190L Trigon - my first planted tank

It’s great to see a Trigon again, I started with a Trigon. Very hard tanks to scape, but I found it one of the easiest to grown plants in, good lighting and deep water. Looks ace mate

New Scape (don’t judge me it’s been a while)

Had a bit of a fiddle about and done some moving around. Was a bit nervous when I initially set this one up as it’d been so long, so just bunged some wood in and plants to make sure I could still grow them. The plants took and did well, so decided just to use the plants I had and make more of a...

    Aftermath.

Hey mate, started up a wee 60 in my new living room. It’s more of a jungle than a scape tbh, you honestly don’t realise what you forget when you’ve been out of the hobby for a while! Taking it steady with easy plants.

Got a 60 litre up and running at the moment, it’s only been going about 4 weeks. Nothing special, was going to keep it as a low tech, internal filter etc…but you know how these things go, c02 installed yesterday, internal ripped out and external fitted. Will get some pics up later x

It’ll hopefully look better when it’s grown in and that’ll take a while as I’m not using C02 on this, just carbo. Also, cheers for looking through them, they were good times them. I suppose you never lose passion for a hobby you enjoy

New Scape (don’t judge me it’s been a while)

Hey peeps, the set up has been running for a week now. Took out the ugly internal filter and replaced with a Ehiem 130 eco pro. I have gone with easy peezy plants to begin with as it’s been so long and I have literally forgot everything!

A New Adventure (a jungle mess)

I Sorry, I never really did any measurements, but on an estimate, I would say...the tank was 30cm high, the LED was 10-15cms from the surface, so on the safe side I'd say about 45cms.

What to do when running out of CO2?

I heard he dropped his 80s soda stream in his massive tank, and couldn't be assed to get it out and his minions had to dive in and make him fizzy water everyday, and that's how his amaze tanks were born. Before that they were rubbish. That's what I've heard anyways.

Can someone identify these two plants please?

Yes that's the one...it just looks like the emmersed stuff I get in the lakes near me.

Going Dutch Tropica 1-2 Grow Style

I was what I'd call lucky with this scape. It didn't get any algae, but the plant mass was so high, I'm not sure it would've stood a chance anyway. I did use 100% pure ro water also, with I think may of made a different, that alone with lean dosing and the soil made it perfect growing...

Why do we aim for 30 ppm CO2?

Yes, once you have your c02 at a stable level, leave it at that. It should be off at night, this is why we use solenoids. Then you don't have to touch it at all.
  63. Ian Holdich

Why do we aim for 30 ppm CO2?

Just don't touch the regulator! Lol
  64. Ian Holdich

Why do we aim for 30 ppm CO2?

And also keep your c02 consistent...I've found this probably the most important part.
  65. Ian Holdich

    Pearling or trapped co2?

    That is pearling.
  66. Ian Holdich

    HC root depth

Just remember that aquatic plants don't need to feed from their roots 100% of the time. HC is a stem so it needs root nutients not so much either. Some of the best HC I've seen has been grown in normal sand. The root ime normally gets around 1-2 cm. Give it plenty of c02 of feed the water column.
  67. Ian Holdich

Does anyone own a JBL m001 regulator?

Brilliant regs, I've had mine for 5years now, with the solenoid in place. There's been water leaked back into the solenoid and it's still going! I'd buy another again, if this one failed. You can't beat German quality.

    TMC Signature Aquarium 600mm x 450mm x 300mm Advice needed

Yes mate, you need the mms rail to hang the aquabar from. If I was starting out in the planted hobby, I certainly wouldn't advise someone to get the 1500 without a controller. People have found that the tiles let off a high pitched whistle when using the tile at less than 100%. When the tile...

    TMC Signature Aquarium 600mm x 450mm x 300mm Advice needed

Can I suggest that if you're going with the tile and the mountaray bracket, that you get some practice first...this gives a lot of light. I would suggest you go with the new aquabars if you are using brackets. If you're using a suspension fitting then it's a little different.
