    Undergravel filters

Hi, I would think the major failing of ug filters in planted tanks would be getting and even flow through the substrate. I guess water will flow via the easiest route so once hardscape and further down the line, root growth have taken their place, then water flow will be compromised in large...

    Dark Start

Hi, Interesting thread. I will definitely be dark starting my next scape that uses new soil, despite having to look at an empty unplanted tank. Lily pipes for a shallow tank?

Hi, Forum sponsors Horizon Aquatics do a range of cal aqua pipes and one set is the X1s nano short inflow pipe with an immersion depth of 80mm. That should do the trick. Cheerio.

    Just help!!! .... please 😁

Hi, did you plant before you filled the tank with water or are you trying to plant with the tank already full? It is much easier and more successful to plant before adding water and then slowly fill. The soil will eventually compact slightly with time making replanting cuttings etc easier and...

    New tank trouble

Hi, as co2 deficiency causes structural failure, and in this post you highlight poor oxygen at night (Poor gas exchange), can poor o2 during the night hours have the same effect on plants, as in structural failure that lack of co2 has during the photoperiod? I’m quite intrigued as I’m going...

It’s a concern, however in all my years of fishkeeping I’ve never had a hose pop off......usually it’s a task to remove them! Most filter/equipment manufacturers have hose locks on all hose joining points and regards glassware, just ensure to push the pipe on far enough (I usually go for a...

Anyone have their tank in an alcove/corner?

Hi @bushaaayyy, love an alcove tank, they can look spectacular as @J-Bonham has illustrated with their beautiful display. One thing I would consider if putting in the largest tank you can fit in is painting the outer rear and end panels with a suitable type of paint, be that black, white or...

    light screens

I know what you mean. The colour is from a gradation foil and the light screen themselves are just white. Iwagumi in a big cube?

Hi, I like cubes, but they can be slightly challenging to scape, especially with rock only. What you want to achieve is both height and depth in the scape to balance it. Need some help tweaking acquarium

Hi, if you are mixing your own ferts you could just add a bit more p to the solution. If not I’d just increase the overall dosage. It looks like your dosing regime starts at 30ml on Sunday but then you drop it to 10ml per day for the rest? I’d just add 30ml per day as that is still only half...

Clip-on light for low tech bowl?

I think the problem with a clip on light is the bowl top, most are designed for plane edge glass so won’t work correctly on a bowl. A magnetic one may work but you would then also need it to have an adjustable goose neck to get the right angle. I agree with others that the best option would be a...

New tank EA aquascaper vs 90P

Hi Dean. I guess the main factors are budget, cabinet style/colour options and size. If budget is no issue then the choice is simply aesthetics within your living environment both how it looks and how it fits. The ea is 5cm wider which is really nice for scaping, but only if it fits your living...

    Need some help tweaking acquarium

I see, it was the drop checker that confused me and the 2dkh solution. There is probably no need for the drop checker to be honest. I think the main issue could be the fertiliser. I would look to add fertilisers daily rather than weekly, and up your dosage (which is currently very lean) also...

Handwash / lotion and fish tanks

    Flow in planted tanks

When you look at Amanos tanks there wasn’t a huge amount of flow. These are display tanks and will get daily attention but quite how the plants are fed I’m unsure. It makes you wonder sometimes :crazy: Likely the stems feed from the top exposed leaves where food is more available.
