    Lighting Help

Hi Just to offer my experince I have a 180 litre Juwel & have 2 led grobeams running on only 45% power and my plants are growing really well. In fact I think it may have been Iain who advised me to keep them low. By the way, Michael & Foxfish, they are cracking tanks.

    Midground plant suggestion

I have Rotala Rotundifolia growing well in my low tech tank. Its growing really well & trimming the tops makes is making it bush out. I then replant the tops. I got mine from a bloke on ebay 'Premier Aquarium Plants'. I paid £6.00 for 30 stems that were all around 10 inches. I also had...

    Getting bogwood to sink

Hi Andy I was scratching my head about this too. After soaking for a few weeks in a tub I tried weighing mine down with a tight filled with sand. It was a stupid idea that ended with an eruption of soil all over the tank. Then I read on here about using slate, so I got a piece from a garden...

carpet plants and corydoras and hoplo

Hi Arron I have 9 corys, 6 pandas and 3 sterbai and I have dwarf hairgrass growing quite well, although I wouldnt call it a carpet. They have the odd rummage but done no damage at all. In fact they help dislodge bit of food etc that get stuck in the leaves. Wonderful little fish.

    First full clean help needed

Hi Dean, I dont know about bleach, but maybe some of the more experienced folks on here could advise about that? I have just cleaned the tubes on my ecco pro using the eheim cleaning kit. Its a flexible nylon cord with various sized brushes. You feed it through the tubes and just pull the...

Eheim "ecco Pro" vs "Professional 3"

All zooplus electrical gear I have bought from the uk site has the euro plug on. It all comes from their warehouse in Germany anyway. They provide a uk plug for stuff from the uk site, but prob wont if u order from the de site. They are cheap enough though. Also, if you are a 1st time buyer I...

Eheim "ecco Pro" vs "Professional 3"

Sorry T I dont know what colour the pipes are for certain - I think they are the green ones though. If I were you I would get the 2073 instead of the ecco pro or the 2071. If you get it from the German zooplus site you will pay 149 euros, plus a 7% discount if you use the discount code...

Eheim "ecco Pro" vs "Professional 3"

Smaller piping yes, but as I said easy to clog too....and trust me the flow is dreadful! I have a semi decent flow of water only on the front left hand side of my tank only. The rest is one big dead spot that collects gunk. I have a low tech tank, no co2, low light tank so didnt think I needed...

Eheim "ecco Pro" vs "Professional 3"

Hello T I have a 6 month old ecco 300 running on my 180l tank. It does the job of keeping my fish alive, but the flow is not great for a planted tank. Also the pipes got terribly clogged after a planting session and killed the flow entirely. Also spray bar cant be used on the ecco range either...

    frozen food

Hi all Maybe a daft question but every day I feed my fish a block of frozen blood worm & a block of other frozen food in the morning, then at night tetra flake. Is this OK or can I over do the the frozen food?

Gunk at the back of the tank!!

:arghh: I'll have to get the pipe out then. I have also had a good old read of the flow articles on here too. Thanks for the pointers, much appreciated.

Gunk at the back of the tank!!

Hello all Across the back of my 180 litre tank I am trying to grow a 'wall' of rotala. At the base of the stems there is an increasing accumulation of gunk. I have pretty much decided to get a eheim 2075 to replace my eco pro, so when it turns up, should I have some of the flow from the spray...

Whats better: 2 little ones or 1 Big one?

Thanks for providing that bit of info Alastair. I imagine the power of the flow would also be a bit higher too? I have done a crude calc with the ecco pro & I worked out Im getting around 415 litres per hour. The 2224 I assume will be around the same - so I will have 830ish if I hook both up...

    Buying stuff from zooplus DE

It works out quite a bit cheaper - If you spend over 140 euros you are allowed to enter a code "Sammelbestellerrabatt 7%" that gets you an extra 7% off. I get 5% off automatically so I will get the eheim 2075 for around £147 after the bank charges me for currency conversion.

Whats better: 2 little ones or 1 Big one?

Thanks for the assurance about the cabinet folks. If I get the 2075 I will get the drill out... Im still unsure if i should stick with the eco pro and 2224 though. Will the flow from the two be less than the flow from 2075 or Jbl 1501?

    Buying stuff from zooplus DE

Hello all I have a zooplus UK account, but have noticed the prices on the German site are a decent bit cheaper. Can I log into the DE site & buy stuff with my existing UK account and has anyone tried this before or do I need to register a new account with the German zooplus site? Cheers Willard

Whats better: 2 little ones or 1 Big one?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Im still undecided. One of the niggling doubts I have about keeping the eco pro is the way it got bunged up with goo & the flow plumetted. I assume a bigger filter wont get clogged up as fast and keep its flow for longer? That said if I have 2 filters then the...

Whats better: 2 little ones or 1 Big one?

Hello folks I have at last realised my eco pro 300 doesnt do the job for my 180 litre juwel vision.....:sorry: My tank has dead spots where gunk gathers & when I disturb the gunk it doesnt seem to get sucked up, it just settles back down. Also the flow has been drastically reduced by the tubes...

    Help with crypts - please!!

Hello all I have just taken delivery of a massive pot of crypts!! Stunning looking in the pot, loads of decent foliage, but when planted in my tank, they just looks really messy! The question I have is: to tidy the plants up can I cut them back? They all have decent roots, but will a good...

    Is Purigen safe?

Thanks for the replies fellas. I will get two 100ml bags then and pop them in the filter instead of the wool and see how that works. I have a tight foam sponge on the intake and that seems to be catching all the gunk but as a result I have noticed a drop in flow. I only have an ecco pro 300 and...

    Is Purigen safe?

Hi Nath thanks for that info much appreciated. Ive never used this stuff before, so could someone answer a question I have please. I see that 100ml is supplied bagged. Does this mean it comes in a mesh bag for use in a filter?

    Tetras or barbs

Hi Fish fodder I have recently bought 8 black neons. They havent touched the plants I have & dont seem to be bothered by me peering in at them or messing around with the tank. They zoom about in a pack and look very good when my lights are low. I am also considering some Emperor tetras too.

    Is Purigen safe?

Hi all Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I was thinking about using this stuff and how to fit it in my filter. Could someone let me know how much Purigen can you fit into the seachem 'Bag'? Also I have just asked a question on the PFK forum about adding it to my filter instead of the white...

I'm off the mark at last - thanks for the tips

Hi all thanks for the comments. Alastair thanks for the heads up about the water changes. I can just about cope with 10% every two weeks. What happens if i stop dosing? Will the plants wither and die back? Ian your comments about creating depth are really interesting. I hadnt considered that as...

Hi Ian, thanks for the reply. I hadnt considered java fern or anubias, but will look at them. Will they be ok considering the hollow is really dark? I have decided on the Walkeri crypt and will plant it along the purple line and fill the front with more hair grass.

Am I being too ambitious with my low light plans?

Hello Motionless, I have decided on the eleocharis parvula in the middle and foreground with some rounded stones & cobbles, and Rotala rotundifolia around the back and sides. I was wondering about planting densities, how many plants would I need? Plants alive do bundles of 25, so I planning...
