    Buying Discus in the UK?

They did regularly, wrigglers and onto the sides of the adults, however I never took it any further as they were display fish and in a community they had little chance of surviving. cheerio,

    Discus in very narrow tank...

Yeah I just don’t get it, I’m sure Maidenhead stock stendker discus which are the exact same fish in my images, only they never look their best and often are emaciated and highly priced in chain retailers. Keep them correctly and they would sell themselves as they are incredibly coloured fish. A...

    Discus in very narrow tank...

Tbh they aren’t the most active fish but they do get big. Long term it would be unsuitable as they would reach 6” in length and that just wouldn’t seem right keeping them in a tank that narrow.....for me it is just that, they shouldn’t be kept in a tank that narrow as they are a big majestic...

    Help Identifying 2 Whiptail Catfish

Yep first definitely looks like a Rio atabapo crying whiptail. Second unsure, but perhaps a knobnose or Pinocchio although much darker than I’ve seen. I had crying whiptail some time ago: When they were younger the dark areas were more pronounced much like in your first image.

HELP! A problem that really sucks

Sorry your post made me laugh.... I think you unfortunately already know the answer, last time you had to strip the tank and tilt it on edge to catch the blighter  Alternatively keep it as a single fish only tank with hardy plants and be traumatised by the fishes taunting character daily...

    Dwarf cichlids....mixing

Thanks roadmaster. Ive actually found a site dedicated to apistogramma and it seems perhaps a group of male only dwarf cichlids may be a better choice. I may just stick to Rams. Ill do some more research.

    Dwarf cichlids....mixing

Hi all, after a little advice. Im wanting to add some dwarf cichlids - apistogramma species and ram cichlids to a set up i have. It is primarily an angelfish tank, but has a small school of corydoras duplicareus a few otto catfish and will have another school of 'dither' type fish, cardinals...

Silver Tip dropped dead after w/c

Hi Bertie, sorry to hear about the silver tip. Do you pre heat your water change water or is it just cold water used? if all the rest are ok id think it was a weak/old fish that has been easily effected by shock of some kind.

    How to catch a SAE?

2 nets. 1 white one green. Use the white net to heard the green net to catch. For some reason the green nets seem less visible to fish. EMERGENCY? Help!

As George said its not critical immediately, but just redose the one you dosed on the day of the water change. Ei is based on an excess anyway and whilst adapting your plants uptake won't be as high. With regards reducing lighting and co2, if you want to reduce lighting intensity significantly...

    EMERGENCY? Help!

Regards ei dosing, just do it after your water change. Alternatively just add a proportionate amount of ferts back in to the water removed. Say for a 50% water change add another half dose of ferts after it to bring the levels back up.

    EMERGENCY? Help!

Hi Andrew, I know it may be bad news but I'd suspect ammonia poisoning. Even with the Africana soil there will be an ammonia leaching period and I don't think 2x 50% water changes in the first week will be enough especially in a heavily stocked aquarium. The problem with ammonia is that it...

White Cloud Minnows for a nano ?

Hi Hixy, there are a lot if shrimp species that are happy at room temperatures, some even prefer it cooler. They also are small enough for nano tanks and are very interesting to watch. Cherry shrimp are tough cookies and would be an excellent starter choice. My CRShrimp nano tank has Crystal...

    Butterfly barb

Hi, 'Sticleback' is the name of a native British fish we have here. As children many of us will have visited our local streams to catch them, much in the same way you can catch the butterfly barb above. Cheerio Ady

What dry fish food do you use?

Yeah I'd second Ian there, tetra prima is a great all rounder, some floats some sinks so everything gets some. I also use the tetra min crisps, there's different types which I use for variety.

Cheers Rick. Got a few cherries but intend on getting some amanos.....will prob buy them from pets at home, they are like king size prawns! Then I may get 5 or 6 zebra loaches :)

    Will WCMM eat CRS?

Fancying some temperate fish for my room temp CRS tank. Will white clouds eat my CRS? Is there anything small enough that will live in 21-22degree celcius water that won't? Cheers Ady

As above, do these interesting little fellas do the good old loach trick of schnaffling up pest snails?...I have an epidemic of some small white mollusc like crustaceans that I want gone and fancy some khulis. Small schooling fish for new tank

Check out some if the micro rasbora species. They would be ideal. Maybe some galaxy rasboras. I'd agree with krazypara that 2 dozen would be too many and I'd be looking at around a dozen fish max. Cheerio Ady

    Corydorus Hastatus temperature

Hi all, wondering people's experience with acceptable temperatures for these little beauties. Stowaway fish. Any ideas what it is?

looks like a panchax sp. killifish. Thats my best guess. Killis are annual fish in the wild, laying eggs in the mud as the dry season comes around, when the wet season begins the following year the eggs hatch and the cycle continues. Probably explains the mystery arrival. Member Killi69 seems...

    Harlequins playing dead

Very similar routine to what i used to do and my Harlequins used to do it occasionally too, i always put it down to c02....it did seem to be at water change time though, maybe something to do with the filters going off and high levels of c02? Certain fish without heating??

Hi there, i run my crs shrimp tank heaterless as they prefer around 22 degrees c which my room temp maintains. Ive thought about going heaterless on the studio tank but im apprehensive about it. Im concerned about any long term issues with lower temps as many of the fish we desire like 75-77...

Suggestions in a box! Pleco species please

I don't see any reason why you can't have plecs. You just need to add extra surface agitation and possibly an air stone. Of course you will use more c02 in doing so but you can have high levels of both oxygen and carbon dioxide within water. Co2 doesn't mean less oxygen and infact a healthy...

    Tinfoil Barbs & Golden Severums?

Hi, look like parrot cichlids (http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=parrot ... s:76,i:348) to me, as opposed to the golden severums (http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=golden ... s:108,i:78) which have a less 'humped' head shape. Clown loach and Tinfoil barbs look correct id. Cheerio, Ady.

    23l edge for betta?

You do right striking while the iron is hot! Edge should be fine for the betta. The small surface area of these tanks means that oxygen exchange is limited, but labyrinth fish obviously dont mind this so much as they breathe air. They will find the 'air hole' where the surface is open no...

    Discus

    Black neon tetras

Hi, i havnt kept black neaons before, but was thinking of using them in my next scape along with marbled hatchetfish, a much more subtle looking fish choice but with enough interest. Are co2 enriched tanks really fair on the critters?

Ha Ha, yeah Amano has a very unique sense of humour apparently, reading something recently in substrates i think on an ADA powersand thread, Plantbrain (Tom Barr) had asked him (Amano) what was in his powersand.... to which he replied "power"!! , dont think Tom found it too funny. With...

Are co2 enriched tanks really fair on the critters?

Hi, i think ceg4048 answerd the q on p1, then we went off a little but still quite relevant. surely youve seen Mark Evans last journal, he used lower c02, 2x T5 suspended quite high, and check out his growth! With this way of doing things he's the Amano of UKAPS! Cheerio, Ady.
  71. Ady34

Are co2 enriched tanks really fair on the critters?

Yeah, ultimately its the aquarists responsibility to care for the aquarium and its inhabitants. Due care and attention needs to be applied to all aspects of fishkeeping, and the addition of c02 enrichment in the planted tank is just an extension of this. As i was writing my post...

  73. Ady34

Are co2 enriched tanks really fair on the critters?

I know what you mean, hence 'mini ecosystems' of sorts. More of a manageable dependant system. However still interesting to find out more about c02 in nature to see what the fish out there have to put up with. Cheerio, Ady.
  74. Ady34

Are co2 enriched tanks really fair on the critters?

Hi, its an interesting point, but id also like to know to what level water is c02 enriched in nature where the plants grow naturally. Obviously were trying to recreate a 'mini ecosystem' of sorts, but if c02 isnt present in the water column in such high concentrations in nature, where do...

    juwel vision 260 stocking

Hi, what filter do you have? i think even if its standard juwel filtration that level should be no problem with regular water changes and general tank maintanence. Strange behaviour by fish

Hi there, i noticed this same behaviour with my harlequins a while back. It was during a phase of trying to optimise c02 which i had just increased, i therefore drew a conclusion of c02 overdose.... perhaps wrongly? Ill be interested to see other replies. Ady.
  78. Ady34

    Gassed Neons?

Hi there, youve done the right thing disconnecting the c02 and raising the filter to oxygenate. Id also suggest a 50% water change to ensure no other water quality issues. Hopefully theyll pull through if it is c02 related. If the c02 is running continuously, newly purchased fish will need...
