I would just change the t8s for 2xt6's from aqua essentials and run it on a really good substrate, minimal dosing, med co2 and really good flow and you will prob be ablem to grow some of the demanding species :thumbup:

Ive got a fluval roma 125 and considered the same thing. The trim isnt actually a brace as such, taking it away(as long as no damage is done to silicone) shouldnt pose a problem, although getting it off may be quite hard, you will need to saw down the plastic, keeping a few mm away from the top...

the closed loop ones work, as that, closed loop, just like filters do without primes, you have to fill the tubing up with water and then turn it on.

if you were to connect tubing for both ways it wouldnt work, as these type of pumps dont have a prime on them.

Is this going to be for any species you fancy, or do you have a list of species already sorted that you would like to grow? or are you just going to try many different species and see how they fare?

it may or may not do, depending on the substance used. I have spoken to my dad to see if he had any velcro, he said it wouldnt work as the block would be too heavy, im goin with the screws.

the otherside of the velcro is an adhesive, so yea, like glue

i did think about instead of screwing, drill holes where the screws would go and use a cable tie, but i spose you would have no benefit to just using screws, unless you ran out that is.

run the filter you are currently using on your set-up at the moment with the new filter, or simply switch the media into the new filter.

I would quite happily pay more, but atm this will be my first aquascaped tank, i have grown a few plants before, but this is the real deal for me, everything is new, pressurised c02, higher lighting and proper substrates(instead of that tropica rubbish) :) maybe 6 months down the line coming on...

i planted my first with some curved end tweezers, and did a little maintinance with a tiny pair of scissors, although i cant help thinking straight tweezers would be better for me thanks mate. has anyone used the UP straight tweesers, and/or the ferplast scissors then?
