I've had a look at the Ricefish pics on net. Mine looks a bit darker. But I do know that the LFS where I got it from stocked Ricefish, so I must have got a free stowaway lol. It's lasted at least 10 months on its own now lol.

Bloody hell. I'm using a BOC 5kg cylinder with gas on for 6 hours a day at a bubble rate faster than I can count. This going into a reactor chamber. I started using this very beginning of January. It's still going strong! Drop checker is always lime green :) Forgot to say, it's a 180L tank.

Big clean day tomorrow. Cleaning all the external tubing, reactor, heater and filter. All powerheads and external filter. Attaching some Eheim taps to the tubing. Then cleaning the glass, changing 50% water and having a trim. Anyone else have plans? That's my Saturday :(

Is it not light that is the main driving force behind nutrient and co2 demand? Surely just because there is more food and co2 about doesn't mean it would try to use any more? Assuming light intensity and photoperiod remains the same? Im probably wrong lol.

Reason I don't want to fire loads of nitrates in is that over a certain level they can affect the fish can't they?

Thanks Clive, I can increase surface agitation by aiming spray bar and powerheads slightly higher up. But interesting about the expulsion of lipids. Should I try increasing EI dosing by 10%? CO2 is at its higher limit now really.

Never seen it as thick is today but could be just I'm a day overdue on water change. All the co2 bubbles or glute bubbles were trapped in it. I just broke it up with my fingers and its free flowing again now :)

Yep. It's the second one not the first. It does easily break. It's due a water change today but I've been badly so have to change tomorra. That always clears it.

Hi guys, Came home today to find a skin on the surface of the water. I get that cloudy haze on the surface but its solidified today. I had to break it up to get rid. Was like a thin rice pudding skin. Never seen anything like it. Is it just a protein film?

I've seen it once a while ago but thought it was a reaction between calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate making virtually insoluble calcium carbonate. I changed all the water that day lol.

Hi guys, Changed water today and added macro straight after. Then I added glute fairly close to adding the macro. Can these 2 react if they are not properly dispersed? My water has gone cloudy.

There is definitely something else in Excel other than glute. I made up some 3% glute solution and dosed to double a normal Excel dose. I have a couple of little tufts of BBA. Nothing happened to them. Waited a couple days for glute to decompose. Bought some Excel, double dosed that...

They are good for the price. I thought build quality would be a bit better. The Perspex bulb cover is just a thin flimsy with of acrylic. Reflector is just held in behind bulbs by the bulbs. I took that out to have less light. Overall I'd recommend. It now stands about 6 inch higher than...

I started off with about 15 plantlets from a guy on here. I've since separated a couple to get the look I have. Maybe about 20 in there now. They have grown a look bigger since I put them in mind you. Really I could do with up rooting and separating some. I don't like interfering though lol.

There are some that use magnets and the wire is outside the tank. Can't remember off top of my head the brand. But they cost about £200 each. I use Koralia Nano's and Newave. Both are excellent. If I had to choose a preference. The Newave ones are better.

Not yet pal. Need to make up a new stock this weekend so going to make it up to 3%. I've noticed though, dosing this DIY flute up to round about 8ppm has no effect on BBA. Whereas excel kills it at just a double dose. There's definitely something else in there other than glute.

I've just had a larl clear out of the leaves with black edges. I had covered one bulb to see if that helped. But, fish were gasping. Plants weren't producing enough oxygen for them. CO2 level was too high I think. Not enough being used I would say.

It's getting annoying now. I keep getting BBA on the edges of my crypts, Anubis leaves and HC stems. Everything is moving in the flow, drop checker is a nice lime green colour and the light is only on for 5 hours a day. EI dosing is takin place as well. I don't know what I can do. I'm spoiling...

Yea it's 4dKH in there pal. I don't think it can be raised and lowered. I think it's in a fixed position but 4-5 inches higher than my current bulbs. I like the idea of open top as I've just got some lily bulbs growing :)

My co2 level is fine. Drop checker is like green all the time when lights are on and I have 3 power heads spreading the flow. I can't do anything else regards flow and co2 :(. Only leaves light really.

It would give me more versatility with the tubes I could use would it not? Normal 39w tubes can be bought for as little as a fiver lol

Light is only on for 5 hours now. Only thing I was thinking was new one will be 12w overall less. Plus it will be about 4 inches higher than at min.

Had me confused for a while too lol. Diffuser I used to run about 3bps and got the nice green colour. Now with the reactor I cannot count the bubbles, must be 6 plus. And it's on 4 hours before lights on lol.

I had this too when I moved to a reactor from diffuser. But, I think with the diffusers there are loads of little bubbles floating about which will directly go into the drop checker and pop. Resulting in a false reading as there is more going in there than actually in the water. Your...

I have the same size tank roughly. My lights are on for 5 hours a day and I only have 90w of light compared with your 144w!!! Think you should start with 5 hours max and look to half the light.

Yea I can't measure potassium unfortunately but I do dose the same amount as nitrate. It seems weird. Flow seems to be fine also as the water flows right over that area from the spray bar :(

Last time I checked iron it was above 1ppm. That's enough isn't it pal? I know phosphate is around 5ppm too. I do get a lot of green spot algae along the glass just above the substrate level. That's down to low phosphate too but EI aim is 2-3ppm. I'm confused.

Hi guys, got some of this growing fairly well now. I know it propagates by runners (least I think it does). Is it ok to give it a trim and re plant the tops? It's quite tall now but wanted to leave it till the roots bedded in.

I had the same stuff when I done my fish less cycle. I got rid of it every day so never got that bad. It does eventually go on its own once it's all going properly.

They are under the spray bar yea but they are swaying nicely.

Cheers guys. I have to disagree with changes in co2 etc, as only thing that's changed is plant has been uprooted and replanted. Nothing else has been touched, co2, ferts and lights.

We use it at work. It has to be ultra pure water, it gets purified at work too. I'll see if I can check the tap water at work when I'm next in.

Funny you should mention conductivity. I analyse that at work. Deionised water has a conduct of 0.5 microSiemens. Never tested the tap water in the lab though. Only thing that concerns me with the rain water, is the ammonia in there. Thought that was really strange. Don't fancy adding it to...

That's true Neil. Was mainly cost I wanted to use rain water. Thought water actually cost than it does. According to my bill I used 47000 litres of water in 5 months. I must be having long showers ha!

I think with shrimp your only safe to go to 1ppm. So rearranging formula for 2% Glute and 35 L aiming for 1 ppm is: ((1 x 35) / 20000) x 1000 = 1.75ml

I use far worse chemicals at work lol. I know I've washed my hands in worse over the years lol :)
