    New DIY Cabinets

Well I went for the larger than tank size on the small cabinet. I like to have somewhere to put things like bottle caps for example while I'm measuring out a dose. My large tank which is flush (ADA style) I find myself putting things on top of my light. So I went slightly bigger for functional...

Which Eheim compact for 260L tank?

I have a 2000 on my 200L driving inline heater, diffuser and a 2 foot spray bar. I get pretty good flow out of it on the lowest setting. I have. My filter is on another 2 foot spray bar.

    Storing 1-2-Grow Plants?

Yeah I just got 2 pots of Glosso and that was pressing against the lid when they arrived. Great stuff though, you get loads. I planted mine the same day they arrived so cant really say how long they could have stayed in the pot. Will defiantly use the 1-2 grow stuff again :)

What the heck is up with my Gouramis?!

Yeah it is a real shame, the 2 I had were real characters when they were healthy. Always getting stuck in when I had my arm in the tank doing maintenance almost like they were trying to help out, just not doing a very good job at it and getting in the way more than anything. I felt terrible when...

What the heck is up with my Gouramis?!

Are they dwarf honey gouramis? If the are you may want to look into Dwarf Gourami Iridovirus (DGIV). Abdominal swelling is one of the symptoms and is very common in dwarf gourami and always fatal and if one has it chances are they all do. I lost 2 dwarf honeys last year to it.

    New DIY Cabinets

Thanks. I made a smaller one with sliding doors for my old tank and it's still going strong 3 years later. I think as long as its sealed properly with several coats of eggshell or gloss paint then there shouldn't be any issues with water penetration ;)

    Richard's 200L (Planted)

Hmmm, the more I look at it, I'm not happy with the semi transparent antistatic background. It's applied by spraying the surface with water then smoothing out the film on the wet surface. It looked great when first applied but as it has dried out over time it has gone blotchy (see left side of...

Advice on Moving Filter & Fish to New Tank

Re: Advice on Moving Filter & Fish to New Tank Yeah my old tank is 120L and I'm moving up to 200L I'll use as much water as I can. DIY Project DIY Lighting Rig (new photos added)

Yeah that was my original plan but after unscrewing the Arcadia controller it was a completely sealed unit inside the plastic box to make it water proof so I would have had to cut the power cables and re-join them. Which I didn't really want to do.

DIY Project DIY Lighting Rig (new photos added)

Well... if I cant see it  I did think of drilling another small hole just behind the connection, running the excess cable through it and then coiling it underneath the box. Maybe I could find a stainless steel grommet for the hole. Would probably look quite nice. I know it's impresive...

Yes but link you posted suggested stunning, beheading and then pithing all of which takes time. Which which is different from going straight to a bolt in the brain. Sick Gourami - Help!

The use of clove oil for anaesthesia has been well documented actually http://dels-old.nas.edu/ilar_n/ilarjour ... eiffer.pdf Page 12 describes it quite well as just one example. Probably true but would you put your dog to sleep or behead it?

    Sick Gourami - Help!

Wait, so your saying putting them gently to sleep with oil of clove isn't humane? But subjecting them to the time it takes to get them out of the water and holding them long enough to stab them in the head and swirl it around is humane? That page says it is humane, but it's not the only way...

    Switching Ferts

  56. spill50

    Switching Ferts

Heh, read that page a couple of times now and didn't notice the line above the recipe. So anyway, if I've got it right now it will just be a case of mixing the amounts in number 3 and dosing 20ml a day. Simple as that?

    Sick Gourami - Help!

Sorry to hear about your gourami, never nice loosing a fish. On the euthanasia thing I find oil of clove is pretty good (well, as good as these things can get) a small amount puts them to sleep pretty quick. You can pick up small bottles of it from holland and barrat. Good for tooth ache as...

putting equipment "inline" - what's advisable? Several months ago I had a green water outbreak so invested in a cheap inline 11w UV. Peristaltic Pump Dosing?

Yeah, I'm talking about the other end. So you've got your power cable going into the box, what happens then? Live and neutral wires soldered to connection points on the motor?
  73. spill50

    Peristaltic Pump Dosing?

Sorry if I'm being dim, so you just wire up the mains cable straight to the motor? No circuit required in between? I'm doing everything else DIY on my new tank so why stop with a pump ;P
  74. spill50

    PAR meter

Hmmm it's interesting, I don't have a dedicated par meter but I do have a seneye reef which measures kelvin, lux and par. Not used it yet but may do some measurements tonight see what I get. It would be interesting to know how accurate these devices are.
  75. spill50

    PAR meter

So you're basically saying he should be using the "Electric" setting when measuring light levels in a tank as "Sun" will be about 8-10% out?
  76. spill50

    Peristaltic Pump Dosing?

How are you powering them? I looked at the Williamson pumps a couple of weeks ago. Figured I should figure out how to power them before shelling out the cash. ;)

    New DIY Cabinets

I didn't no, the good thing about the cutting service at B&Q is if you get them to cut the panels in the right order then the sizes are very accurate as it just takes the cutting width out of the offcuts. So on my plans the offcuts will be smaller than indicated. They say -1/+1mm tolerance but I...
