Everything seems to have settled in the tank... Mostly
The white spot has been treated and I found out that my Nitrate was rather high out of the tap which didn't help matters so looking into getting a RO unit but as things go at the moment the fish are happy.
One puffer regrettably died a...
Thank you for the advice I will move them to a separate tank straight away and work out what to do with them from there. The platies have already given birth but all of them have been munched as far as I can tell.
Thanks again for the info I think I have a game plan now and am getting a tap...
The readings shown where just before a water change and I am dealing with the ick based on what webworm said and obviously using treatment and increased temperature the only part i am still unsure of is whether i need to get rid of the puffer if he is causing the damage to the other fishes fins.
Filter was on a small tank for a bit and then moved over to this tank while it was empty for 3 weeks.
I have been doing 50% changes every 3 days but will move over to 25% daily for a bit is there any other things that can help?
Are the fins related to ick or is it from fin nipping or something...
So the fish are from a wholesaler and I would normally quantine but as it was a new tank I didn't see a problem and due to the number of fish didn't see another option.
So today I have noticed the fish acting differently and think one of the puffers has become very aggressive but not sure if he...
Ordered the new part Thursday night and it arrived Friday and meant I didn't have to worry about the pump anymore but I might replace it is that pump powerful enough for the tank?
Also got co2art.co.uk to send them the correct check valve (Hight Quality CO2 Check Valve Non Return |...
So a couple weeks ago I started dosing with micro and macro while regrettably my check valve was still broken so co2 was a little less consistent. At the same time I broke my filter clip but luckily superglue seems to have done the trick and though I avoid carrying it by the handle it seems to...
After settling overnight the tank looks a lot better!
Dosing hadn't arrived yet and glass check valve is rubbish so having to manually turn co2 off and on which is a little difficult.
Some of the plants quickly became my favourites and seemed to be the ones with a bit more style. I have...
Thanks,
Getting ready with substrate in
An attemp at planting
Though I still don't love it I think it is 'acceptable'. There is a time lapse of it being planted but there is about half of it planting hair grass so not sure it's worth it.
So I have had the tank running for a couple weeks but wanted to document everything so far and see what people think and what I have done wrong... A couple bits are obvious so far.

Thanks for telling me is Oscomote or Oscomote Plus the right one, I have Oscomote but was reading that one of them can be damaging?
Also are there any guides (did search the forum) that can give me an idea how much Oscomote to put in the tank (Rio 180)?
I was going to put some sand on the...
I will be going there tomorrow so will see if they have anything left :)
I saw a converter for that but was £15 have you seem them cheaper?

They also had easylife dosing chemicals £1.25 for 250ml but I...
It is an aqua soil but the tub is not very big for the size tank so would need to midis with something else to bulk it out... Tub is about the size of a shoe box....
So you would go Deponitmix and 1 bag Cat Litter? :s
I have Tesco Low Dust I have not opened the bag yet as not sure what to use, did you use anything under the cat litter to add nutrients as that's what I understand Oscomote can be used for?
Would you recommend cat litter then?
Deponitmix is a unknown that I came across at a great price and...
I wonder if it was possible to either find cheap CO2 or modify them for FE for either set below as they seem very cheap if only the CO2 wasn't a rip off...
I think I know the answer but due to the price I had to ask,
Or
So I went out to get substrate for my RIO 180...
Went to Tesco and now have 2 bags of cat litter.
Went to garden shop and got Osmocote (not plus not sure if this is right therefore)
Went to second garden shop and the had a massive clear out and among other things got a tub of Dennerle...
I have just had a look at them, look pretty good I kinda want to collect just to see other people's setups :D
Thanks I have been lurking for a while but thought I should make myself heard.
Coffee always work just keep drinking it until it does!
I have or been able to find any info on this so maybe you have thought about it... I want a shrimp tank journal may be up soon and am thinking of starting with 10-20 shrimp but thought it may be best to get 50/50 from different people /...
I heard the bellow are quite good but am tempted to upgrade to the Eheim but not sure it's worth the extra cost...

The small tank will be for shrimp and will be a stop gap to the larger tank (which won't have a low bio load)...
Having said all this I may end up planting both up as a local supplier will allow me to order from them if its a larger order :)
On a small tank is there any point dosing if the...
Working on the basis,
You get:
1 x 500g Potassium Nitrate
1 x 250g Potassium Phosphate
1 x 500g Magnesium Sulphate
Macro Solution
Mix, Shake & Leave to Dissolve Overnight:
4tsp Potassium Nitrate
1tsp Potassium Phosphate
6tsp Magnesium Sulphate
500ml Water
so for 1 Potassium Phosphate you...
I have a Rio 180 and a Small 40l (ish) tank. Rio is going to be a normal planted tank but undecided on fish etc and the small tank will be a planted shrimp tank.
Which is easier though low tech or high tech?
I have everything for low tech so may have to start it first but just wondered...
