Can liquid carbon be mixed with EI solutions?

Interesting to notice an old thread awaken... I certainly didn't bother trying it - I got another dosing pump. I dose ferts at 08:00 and glut solution 15 minutes before lights on. I'm much more comfortable with electronics than chemistry :-) Rgs, Mike.

    Glutaraldehyde!

When I got mine, which was about 6 months ago, I ordered it at a time I knew I was off work doing stuff on the house and would be in all week. It should have come on the Monday and finally arrived on the Friday. All attempts to contact any human at Bonnymans was a complete waste of time. When I...

That's a shame - I suppose he might have stopped doing it, but seemed as though he was serious to carry on when I went to see him (about 18 months ago). He is a one man band though and might be away / ill / whatever.

    poseidons-palace.co.uk?

Mine came from Jez and it is a good quality, well made tank. When I tried to get in touch, I tried emails but got no answer. He replied very quickly when I submitted a design from the aquarium builder page, so it is probably anti spam measures. I suppose you could always send him a txt. I think...

Hose diameter, bottle necking and flow..

Hmmm, I make it 2.7%.... You'd really want to arrange the flow into the base of the 'T' to make sure you got an equal split. Thanks for posting the results anyway. Looks like I probably wasted my £25 quid :-) Cheers, Mike.

Hose diameter, bottle necking and flow..

Oh dear :-( Hope it dries out OK. If you can leave the wet connectors on a radiator for a day or so it should be OK. Best to make sure they really are dry in case something starts to rot....

    Feedback on Forum Upgrade

Hi, thought I'd chime in here rather than start a new thread as the recent messages are slightly relevant.... What would you expect to happen if someone were replying to a thread and whilst they were typing their piece, someone else replied to the same thread? I tried to post a reply last...

Hose diameter, bottle necking and flow..

I'd be very interested what you find with that. I have split my fx5 output with Y pieces to include heater and co2 atomiser and including the jubilee clips it came to about £25 worth of hardware, which was the cheepest I could get it. Looking forward to your results :) Mike.

Hose diameter, bottle necking and flow..

Hi, A small restriction given by a short bit of something won't make all that much difference. It will make a difference, but not much. If you take a long piece of pipe which is a small diameter then you will see a noticeable effect. Water flow in pipes is analogous to current flow in wires...

    Discussion on water flow

Hi, The tube is 25mm outside diameter and I guess 21mm or thereabouts inside diameter. It is stiff stuff but goes over the fittings and fx5 fittings easily once warmed up with hot water. Cheers, Mike.

Hi, The photo was mine :) and here is the link to the thread.... Fluval fx5 too much for a high tech 200l? | UK Aquatic Plant Society I threw away the fluval tubing and used what you see in the photo just peeking out from behind the filter. Cheers, Mike.

    Problems using a FE?

Hi, I've no experience with fire extinguishers; I run standard 5kg CO2 bottles... but I think that the outlet on a FE is via a tube from the bottom of the tank. A long shot but could the CO2 be comming out of the bottle as liquid and messing with the regulator? Cheers, Mike.

DIY Project DIY Ferts Auto Dose System

These are the pumps I just bought. Dosing pump, Peristaltic dosing pump for aquarium, lab | eBay I bought 2 but got 3 which was extremely good value :-) I'm not too sure how reliable they will prove to be though. I suppose time will tell. Cheers, Mike.

DIY Project DIY Ferts Auto Dose System

I have macro in a 1 litre bottle (4 weeks supply) and I dose micros on water change day. I don't get any precipitate in the bottle so always assumed that there was no problem.... I guess it depends on the concentration and the temperature. I can see the wisdom of stirring the micro solution...

DIY Project DIY Ferts Auto Dose System

I also run an auto dosing scheme. I'm just about to add another pump to dose LC when I can get round to it..... One question though. I can see the benefit of the small pumps inside the bulk tanks to stir everything up (and I've seen a scheme somewhere which uses an air pump to do the same...

Hello admins. Love the new look forums - well done for getting it all together and looking so well. When I read the forums I use the what's new link, browse the results for anything I want to look at and then use the button which takes you to the first unread message. When I back out of the...

Can liquid carbon be mixed with EI solutions?

Thanks for that.... I'll start looking for another pump on ebay then  It occoured to me after I'd posted the question that a 'reaction' could end up sending stuff at high speed towards the ceiling, which would definately be bad  Interesting about the 12 hour life as well - I didn't...

Can liquid carbon be mixed with EI solutions?

Hi, All I was re-reading the glutaraldehyde thread http://www.ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=22296 as I am considering going down the DIY mixing route to liquid carbon as well. However, I was also wondering whether 'liquid carbon' (either self mixed or premixed) could be mixed with the EI...

    Help with LED lighting/Engineering problem?

You could also try some high density foam. You can get it in various colours and thicknesses from craft shops. I got some in black to make a bracket for a gps reciever once and it is quite "none slip" so it should stop the wobble for you.

Fluval fx5 too much for a high tech 200l?

No worries, Paul. My tank is 36" x 18" x 18" so roughly 180l. The spray bar is most of the way along the back so is about 28" long leaving room to get the intake and outflow pipes in.... There are 24 holes each of 4.5mm diameter. I originally drilled them 3mm diameter, but the flow round the...

    UP CO2 Atomiser Problem

I don't think it matters which way round they go - there was certainly no instructions with mine that said so. Do you think your regulator gauge is accurate? Reason I say that, is I had the same trouble with my UP atomiser when I first got it. I did have a leak but when I sealed that I still...

Fluval fx5 too much for a high tech 200l?

Hi, It's a long list.... There are 2x one inch 'Y' pieces, 4 x one inch to 20mm reducers, the heater and diffuser. The heater and diffuser connect together with 20mm i/d smooth wall flexible plastic pipe. The arrangment is as in the picture above. What I didn't say above, but would say it, is...

Fluval fx5 too much for a high tech 200l?

Sorry for the delay in replying - I've been away working :-( Well thanks very much :-) Yes, I waited for a few weeks or so before eventually finding the 'Y' pieces on Ebay at a sensible price. My gut instinct told me that 'T's would give more resitance... The inlet is the standard Fluval...

Fluval fx5 too much for a high tech 200l?

Hi, That's exactly what I did. I got the 25mm 'Y' splitters off Ebay, but it was a one off auction. They do sell a 'T' version them in my LFS though along with the reducers etc. Try to do the split before reducing the pipe size to maximise flow and then you can always reduce it using the tap on...

    LED Lighting

I have learnt so much reading this forum and have to say thanks Clive - your explanations are awesome. But I would just like to explore the inverse square law thing.... Anybody keep any carnivorous plants?

So, a few photos.... Saracenia... Nepenhes - upper pitchers... Nepenhies - lower pitcher... didn't quite get the focus right. This is about 1" long. Venus Fly trap + ex fly... All taken with Canon 5D with 24 to 105mm f4L mounted on a 20mm extension tube. Cheers, Mike.

    Anybody keep any carnivorous plants?

OK Kris, So the white crystals will probably be perlite, which breaks up the compost a bit and aids drainage - they certainly won't be fertiliser - don't ever give CP's a fertilizer (forget everything about NPK !! :-) Yes the 1 inch of rainwater is ideal. Look for specific CP soil mixes. They...

    Anybody keep any carnivorous plants?

Hi Kris, I do.... I've got various Sarracenia, a few VFT's and a couple of Nepenthes. The Nepenthes don't die away because they are tropical - they just slow down in the winter though where they are doesn't get overly cold. The VFT's and Sarracenia do die away (and have to) so that they can...

    CO2 Refills...

I bought my two 7kg cylinders from them about a year ago and they filled them( and have re-filled them since). The cylinders are industrial ones and not FE's. I imagine they will fill anything which is "in date", but you would have to ask them. Good luck, Mike.

Hi, I 'm pretty sure they have been mentioned in here before, but I use Brentex Gas at Middleton, Manchester, M24 6AN. They are quite cheep for gas and sell cylinders as well. They will righly check to make sure the cylinder is in test, but I can't see them worrying that it is a BOC one. Rgs...

    Electronic bubble counter

I registerd ages ago and never got round to introducing myself, so apologies for that.... I drilled out the hole in my bubble counter so that the bubbles were bigger and therefore easier to count for a given flow rate. Rgs, Mike.
