EA glass skimmer inlet - HELP

Sounds strange but maybe close the bottom section slightly to give a slight draw from the top which may offer enough resistance to stop the bouncing. I sometimes have to play about with mine to get it just right. Out of curiosity you don’t have two sets of the glassware do you? If you do, try...

EA glass skimmer inlet - HELP

It can be a randomly occurring issue. I suffer the same sometimes, usually because the filter is drawing too much water after a good clean. Sometimes it does it if a leaf gets stuck on the lower inlet thus drawing more from the surface. If you have the option to run the filter at less flow try...

    What hose/tubing are you using?

In my experience clear hosing is the best option as you can see the bio film/algae building up inside which makes you want to clean it regularly. In high tech planted tanks where consistency is key keeping the hoses clean offers the best flow rate which is necessary for distribution. When my...

Replace fluval g6 prefilter with sponges?

Hi, there are 2 types of pre filter for the G6 one is a 75 micron blue cartridge which is fine, and there is a standard white one. Which do you have as I’ve never had an issue with the standard white pre filter cartridge clogging too quickly in the 7 years I’ve been using them. If you are using...

    Circular flow

Flow is a nightmare, and with heavily aquascaped tanks it is even more difficult. Traditionally both filters would be on the same side wall pointing the same way to get a circular flow pattern, however often hardscape and plants get in the way. People then opt for the opposing side front to rear...

    Glass surface skimmer issue!

Yeah, I have a couple from previous tanks already, just wanted less power consuming and intrusive items, but if the aquascaper clear built in skimmer isnt going to work then Ill use the proven eheim skim and like you say I won’t be looking at it

    Glass surface skimmer issue!

Tbh I have the aquascaper one and still find it a bit of a pain. Sinks, glugs, draws air in they seem very fickle depending upon water level, filter power and upper to lower inlet proportion. gUSH - OPipe or OBubble?

Hi, The obubble is designed to create a gentler flow pattern than the opipe. It may be less efficient at distributing co2 depending upon your tank size and filter flow rate. Off gassing may also be higher with the obubble so you may use more gas. I use the opipe and it is very nice glassware...

    Waterflow/positioning

Hi, for a high tech system it is generally accepted that full length spraybars along the rear of the aquarium facing forward with horizontal flow to the water surface is the best method (ie across the width). This will offer the best circulation and distribution of c02 to the plants as the water...

    Circulation Pumps - leave on 24/7 ?

Hi, if your going to time them to shut off, have them shut off after the photoperiod. Have them on for the photoperiod to help distribute co2 and nutrients to the plants. I used to time mine to go off at night, but now leave on 24/7 as it is also helping to agitate the surface slightly...

Filter return enough flow or circ. pump as well?

Hi Paul, if you decide upon liquid carbon then your tank will be a high tech, and as such distributing the carbon to the plants is equally as important as with gas so a higher turnover (recommended 10x tank volume/hour) will be necessary. Without carbon enrichment then the turnover is less...

Gunk at the back of the tank!!

Serious issues with Juwel Bioflow 3.0 filtering system

    Recommended Filter media

Ha, i edited my original post as you were replying. Although your filter is recommended for up to 600l tank volume, it maybe isnt 600lph? However on smaller tanks i beleive it is less critical to achieve 10x turnover and still get good all round flow. Cheerio,
  46. Ady34

    Recommended Filter media

yeah, thats what id do, you need to be looking at around 10x turnover to give yourself the best chance of good distribution, so ideally youd be looking at a 600lph filter for your 60l tank :) Cheerio,
  47. Ady34

    Recommended Filter media

you dont need to fill your media trays. Planted tanks act like filters anyway and its much better not to over fill your filter as this reduces flow efficiency. Some even run much less media to ensure maximum flow from their filters which is much more important in a planted tank :) Cheerio, Ady.

Really auto top up is best when connected to a main feed permanently, otherwise you may as well just use a transfer pump from your holding drums at water change time.
