    240l rescape

Thanks. The wood is Sumatran bogwood that I got from aqua essentials. I was able to select the pieces individually and their size is listed as well. Fish wise the old stock is a few remaining rainbows (Bosemani, lake terberas) cory sterbai and lots of Kribs which have bred like mad. I've also...

    Stu's 90x45x45 Apalala Shore - IAPLC 2012 #114 - AGA 2012 #3

Re: Stu's 90x45x45 Apalala Shore - IAPLC 2012 World Rank #11 Congratulations on the placing. I loved this tank in it's early stages, but that final shot is awesome. One of my favourite tanks.

    240l rescape

Tanks only been running about two and a half weeks, but burnt through 500g in 10 days, so would be about 1.5kg a month. That was at 4 bubbles per second. I've tinkered with the bubble rate and settled to about 1.5 bps. The drop checker's still lime green and plants appear fine so hopefully will...

    240l rescape

Thanks for the feedback, I've been looking at the setup and see exactly what you mean. Water change this Friday so I'll see what rock I have to play with. Well nearly two weeks in and the stem plants have gone mad, so I'll be trimming them soon. I've had a bit of melt with the HC, but seems to...

    Blyxa japonica melt

Thanks for all the replies. The tanks a rio 240. Kept the juwel filter but added another pump giving about 2000lph circulation. Substrate is Fluval plant stratum and I'm dosing EI. Bubble counter was showing about 3 bps and the drop checker a bright grass green, almost lime coloured. I've upped...

    Blyxa japonica melt

Thanks Whitey89, I will probably take you up on your kind offer, but just want to resolve whatever issue is causing the melt first. Is it common for Blyxa to melt?

    Blyxa japonica melt

Well nearly a week on from planting and all is fine apart from the Blyxa which has melted away. Crypts in the tank appear fine and other plants appear to show signs of growth. Will Blyxa recover? There are two areas of it in the tank on either side. Bizarrely it's the group nearest the diffuser...

Cube Re-scape "Behold! A nugget of purest green!"

thanks, I was just wondering as I'm considering a small shrimp nano once I've got my main tank back up to speed. I might not have room in the kitchen for CO2, where it's likely to go, so might have to consider a liquid carbon. Just got to convince the OH that the kitchen needs a tank now. It's...

    240l rescape

 Re the old tank, thanks. I pretty much 'winged' that tank without much forethought initially and ran it for seven years. I bought a bulk setup of random plants and tweaked it as it developed, by removing plants that weren't successful under low tec, ending up with that photo in it's...

Great looking nano. How much CO2 are you getting through on a tank that size?

    240l rescape

Thanks. I was intending to put some moss on the branches, but forgot to order some  . I will probably attach some, but probably not so it covers the wood entirely. I might wait to see how the plants grow in and then make a decision. Not sure what moss to go for either. I tweaked the...

    CO2 help

Thanks, Yep would appear atomizer the main problem, after I replaced the faulty bubble counter. Plugged in a ceramic diffuser and all good now. :)

    CO2 help

Thanks for the replies. The check valve is ok and it's a CO2 cylinder. However I will alternate with a FE when refilling the empty cylinder. I found a leak on the bubble counter, a tiny crack in the casing invisible to my eye. Replaced the bubble counter but still not getting through. Although...

    CO2 help

Hi, I've just finished planting and have hooked up my CO2 system, but don't seem to be getting any CO2 through into the tank. I'm using a dennerle profi 200 regulator and solenoid. I'm assuming its set up right: cylinder to regulator to solenoid to check valve to bubble counter to atomiser...

    240l rescape

Well finally got around to breaking down the old tank. I've safely moved the current fish stock to a holding tank and stripped off the old structured background. Silicon came off a dream using a bit of bicarbinate of soda and a thourough rinse. I decided not to replace the background after...

Cycling a hi-setup with EI dosing?

Thanks Pepedopolous, I'll be using Fluval plant stratum and will be planting quite heavily. I'm planning quite a large area of H.C and there will be a fair amount of slower growers like crypts, so was toying with the idea of floating a few bunches of stem plants at the beginning, such as...

Cycling a hi-setup with EI dosing?

What is the best way to cycle a hi-tech setup from scratch? Previously I've always cycled my tanks without fish, but have avoided adding ammonia (just used a bit of fish food) and then stocked slowly once cycled. My rescape will include pressurised CO2 and EI dosing. I've read the setting up a...

    Fleabilly's planted tank.

 I've got a 4 year old daughter as well and all our fish have Disney princess names! The way you've banked up the substrate in the middle is different from the norm, but looks effective!

    240l rescape

Following a house move, I'm soon to be moving the tank home and thought I'd take the opportunity to rescape it completely having been inspired by the many amazing tanks on this site. I've lost original photos of the tank in it's former prime as that computer bit the dust, but managed to salvage...

    Planting densities

Can anyone give any indication of how big an area a single pot of the most common carpeting plants will cover? I haven't decided yet on my plant choices for my tank, but am planning to have a foreground carpet of some sort and wondered how many pots I may have to order. Thanks in advance.

    Easylife profito suitable?

Thanks ceg4048, I'm going to get hold of some EI salts and run at the suggested dosing from the off. I think trying some hybrid approach with the profito is likely to get complicated and likely cause me issues. Might see if I can exchange the profito at my LFS for easycarb.

    Ichthyobodo? second opinion please....

Could be a number of things - bit difficult to tell from the photo. Is the white patch fluffy like cotton wool - could be fungus, if off white patch could be columnaris bacteria infection. Ragged fins could be Fin rot, another bacterial infection. Ragged fins can also be a sign of ammonia levels...

    [NANO] Fluval Flora 30l

Great looking tank and shrimp! Never come across dragonfly larvae being a problem before in aquariums . Always thought more of an issue for ponds. Vicious and effective predators though. Apparently H R Geiger used them as part of his inspiration for the xenomorph out of the alien films...

Snails - love or hate them?

Funny thing is I feed very sparingly, yet still lots. However i had the tank fairly heavily stocked with rainbows so I imagine the fish waste alone sustained the population. I had no idea how many a tank can hold until I stripped it down for a house move. As soon as the water level was reduced...

Snails - love or hate them?

Kept ramshorn by accident, coming into my tanks as hitch hikers! Had MTS which bred like mad and also nerites and apples. The MTS caused no problems at all. I found that the nerites layed the white eggs on mass initially, but then just stopped. I can't give any reason for this. I've had apple...

    Best position for diffuser/atomiser

Thanks, once setup I'll try both locations and see which distributes the CO2 bubbles around the whole tank best.

    Easylife profito suitable?

I'm guessing this is the method that water suppliers use to monitor the water they supply to us all? I take it that I can therefore adjust the amounts in EI dosing. For example taking the water company's base amount of NO3 and adding only enough KNO3 that is sufficient without lifting NO3 over...

    Best position for diffuser/atomiser

Continuing to plan the rescape and am wondering where is best to place the diffuser. I've had to keep the juwel internal filter rather than get an external as funds short (long story  ). I was thinking best placed on the filter box under the outlet so the rising bubbles are pushed around...

    Easylife profito suitable?

Just seen that Easylife do additional Nitro and fosfo products so i'll dose these with the profito first. I'll then move to EI once I've used it up as it seems by far the most flexible approach and cheaper too
  37. D

    Easylife profito suitable?

Thanks for the replies. It won't be stocked with fish initially until cycled as I'm going to run the filter from scratch, and keep my current fish stock in a holding tank. I haven't tested my tap water where I currenty live, but only moved 8 miles so can't imagine it'll be that different. I've...

    Easylife profito suitable?

Hi, I'm planning a complete strip down and rescape of my old low tech tank and am going hi tech. I never really used ferts regularly in my old tank. I will probably opt for EI dosing eventually having read the excellent article on this forum but have a new bottle of profito and wonder if it'll...

    Hi from Salisbury

Hi all, I've been keeping fish for 8 years now and have until now ran a low tech jungle type tank of sorts (could be very loosely termed as aquascaped :) ). With a house move a while ago and no where to put the tank it's been fish sat by the inlaws, but with building work now complete, I'm...
