Trimmed up the hc and glosso today. Ferts I'm using 1ml of each. 0.5ml excel all dosed daily. Plus adding calcium chloride and MgSO4.7H2O as my tap water is so soft at water changes. Cheers.

Watched a video of filipe oliveira where he rinsed the old aqua soil then used a lot of root tabs to rejuvenate it. Sounded like he uses this practice quite often to good effect.

Hi, Interesting thread. I can rule out fish food as my 60X30X18 high tech tank always has surface film. The tank only has a few cherry shrimp and is heavily planted. I don't feed the shrimp I just leave alone to graze on the biofilm.

Yes the Janso from Ikea are good. I have 2 for my wabi's. It only costs a tenner + about £4 del if you can't go to the store.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll take some pics of it where it's growing next time I take the dog for a walk. It stays this size all year round but more of it grows emersed than underwater. It does look a bit like mustard cress actually.

Saw this growing in south west uk in a drainage channel in quite fast moving water, it was growing out of decaying leaf matter etc. It also grows emersed and forms a fair old carpet especially in the summer. It is single stem with 2 leaves.

Hi mate. The temperature will be fine. When I had my dsm running last winter I also was worried about the low temp so tried a mat heater but turned it off due to it getting to warm. I found it made no difference or certainly didn't stop the plants from growing either way.

Yeah that's good co2 is already in abundance so give it full on photon light blast (been reading ceg's posts) is no problem with dsm, the problem with too much light and not enough co2 only begins after the flood..as I'm sure you're all too aware ;) all the best and good luck :) Jon

Nice little project. Those tanks are really nice. Will look nice when it carpets and you add the moss etc. I guess if the co2 is free it can't hurt but there is more than enough co2 already present in the air, what you need for quick growth with dsm is plenty of light.

From what I've learn't so far about led's this seems to be the case..

It will be plenty bright enough to grow any plant, I'm growing HC @ 65%. But if you don't like how bright it looks compared to your other light at 100% it may be best to stick with what you have - it seems to be working well enough! Grobeam 1500 might look a bit overkill over this tank though.

Added 10 cherry shrimp yesterday. Some have really nice colour. They looked to have settled in well. I drip acclimatised them for a few hours last night, switched light off & co2. Took a couple of photo's today, looked like they were having a game of shrimp hide n' seek :D

Hi Ady, I may have missed this in your earlier postings but what's the reason for dropping the liquid carbon dosing? Also do you use the Mosura BT-9 after every water change or just on filter maintenance days.

Think mine was just over £130 all in from H2o aquatics but it still quite a lot. On the plus side you never have to buy a replacement bulb/tube, light output stays constant pretty much for it's life, and uses less leccy :)

I had my lights on for 13 hrs a day for a while but I dropped them to 12 when someone said 10-12 hours was enough lol. Yeah sure 14-16 hours wouldn't hurt, well maybe just the pocket but not so much with the led :)

DSM been going for 3 weeks now. HC continues to do well and spread. Hair grass recovering now with old growth dying off and more new growth appearing everyday :)
