A Brief and Incomplete History of Aquascaping

Superb article @Tim Harrison, many thanks for taking the time to collate and articulate

    CO2 In the planted Aquarium

Well that explains everything :) Amazing to show the immediate uptake response from the lights on at 1pm, and then subsequent response at the photoperiod end. Highlights the response times of the plants and the importance, especially to us who use the high tech approach with high light levels...

    CO2 In the planted Aquarium

So it seems that this post in relation to 'co2 in the planted aquarium' is more relevant to the diurnal reaction of ph in relation to 'oxygen production in the planted aquarium' during the photoperiod.....not to co2 or even the effect of co2 outside of the photoperiod as that levels off at ph...

    CO2 In the planted Aquarium

Yeah, it would be good to see the photoperiod times with that graph also so we could see when lights on and off are in relation to the ph increase......and to know more about the co2 injection, if there was any. The points about water alikilinity I hadn't considered, but will rightly have an...

    CO2 In the planted Aquarium

That seems confusing as CO2 should reduce the ph during the photoperiod not increase it. Maybe the photoperiod is backwards, or the result are from a non co2 tank, or co2 is injejcted 24/7?

Sorry, I was beaten to it ;)....what Iain said!

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

Hi, CSM+B is just trace mix which is all the Micro fertiliser elements, you purchase it as a trace mix.....try looking at the sponsor sites for what you need. I can't currently link them as I'm on my phone, but AquariumPlantFood UK and the nutrient company sell all you need. Aquariumplantfood...

    Fire extinguisher CO2

oooh errr, sounds like youve done it before! does look good though, nice idea.....i have the luxury of being able to hide mine in the cabinet :) ....means i dont have to go buy some tights, or worse feel the wrath of the Mrs when she finds out her favourite pair are keeping my c02 cosy and pretty!

    Fire extinguisher CO2

what did you use? certainly looks a lot better than the bright red extinguisher with safety details etc on!

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

Hi again, id like to start dosing dry salts direct to the tank. Its 180l....rounded up to say 50 us gallons. Ive read the thread again but am confusing myself with numbers so would like to know from someone who does it regularly roughly what amounts of the n, p, k and csm+b i should be dosing in...

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

yeah i understand your confusion, i dont know either! We need Clive to explain it for us. Maybe its something to do with uptake rate in a given time period, ie plants may uptake some minerals more greedily than others effectively feasting on the most important ones first, if we replenish...

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

They may well be some of the variables Clive was talking about

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

think of your plants as greedy animals like a fat cat. You could feed 7 sachets of cat food on day one and the cat would trough it, but then would get hungry later in the week even though nutritionally there is plenty, wheras 1 sachet per day provides more than enough to sustain healthy living...

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

Thanks Clive, its all a balancing act then to ensure enough for all!! Cheerio, Ady.

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

...unless of course you provide enough for both........ ...or can some plants actually use available c02 faster and more effectively and consequently starve other species? i know this was just an analogy you used there Clive, but do plants monopolise? Or is it down then to control, ie...

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

Thanks for the clarification Clive. Looks like at three times recommended dosage TPN+ should cover things. Cheerio. Ady.

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

Hi Clive, maybe a q for the fertiliser sub forum, but regarding TPN+ its interesting to know it contains the same nutrients as the EI method, but do you know what dosage you would need to add of TPN+ to provide in excess like EI? Obviously it would prove uneconomical, but for those who use it it...

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

Thanks for clearing that up Clive. The RO water was hypothetical of course, i use tap water myself. Im new to EI salts and am just trying to gain a more complete understanding. NPK and micro are the way to go then. I just wanted to see if there was a way of providing everything so as to...

    EI DOSING USING DRY SALTS

Hi, the idea of EI is to provide an excess of nutrients so there is never as shortfall, so why dont we add every possible fert as standard to ensure in any instance all bases are covered? There has been discussion about adding Mg and Ca to the mix, are these not included as standard as normally...
