    Betta mini cube

I love the idea of these, but, after having a baby biorb(yes, i know  ) im never going acrylic again, the amount of scratches was just silly, and i'm really careful! Adam

    Cleaning glassware

Bleach works well, squeeze a little on or soak it in a 50/50 bleach water solution, when its clean, remove. Remember to rinse heavily after, and also i know some people rinse it in dechlorinator after too. Adam

Discussion: Are we obsessed with circulation and flow?

I certainly am obsessed with flow, unless I can see the plants swaying to what I think is enough I will increase. Although I started my 60l with the stock 300lph(approx) internal filter for flow, I have soon added a koralia nano(900lph), the more flow the better-to a certain extent  The...

Discussion: What's your favourite part of the hobby and why?

Re: Discussion: What's your favourite part of the hobby and Apart from the overall beauty of a nicely planted tank I enjoy the fact that it never stays the same, watching a tank adapt into a mature display, and having a little bit of my own mother nature to tend to is great.

    Clean Up Crew

in my 35litre i have: 1x otto 1x nerite snail about 20 cherry shrimp the otto tends to keep the leaves of the plants clean whereas the snail tends to clean the glass and hardscape. edit: to add to what Sam said about the shrimp, mine are breeding, although the babies are being...

    Cats and fish tanks

my cats dont take any notice of the tanks, as they are higher up most the time they tend to be lower down, so they probably dont think about them. i dont think a household cat will ever actually catch a fish, the only problem would them be falling in

Advice for first attempt at planted tank?

no need to cycle again. it all depends on budget tbh, and if you want the tank to be a high or low tech one. i had a tank similar to yours(bar the plastic plants) i used tpn+ and easycarbo, dosing both 2ml daily, i had 15w of light, and was able to grow anubias, ferns, moss, p.helferi, and...

    Would this work?

Sorted the substrate, i have some black gravel(fairly corse, but wont matter when the plants are covering) so that wont be small enough to go through the Nature soil :) so about 1cm of sand(already in the tank, hopefully harbouring some nice bacteria) :) then the nature soil, probably about 2cm...
  13. AdAndrews

    Would this work?

yea, maybe if i splash out on more Nature soil-or similar, then i would only have to dose easycarbo daily :) One thing i was thinking about, if i pick a substrate that is heavier than nature soil(as this is very light) will the top layer work its way to the bottom? thinking of going with...

    Would this work?

Hi guys, im thinking about using my 60cm for a planted tank, pretty low tech, my ideas are these: Oli Knotts nature soil-need to find something else to use with it, as ive only got about 3l of this... 54litre tank- more like high 40's when displaced. 15w of t6 lighting. fairly heavy flow...

    Juwel Rekord 800 Aquarium

Yea, the light is pretty good, what i'd be tempted to do though is to swap the bulbs for T6's from aqua essentials, 40% more light then.

Positioning an even bigger tank...floor ok?

geez, and to think i worry about my 125litre upstairs on wooden joists  I would go with what others have said, thats a hell of alot of weight, it could bring your whole house down

    Aquael Brillux

looks an awesome tank :) whats the black thing thats seems to be screwed on in pic1? is it just the bracket for the filter??
  21. AdAndrews

    What are these?

sure they're not snails? pest snails can be brought in on plants, and will eat algae.

me too, i was thinking of getting one of these about a year ago :)

Environmental Impact of the Planted Tank?

enviromentally wise, as brenmuk has suggested, marine keepers are more to blame :shifty: destruction of reefs is much worse. Regarding water, those than use RO systems waste much more as they use aswell.

is it okay to put some algae eating shrimps...

what do you mean by newly planted tank, has it been cycled? if it hasnt been cycled, the shrimp wont last 2 minutes as they are quite sensitive to water problems, but if its planted, and cycled, i would wait for a couple of weeks until getting some shrimp really.

    3d backgrounds or not?

for a nice planted set up i prefer to have a crisp look, i feel these backgrounds are for the more biotope aquariums, in which they can look amazing. I have a marine black bark background for my 60litre(neolamprologus multifasciatus) and to me its a big benefit, it looks good, and on that...

    I Want A Nano!?

There are several "plug and play" nano's on the market, dennerle do a good one, and so do superfish, but what i would do is see if you can find the tank size you want, just the glass, and then decide on lighting, there are some good clip on lights or luiminares for 1 foot tanks that can be found...

In need of quick plant storage help!

i would get a big plastic box and stick the plants in there(providing they are in pots) fill water to cover roots, and cover the plastic box, spraying water from your tank 2 times daily, and filling up the bottom with fresh when needs be, that should be fine, you could keep them in sunlight for...

What to do with spent water after water change

Yea, but technically, wouldnt more water be "recycled" if you simply poured it down the drain? i spose if your mrs would usually water with fresh tap water anyway then it is better to use it for the flowers, i dont tip it on the flowers & plants coz i use easycarbo and im afraid its harmful you...

How do you stop your fish jumping out?

ive heard jumping can sometimes be down to poor water quality- so thats no1. and then also you can make a perspex lid like aarons 216l tank only a really thin piece, thirdly avoid fish that are known to jumping.. obviously i think the people with open top tanks that cant put a lid on for reason...

    im infected....

I do sympathise with you, but i feel its unfair that you are pinning the blame on me after you have had the plants for a good few days now, if you said you put them in a pot then thats exposing them, and therefore surely more prone to things like this.. i can suggest WORMER PLUS for the bugs...

    What are these creatures?

are they snails?? or do they have legs and look like lice... whatever it is you can kill then with something called WORMER PLUS. you buy it as a powder and then mix it with water, its completely safe for shrimp, fish and plants, just not for snails and pests
