed for topping up koi ponds and does remove all chlorine ect at least the test kits and my other tank would suggest so. I don't use bottle conditioner as I would need to use too much.years ago I used to use pond safe but had to change brands and the...

    7' refurbishment

so little up date :( been having a few dead shrimp over the the last month Amano and cherry. Water parameters test OK so we thought it might be the TNC carbon so stopped dosing that, started feeding a bit more, and pointed up the filter out flow to ripple the surface. We are still loosening...

Thank you Alto we are happy with it. I might add a couple more lilies and I'll follow your advice and trim that one a bit. Your right about the shrimp my small tank has just as many . Any that get sucked up at water change go back in so I think this helps them. There were only 6 to start with...

Hi alto, Ill keep removing leaves as they melt, hopefully they grow back . I have a spare mist king in the cupboard I might set that up to mist the plants while the tank fills an hour of full supervision is something I want to avoid. The glass patch is on the inside, the outside has a thin...

so filled the tank again yesterday plants looked OK (thanks Steve Aquarium Gardens). OK so you guys talked me in to it I’m going to go lighter gravel and rocks. I need to find the time to get to a landscaping place to choose what combination i will use. I was going to use black board paint on the back pane of glass as I've previously had success with this but with the colour...

Hi Divzero, I hadn't forgotten about this thread. My plan was to add a few more photos after a year., but since you asked. After a week of being full a small leak developed between the glass and the front. This is probably because I lent on it climbing in to the tank to fiddle with stuff. I...

    FX6

I'm not sure on the sizes of the pipes. i know the fx5 is a good filter so you should be really happy with the fx6.
  52. D

    FX6

just out of curiosity are you adding the fx6 to the tetra tecs, or replacing them. As long as you don't have loads of surface movement you wont need the filter return to the tank that low in the tank. but high or low wont effect the operation of the filter.
  53. D

    FX6

do you mean the filter out let. you can have it low in the tank, but you need to think about water flow. if your running an fx6 you must have a large tank, so a spray bar might suit you. how are you dissolving the co2?
  54. D

    FX6

i don't think its much different to an fx5, or works any different to other canister filter. you should be OK to put it low in the tank as long as the canister is blow the water level by a couple of 100 millimeters.
  55. D

    RO help

i get about 25l in 8 hours which is fine for my tiny tank, but if that experiment works i'll think about using RO on my disasters large tank. so I'll be interested to know how you get on if you do buy a pump. it looks relatively simple to set these things up so the shut of automatically. you...

    cant grow HC

I've pulled the sand out and replaced it with gravel. I think there was something maybe wrong with the sand. I had two little bits of HC that didn't die lets see what happens with them.
  60. D

    Non-Return Valve confusion

If you put the non return valve between the bubble counter and the diffuser water from the bubble counter will get back to the reg. Blow through the valve check you can only blow one way, make sure that's working. then check there is no water inside your regulator, solenoid, and pipes before you...

    diying a super canister fillter

never seen these over tank filters, I'll look in to that tomorrow. my other thought was co2 loss on a 7' high tec. a canister is obviously more efficient. although it can be done with a sump it adds technicality's. i was hoping for one good build than hassle free maintenance.
  72. D

    diying a super canister fillter

I did have a sump but found it a pain in the blahblahblahblah just wanted to simplify everything one fillets one pump one co2 feed.

    diying a super canister fillter

I was wondering, but probably wont build it, not any time soon anyway. if you had an fx5 with its 25mm hoses, and the pump died could you plumb a 20000 lph pump in line and get super flow out of it. using some thing like the pump in the link.it does say its usable in-line not sure how but that's...
