    Hair Algae

Thanks chaps, I think it was as much changing my method of adding CO2 through a different diffuser as much as anything. I've done as you suggested and pulled as much of the stuff off as I could. I usually let algae do what it has to do and eventually it will eat all the nasty stuff in the...

ADA Gallery pics - Amano's office at the gallery

Wow, always leaves me feeling inspired, but look at all that light he uses. If I had the budget and didn't care about the environment... Hang on, no I still couldn't come anywhere near.

    Sub on the cheap

I frequent the fishkeepingforum as many of you may know, Jimthefish on there recomended a sub of John Innis No2 and kids play sand and a mix of 3 to 5 mm grit and play sand on top to stop the John Innes from floating in the water. I've used this method 3 times it it has to be said that I am...

    Hair Algae

I've just refitted my 580ltr planted tank. I replanted it with new plants just because I wanted a change. I have a feeling the algae came in on the new plants and it loves my water. I have never had a bad case of hair algae before, how should I get rid of it. Oh, I'm not going down the road...

    Discus FRY!

Congrats, BigDanne. I've been tempted by Dicus myself. I do have a RO unit but have stayed away from them because 1. I can't decide which ones I want 2. They come with a difficulty rating 3. They fight each other 4. They like a high tempreture (too expensive) You appear to have quashed...

Couldn't find anywhere for vids so I put it here

I forgot to say. Yep I agree they are great for the planted set up. They don't pull any plants up or rip leaves. However they do eat a lot which leads to more water changes.

http://www.fishkeepingforum.co.uk/forum ... 7768#27768 The tank and loads of pics of my tank are on the fishkeepingforum.co.uk. You might have to register to see the pics. John who runs the website won't send you any junk mail so fear not. I will upload them on here at some point but I appear...

    Arcadia T5 starter

Yes you have to put both tubes in to work, and yes you should have the right sized tubes. The advantage of the 54Watt unit you have mean you can have the longest tubes. I’m assuming you have bought the compact unit. These lights get very hot so try to get some air around them if you can. I...

what do you suggest for a CO2 regulator kit???

I bought the exact same items from the same places as you, although I had to buy two of everything  because my tank is 2m long and I have greedy stem plants half way accross I didn't think the Co2 would make it to the other end of the tank. I'm really impressed with the defuser. We call...

    Oliver Knott

 Having seen your comments I have to say I'm not a fan of that type of display. In fact I’m not a fan of any ornaments that you could find naturally. However I was in the Gold Fish Bowl in Oxford the other day and as always I was amazed at how they can make a shipwreck or a plane...

    African biotope

I agree the biotype entries for the AGA were lacking plants. Most biotypes tend symbolise the African lakes because they are easy to maintain and contain no or few plants (Nice though). I think the easiest planted biotype would be something South American or Japanese because of the amount of...

    African biotope

I had big problems trying to get the right plants from the right region for an African set up I attempted a year or so ago. I wanted to create an African pool for killifish that I hoped to semi drain once a year to simulate natural conditions. I found that I didn’t know enough about the...
