    Swell Limpopo Black Sand

Just had the delivery from Swell UK and the sand is actually Unipac! I'm not sure 30kg will be enough for a 180L tank though.

    Swell Limpopo Black Sand

Rang around the Midlands stores of MA but none in stock. I've bitten the bullet and gone for the Swell stuff so it should be here today. I'll post a pic when it arrives and keep people updated as to its progress in my tank.

    Swell Limpopo Black Sand

That would be the Unipac version I'm guessing. Swell UK do their own branded version so I'm trying to understand if its as good or whether its a bit ropey :D

    Swell Limpopo Black Sand

Hi All, There seems to be a real problem in getting the Unipac Limpopo Black Sand around my way and its only available in 2.5 kilo bags. I expect I'll need about 30kg of the stuff for a 180L tank. I see Swell UK sell the stuff but its their own brand. Has anyone had any experience with this...

In the market for new substrate in an existing tank

Thanks for the reply Alto. After doing a lot of research, coupled with previous experience and you guys here I have decided to go with what I know. I'm going to go for Tropica Plant Growth substrate capped with Unipac natural sand. I don't intend to move stuff around too much so I hope this...

In the market for new substrate in an existing tank

Thinking about it, if I was to use some kind of mesh with something like Tropica base soil, would this still manage to keep it down?

In the market for new substrate in an existing tank

That's an interesting read. I don't mind putting some effort in when setting up, its the weekly maintenance that I'm trying to keep to a lower end. When I first started this hobby I used Seachem Onyx Sand with pretty good success. I then put down some Tropica substrate underneath and had...

In the market for new substrate in an existing tank

Hi Manuel, I think the problem with that is that it will all mix in to one another as time goes by. With that in mind I'd prefer to go for a single substrate throughout. Lee

In the market for new substrate in an existing tank

Hi Guys, I'm currently running a 180L (100cm) tank and I've got Tesco lightweight cat litter in there at the moment. It's really annoying stuff because while it looks good and doesn't disintegrate after time, it is just too light to reliably hold plants down. Nearly every morning I get up to a...

    TESCO cat litter

Thats the correct stuff what Darrell has pointed out. It works OK as far as I'm concerned however with decent flow around the tank its very easy for plants to be uprooted as its very light. I've having a right problem with my replanted stem tops saying down at the moment.

    Aquatic Compost

What to get for my 11 gallon Nano

Hi guys, I've got myself a nano and cant decide how much substrate I'd need. I was thinking of giving AquaSoil a try but i'm open to suggestions. I'm hoping for a good HC forgreound with rock so i might try for an iwagumi style with something else in threre for feature. I expect it will be...

    Akadama for coldwater tank

Thats my problem really, nowhere to put the goldfish apart from a bucket and i've been told thats a nono by her that should not be mentioned :D. Lowering KH might not be a bad thing though with my water. I'm lead to beleive fancies prefer softer water and they thrive in the LFS RO tanks. I...

    Akadama for coldwater tank

I actually prefer the look of the akadema as wel, plus it has its price which is attractive also. I may end up planting some plants suitable for room temperature so i dont want to completly rule it out.

    Akadama for coldwater tank

Hi guys, I'm after a cheap substrate for a coldwater tank and i thought of Akadama. I understand it changes the water perameters initially so I wondered if my goldfish would have a problem with that? Unfortunatly, I can't house them elsewhere and i'm considering changing this to a tropical tank...
