Bleach works well, squeeze a little on or soak it in a 50/50 bleach water solution, when its clean, remove. Remember to rinse heavily after, and also i know some people rinse it in dechlorinator after too. Adam

yea, i'd love to put the diffuser into use on my 60cm, how long will they be?

my cats dont take any notice of the tanks, as they are higher up most the time they tend to be lower down, so they probably dont think about them. i dont think a household cat will ever actually catch a fish, the only problem would them be falling in :thumbdown:

Yea, the light is pretty good, what i'd be tempted to do though is to swap the bulbs for T6's from aqua essentials, 40% more light then.

geez, and to think i worry about my 125litre upstairs on wooden joists :lol: I would go with what others have said, thats a hell of alot of weight, it could bring your whole house down

I now do my waterchanges a good few hours before lights on to minimise the co2 fulctuations during the photoperiod.

sure they're not snails? pest snails can be brought in on plants, and will eat algae.

enviromentally wise, as brenmuk has suggested, marine keepers are more to blame :shifty: destruction of reefs is much worse. Regarding water, those than use RO systems waste much more as they use aswell.

Ive ordered some plants from our sponsors, aquatic magic, they are based in malaysia. I havnt recieved them yet, after a mess up with the first set they "sent" out.

what do you mean by newly planted tank, has it been cycled? if it hasnt been cycled, the shrimp wont last 2 minutes as they are quite sensitive to water problems, but if its planted, and cycled, i would wait for a couple of weeks until getting some shrimp really.

There are so many possibilities, its my chance to be creative-or to try at least. Its an everchanging display, a piece of nature right in your room and i love it!

Plus to echo what Andy said, buy quality products from the start also, you dont want things going wrong, for choices in hardware etc. put a post up on the forum if you cant decide, its expensive, but worth it all in the end.

There are several "plug and play" nano's on the market, dennerle do a good one, and so do superfish, but what i would do is see if you can find the tank size you want, just the glass, and then decide on lighting, there are some good clip on lights or luiminares for 1 foot tanks that can be found...

i would get a big plastic box and stick the plants in there(providing they are in pots) fill water to cover roots, and cover the plastic box, spraying water from your tank 2 times daily, and filling up the bottom with fresh when needs be, that should be fine, you could keep them in sunlight for...

I have 2 running tanks atm: 15l- takes 5 mins if that 60l- 30mins once cleaned filter/glass etc.- longer if pruning!

ive heard jumping can sometimes be down to poor water quality- so thats no1. and then also you can make a perspex lid like aarons 216l tank only a really thin piece, thirdly avoid fish that are known to jumping.. obviously i think the people with open top tanks that cant put a lid on for reason...

limestone will raise the ph and hardness of the water, something that plants and certain types of fish wont appreciate

I am a huge fan of the plain black background, i think its the best, shows off the colour of the plants and fish brilliantly.

I do sympathise with you, but i feel its unfair that you are pinning the blame on me after you have had the plants for a good few days now, if you said you put them in a pot then thats exposing them, and therefore surely more prone to things like this.. i can suggest WORMER PLUS for the bugs...

i had this dilema at the weekend, i would normally do it, but i have been adding easycarbo to the tank lately, isnt this dangerous to consume?

are they snails?? or do they have legs and look like lice... whatever it is you can kill then with something called WORMER PLUS. you buy it as a powder and then mix it with water, its completely safe for shrimp, fish and plants, just not for snails and pests

to be honest, i dont really learn all that much from it anymore, getting past the beginner stage in a number of different aspects of the hobby just makes pfk a good read.. i usually just get it as something nice to read, intresting and becuase i pick up a few tips here and there.. i am waiting...
