    Low tech Discus help

Cheers mate, tank dimensions are 120x55x45 I've read and read and read some more and will continue to do so, I've good wild Mbuna at the moment and they are very susceptible to any change in water parameters and need perfect water. Maybe not as demanding as discus but i feel I'd be ok keeping...

Cheers mate, the tank is 120×55×45. The light unit is what i posted above but don't really have anymore info. Cheers, ive seen George's video and its a great help. That link is also very helpful, thankyou. How to plant a low-maintenance Nature Aquarium

Something i have learnt since keeping Malawi cichlids as they can be less tolerant to any change in water than other fish is to prep my water for 24 hours before my weekly 50% wc. I use a water butt, heat and aerate it the day before. Have seen a massive improvement in my fish since doing it...

How to plant a low-maintenance Nature Aquarium

Hi again everyone. I joined this forum a few years ago and set up a juwel rio 125, didnt quite go to plan as life in general got in the way. Iwagumi hardscape for malawi's.

Thank you both. Jordi, that's kind of what I'm thinking. Iwagumi hardscape for malawi's.

Hi guys, I hope it's ok to come on here and discuss this as it will not involve plants. I'm soon to be setting up a 4ft tank for Malawi cichlids, almost certainly mbuna. I was wondering if people think a iwagumi style hardscape would work for them?

Benefits of heavily planting a new set up.

Thanks for the reply and the links. So a high mass of plants doesn't help control algae but will help with ammonia and other chemicals compounds? So apart from this and the obvious visual aspect there is no other benefits? I think what I'm trying to find out is that will I have any issues...

    When to add shrimp

Thanks for your help basil, you have given me some great advice and plenty to think about. Are there any shrimp that are more suited to being kept with fish?
  31. Martin Osmond

    When to add shrimp

I really don't know mate, I will be keeping fish in this tank also, just a nice shoal of cardinals. As for the shrimp I will probably start off with some easier one's and see how it goes. What's a good number to introduce in the beginning? I like red cherry shrimp.
  32. Martin Osmond

    When to add shrimp

Gonna be using 1-2grow for 90% of the plants so i dont think that will be too much of an issue. I won't be adding any shrimp or fish for a good while as I won't be able to afford it! I also want to make sure I can actually grow the plants before I add anything else. Think there is more room for...

    Tmc reg gauge

Yeah the needle valve was wide open, have put it all away now so will have to wait till tomorrow to see if that helps. Thanks
  57. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg gauge

Right so the gauge is now working however the whoke gauge is now getting sort of frosty which I assume is a leak although I cant gind one anywhere. The plastic washer that goes between the reg and extinguisher is damaged. Could that b causing this?
  58. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg gauge

Thanks for your help, will have a think about what im going to do.
  59. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg gauge

Tried that, stayed at zero. Gave the gauge a bit of a whack and it went up to about 20 bar and has stayed there since. If it is a faulty gauge does that just mean i wont know when the fe is about to run out or do i need a whole new regulator?
  60. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg gauge

Thanks martin but the gauge is at zero and does not move, it was at 50 before i connected it to the fe, as soon as i opened the fe it went to zero and has stayed there since.
  61. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg gauge

The working pressure gauge goes up when the handle is down, the other one which i assume lets me no how much co2 is left does not move. It was on aroud 50 bar before i first turned it on, it now stays on zero. Thanks for trying to help
  62. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg gauge

Yes i realise the handle needs to be down permanantly but as i bought the reg 2nd hand and have never done anything like this before i just wanted to check that everything works. Have just tried it again and it did not let any co2 out when i turned it on but it carried on letting it out for a...

    Tmc reg gauge

When I first turn the solenoid on without holding down the handle co2 comes out for a couple of mins then the working pressure drops to zero. 64. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg gauge

The cylinder is still heavy, everything seems to be working fine, bubble counter works, needle valve adjusts fine, just the one gauge. Was only turned on for about 5 mins so i can't imagine it's a leak?
  65. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg gauge

Hi, after setting up my fe to test that everything was working ok one of the gauges went from 50 bar to zero. I assumed this would mean that the extinguisher was empty but it is brand new so is obviously not. Any ideas ?
  66. Martin Osmond

    TMC V2 Pro Regulator?

I have literally just set mine up on a fe. I know nothing about this sort of thing but it is really well made and is working on a up inline. The needle valve goes from one bubble every couple of seconds to loads of bubbles and seems fairly responsive to me although I cant compare it to anything...
  67. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg with fe

Sorted now, I didn't realise you could turn the solenoid round so when I originally tried to put it on the solenoid was in the way and touching the fe. I twisted it round so it is no longer in the way. I doubt this thread makes any sense to anyone, including me lol!
  68. Martin Osmond

    Tmc reg with fe

Yes it screws on fine but the solenoid at the bottom is in the way so I sort of turned the whole thing on its side. I know it does not make sense will try to put a photo up
