Using a desklamp on a Nano setup

Hi all, On my mums recent trip to ikea I told her to look out for any vases that could double up as a nice Nano aquarium. The vase she got me is great! Perfect for the job! However I'm not sure how to light such a thing. I wondered If I could use a standard desk lamp and still achieve...

    Fire!

I remember a few months ago me and my dad were sitting in the lounge -on the Xbox as usual so the curtains were drawn to stop light shining on the screen, when we started to smell smoke. We assumed the neighbours were having a barbecue (or the xbox had caught fire during our intensive playing...

Its pretty small, only 60l so one fizzy drinks bottle should be great. It will mean less stuff to hide :D Is this the type of ladder you meanhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260241050439 ? Thanks James

Fred away in Africa for a month

Have fun both of you. My school offered us the chance at world challenge, but extreme adventure doesn't really appeal to me lol. Have a great time, can't wait to see the pics. I wonder what species of fish you'll encounter.

Which would you rather have? large aquarium or large pond?

I think I'd rather have a large aquarium although water changes would be a very expensive nightmare. For cleaning the tank I could invite the local scuba diving club round lol :D I think I'd keep a massive shoal of tetras; stunning.

Are you in to landscaping as much as aquascaping?

My dad is very into gardening and I used to be. When I was 2/3 I appeared on gardeners world with Jeff Hamilton and got a nice little lawnmower, badge, and special lifetime membership to some sort of society which I can't remember the name of. I don't think gardening as fun as aquascaping and...

I think I'll go DIY. Ifound a ceramic diffuser on ebay, it claims that it works with DIY CO2 systems but I'm not sure whether the pressure will be enough to force it through. I'm thinking of 2 coke bottles connecting to a T valve, this then going to a ceramic diffuser or airstone or attempting...

Thanks all, I'll get looking for some statues that look inert and then test them when I get them home. If they turn out not to be suitable they can have a nice place in the back garden :) I found this on Ebay and wondered how it worked, I've never seen a product like this before...

Using the following for inspiration: http://www.pbase.com/plantella/nanobudhha http://www.pbase.com/plantella/buddha_tank So my questions: If I pick up a statue of the Buddha from a shop how can I test if it is aquarium safe? Can I grow live Bamboo in...

My email+facebook has been hacked, I REALLY need some help!!

I recently had my Live account stolen(long story and the fault was with me). The clever so and so's changed my recovery details, and eventually the windows live association so they could steal my Xbox live account. I found Microsoft support really helpful, although they couldn't get me my...

Welcome :) Tell us about yourself

Hi all, I'm James and I'm sure some of you will recognise me from various other forums which I post on from time to time. I've been keeping fish for around 5 years, and have always tried to achieve a nice planted setup - however it never seemed to work. I'm currently in the process of clearing...

Nice ;) Thats a real inspiration that I dont need to spend loads to have a great looking tank! I'm currently confusing myself about installing the lighting. I'm sure it can't be that hard, but I'm having trouble finding twin lighting units that accept a lamp that are 44cm long.

I'm not to sure about making my own CO2 system, I can't see my parents going for the idea. I think I'll try a DIY Yeast based system or perhaps the CO2 Optimat. Have any of you had experiences with that? Thanks James

Thanks for your great replies. I'm gonna read through the links, and plan out exactly what I'm going to buy. I think I will go for the more expensive stuff aquasoil or flora base, because hopefully it'll be worth it in the long run.
