I currently dose EI, using macro & micro on alternate days. i would like to move to the all in one solution as suggested by 'james planted tank', as such i i have just picked up some absorbic acid & potassium sorbate. i will be using the following solution: 48g Potassium Nitrate 2.2g...

Algea problem, need help clearing please.

On the diffuser, i originally picked up the inline UP diffusers. unfortunately, it didnt work with my regulator (TMC Pro2- this isnt adjustable on working pressure- and to make it worse, this wasnt cheap to purchase!) regarding the filter. this is rated for a 600 litre tank, so this should be...

ceg: WOW :) thanks for all your advice, you have gone above and beyond there for me, really appreciate the time and effort you put in. i will begin to put this into practice and report back in a couple of weeks. just out of interest though, since the last week i reduced my lighting from 8 to 6...

    Newbie on EI dosing

I went from the allinone route to the starter kit purely down to cost. Considering my tank is quite large, i was finding the allinone route was going to work out quite expensive, hence went the starter kit route. Funnily enough though, i was looking to reduce my maintenance routine with the...

    Newbie on EI dosing

I just picked up this EI starter kit: http://www.aquariumplantfood.co.uk/fert ... r-kit.html I have a low light (1wpg, 90w T8 lighting over 350litre Juwel trigon tank). i use pressurised co2, and have been using the allinone fert from the same place up until now. Going by the instructions, i...

    Going from hitec to lowtech

Water changes are done in the following manner: Water is pumped out via a pump. I store new water in a water butt, dechlorinate, then pump into tank. My co2 has been constantly the same since going pressurised (at least a month if not more). I forgot to mention, in addition to the juwel...

    Going from hitec to lowtech

I started out my tank a couple of months ago, and i didnt realise exactly what i was doing, until i read up more and found this place! Now the dilemma i have is, my tank is hi tech, sort of. Let me explain, its a juwel trigon350, low light running T8 lights with reflectors at 1WPG- 90w in...

    Ferts on the cheap

looks like i'll have to read up about EI. ive always been put off, as it looks so complicated! Are water changes necessary on a weekly basis? would fortnightly work? i have a low light tank (1wpg), but i use pressurised co2.

Algea problem, need help clearing please.

After having done more reading, i have identified that its definitely 'staghorn' algae. So i did a 50% water change on the weekend, and done another 50% this morning. I can see the algae decreasing ever so slightly, but will continue the big water changes for the next week or so. i added a...

    Ferts on the cheap

I started up my first planted tank coming up to a couple of months ago, and have been using AquariumPlantFoodUK's AllinOne Fert. Is there any other method of using ferts which is cheaper than this method? My tank is 350litres, so i get through quite a bit. Ta

Algea problem, need help clearing please.

Its a corner tank-triangular shaped-350 litres. The regulator is fine, i just ended up going with a glass diffuser, set around 4-5bps. i am using 4dkh in the drop checker. The lights are T8, it has two units. one is 2 * 30w, and the other is 2 * 15w. When you say trim, do you mean trim the...

Algea problem, need help clearing please.

Flow, seems ok to me. In effect there are two powerheads, i.e. one from the internal filter and the other from the external. The water flows all the way round the tank, with some plants swaying in the flow. how best to tell if this is ok? would i benefit from adding an additional powerhead...

    is my new regulator faulty!

just an update for those interested. i picked up a conventional glass diffuser, and this has worked flawlessly i.e. i can set as many bubbles as i want now. shame i cant use the atomisers, but the glass one seems to be doing the trick, so will stick with that. so westy you were right :) Only...

    is my new regulator faulty!

Update i got a replacement diffuser (same one). unfortunately, with the same results :( When it first came on, there was a rush of bubbles in the bubble counter, and then this went to 1bps. Now, no matter how much i adjust the needle valve, the bubble counter remains at 1bps. I am getting...

    is my new regulator faulty!

How and where do I check for this? When I installed the whole setup, I only checked where the reg connected to the fire extinguisher for leaks (using soapy water). Apart from this,I just made sure that all parts of the tubing was very tight when connecting together.
  28. V

    is my new regulator faulty!

i just did a test by taking off the diffuser, and bubbles were shooting out of the tube, then i adjusted the needle valve, and this was increasing & decreasing the flow depending on which way i turned. when i closed the needle valve all the way in, the bubbles completely stopped. Am i right in...

    is my new regulator faulty!

Is it possible then the problem may lie with the diffuser? I was thinking, because there is no change in the bubble counter, that this could only point towards the reg being at fault?

    red sea drop checker question

I picked up a new 'red sea' drop checker from ebay. Now, i realise to make use of this efficiently i need to use 4dkh solution. The drop checker came with its own solution (blue in colour), is it safe to assume that this is ok to use with standard 4dkh solution as opposed to the premix one...

I'll be getting all my FE Co2 bits soon. Ay suggestions on where i could get co2 refills?- im in East London. I have had a look at the links in the thread, with wildwoods being the closest. They suggested they only do jbl bottles, and they charge £18 for a 500g bottle.

thanks for the suggestions guys. following up the recommendation of lunapet, has anyone ever ordered a complete system from them direct? i.e. something like: http://www.lunapet.de/co2anlage_glasrea ... p-118.html Would i get away something with like this as my tank is 350litres?

    shopping list for CO2 setup

I thought i could get away without co2 in my aquarium, but it seems it would probably benefit from the addition of co2. Initially i was going to go the jbl route, but considering i can save quite a bit by the FE route, ive chosen to do it in this manner. I was going to get the tmc pro...
