A bit of advice from me is to put some extra silicon on the foam background before you start your scape.
Last Saturday I came home to find the foam background on my less than 5 months old Ebi floating at the top, uprooting most of my established plants and leaving me with a mess to clear up...
I have a brand new (still boxed) light for Ebi that I bought for £33, but never got round to using it. Open to sensible offers if anybody is interested in buying.
I ended up with lots of pest snails (I think some kind of ramshorns) into my tank as hitch hikers on plants, so I got 4 assassins couple of months ago (my tank is 60l and fairly heavily planted), they have done a fab job in cleaning my tank up of pest snails and have also started to breed...
I am in the similar situation - I got 4 assassins couple of months ago to clear my 60l of pest snails and they did a brilliant job. I hardly have any pest snails left and assassins have started breeding albeit at a slower rate. I am now struggling to feed my assassins.
Just throwing another possibility in the mix - could it not be due to some kind of bacterial infection in the tank? I have heard that shrimps are prone to it lot more.
Thanks for the reply Iain, it is close but the colour is very different to the one in the hyperlink. Mine is just green with no red what so ever. Are there different variety of this plant?
Can somebody ID this plant for me please? I don't recall getting this from anywhere, it just started growing from nowhere couple of months ago and now doing rather well in my 60l.
I had exactly same problem with two of my dwarf gouramis over the last year, it was very distressing to watch them gradually getting worse and worse. I use ice cold water in a bowl and drop them in - not nice I know, but they do usually die within 5-10 seconds. I stopped keeping gouramis now.
Ceg thanks again for your detailed expalination. Above are the only readings I have found on water company's site, but knowing that my gh is roughly 3.2 will do for now. My main concern was regarding my shrimp tank (crs and rcs) that I have recently set up. I have read that crs do well in gh...
Thanks ceg, I thought it will be somewhere in these numbers but did not knew what to look for and how to convert it, so thanks for clarifying that for me.
What about gh and kh?
Below is the water quality report for my area from my water company's website. Can somebody please help me interpret these in plain english? (or point in the right direction where I can do it myself). The main things I am interested in is what is my tds, kh and gh.
Calcium 23.1250 mg Ca/l...
In my 60l - 10am to 10pm. I know it is too long but the reason for that is because I manually put the CO2 on (I know I should save up and get a solenoid) before I leave for work around 7:30 and I don't want to leave the CO2 running for too long without the lights. The light is only 15w t8, so...
I gave up and took the solenoid off for now. I will try cleaning solenoid and have a go again to see if it is ceased up etc as suggested.
The CO2 was flowing in the right direction, there is an arrow on the solenoid pointing out from the regulator side.
Thanks for all your help for now.
Cylinder was brand new when I bought it, been using it for about 6 weeks or so. Just took the solenoid off and I am able to control the bubbles much better again. So it's only when the solenoid in attached that I am having problem.
Today I have received a solenoid from another forum member and tried to set it up with my JBL 500g refillable system but I am struggling to control the bubbles, it is either coming out too fast or none at all. Before without the solenoid, I use to have one bubble every two seconds (tank is 60l...
I bought a new JBL non return valve only about a month ago and today when I disconnected the tubing from the regulator to connect the solenoid that I recently got, water started comming out of the tube. I checked by blowing through and it seems that it is faulty because it allows me to blow...
Re: Aquanano40 CRShrimp tank....Photo update.
Ady, your setup looks amazing to me. If mine looked anything like yours, I would be very happy with it. No need to be disheartened mate, keep your chin up.
Re: Aquanano40 CRShrimp tank....Plant melt & new TDS meter.
Wow! I thought I got a really good deal on mine but yours is about half the price I paid. Can you share with us where you got yours from?
Re: Aquanano40 CRShrimp tank....Plant melt & new TDS meter.
What did you pay for the light if you don't mind me asking. Because I bought a new Fluval Ebi complete set couple of weeks ago from http://www.portonaquapet.co.uk for £55.95 + £6.50 P&P.
I have ordered tnc complete which I understand is very similar to tpn+. The question I have is will over dosing than recommended on the bottle be harmful to shrimps? I have some cherrys and crystals in my 60l.
I am in the same boat, I am fairly new to the hobby and just getting into shrimps. In last month or so I have put 19 crs in my heavily planted 60l tank. I have no idea what my kh gh is, but I think my ph is around 6. Other tank mates are roughly 50 (or at least that how many I put in) cherry...
That was exactly my thought that £20 seems a bit too much.
Can I please ask a stupid question? What do you mean by 'in date'. I tried to look for a date on my JBL cylinder but couldn't see anything on it. How long are they meant to stay in date and how would I know if it's in date?
Can't you put some sort of plastic divider or something to stop existing subtract sliding? I was thinking something like a lid of a margarine tub while you are putting the sand in. Others may have a better solution.
I have just started injecting CO2 and am thinking ahead of when I will need to refill my cylinder. Anybody know anywhere in West Yorkshire that do CO2 refills at a reasonable price? I have been told that maidenhead aquatics at carrgate garden centre charges around £20 for a 500g JBL bottle, is...
I don't have solenoid but I do manually turn my regulator off every night and turn it back on in the morning. Can the regulator handle this or will I damage it by keep turning it on and off every day?
Re: Cherry Shrimp & CO2
Well, following some very useful advice on this excellent forum, couple of days ago I got rid of my 3 adult female guppys and about 60+ frys. And to my surprice within couple of hours loads of rcs came out of hiding. Today I also sold my beautiful shoal of cardinal...
Re: Cherry Shrimp & CO2
I must have put about 60 rcs (4 different batches from different buyers) in my 60L over the last couple of months and don't understand where they have all disappeared to? I can only see few sometimes mostly after the light is out, so I know they (at least the few that I...
When I asked a similar question my lfs recommended me sagittaria teres, so I bought two pots couple of months ago and they are doing really well. Slowly but surely it has started to cover my substrate and is looking very nice.
