I have an Eheim Pro e3 which is rated at 1850 LPH. When I put a bazooker atomiser under the filter inlet it most certainly caused burping. I have since moved to an in-line diffuser on the filter outlet. I don't mind too much the bubbles but may give it a try on the inlet and see if there are any...
I tried the same thing and ended up ditching the splitter. Personally, unless you have a huge tank, I don't believe you get much benefit of having 2 diffusers. I moved from the small Bazooker diffuser to the large one and that did everything I needed in a 200L tank. After all, the CO2 dissolves...
I assume you are looking to compare something like the Up In-line Atomizer and the Bazooker In Tank atomizer.
I've used both. They use the same micro-bubble technology really so it depends on what matters more to you.
In-line:
Allows less bubbles to be seen in the water column.
If you are...
Hi all.
I've added a quick video so you can see how theCO2 is entering the filter. Its kind of 50/50 going in and floating up to the top. What's left at the top looks to be getting blown around somewhat. The CO2 came on today 3 hours before lights but when lights came on the drop checker was...
Thanks for that Ian. I see that the pressure coming out of the spray bar is quite feirce and is hitting the front of the tank. If I drop my water level, I'm pretty sure that the spray won't get that far, especially with extending it.
I also see that you have a Koralia and a powerhead in there...
Yes, I agree. I bought it years ago and certainly wouldn't bother with one that expensive again. But hey-ho... live and learn!
Now to make the damn tank work....
Thanks for the replies. I've done exactly that. I've put the atomizer under the filter intake and all of the mist is going into the filter. Every now and then I'll get a burp as the gas is obviously building up inside the filter to an extent. That might be due to the amount of bubbles I'm having...
Yeah, I didn't expect to get it. The Eheim monitoring software doesn't even go up to that LPH!
I've got 2 of the 4 baskets full. One with fine mesh media and another with the bio cylinders. The. There's the pre-filter sponge too.
Would you remove more than that?
Thanks for that. I do have another atomizer to put in the tank but I'm having an issue with the CO2 splitter so cant put that in yet.
Unfortunately I cant buy another filter so I'm stuck with the e3 and the koralia. On paper it should be plenty however I just need to figure out the best way of...
Hi all,
This could have also gone in the filter section as well so tossed a coin and posted it in here :)
I've struggled for some time with getting decent CO2 distribution and plant growth but having moved house and broke my old T8 lumaire in the move, I've done a bit of upgrading. Now its...
Hi All,
I have 180l tank with an Eheim Pro 3 2028... lots of flow!
I'm currently using a 3 year old Up aqua Super Atomizer. I cant seem to find any links for these any more so assume they are end of life. A similar looking one is here...
Hello All,
Can anyone recommend a variable pressure CO2 regulator which will allow me to up the working pressure of the reg? Mine seems to be a fixed one and I'm not getting quite enough pressure at 1.9 bar for my UP atomizer to work well enough to almost OD on the CO2.
All help appreciated.
Hi All,
I'm wondering if i can change the working pressure of the aquatic magic regulators that they sell on ebay? I'm using mine with an UP CO2 Atomizer but, while its working, i think i've hit the wall in regards to how much gas is released. I've got the needle valve fully open and I'm...
It's the green NHL one which I don't think is changeable with the operating pressure. Not sure I fancy trying a re-tap. I have no idea how to do it. Can the needle valves be changed??
Hello All,
I have been using an imported regulator from Hong Kong (off eBay) and its now got a problem. The problem is that the bubble counter which it came with has broken. This screwed on top of the co2 outlet and the problem is that its not a UK standard thread. If I now try and screw on the...
Well, i could try it but that means actually buying the filter. I'm a little concerned that if I get the filter and the concept doesnt work then i'm back to square 1 but £100 down.
I'm just determined to get it right this time having spend the last 2 years with ok tanks but with some...
Thanks for the reply guys.
I've been speaking to clive who also had the two co2 outlets but thats not really an option for me due to limited space.
Whats peoples thought on this scenario:
instead of having the inlet and outlet of one filter on the same side giving a co2 rich and non co2 rich...
I guess the other option is to ditch the filter I have, sell it and put it towards a massive filter to take on the 180l tank. anyone have any thoughts on this?
I don't really want to add even more to the tank. I wanted 2 ifilters and zero powerheads.
Im putting the CO2 on the powerful filter because I beleive i've hit the wall with how much CO2 i can get in the tank. If i put in any more CO2 the reactor has gas buildup and the CO2 level doesnt...
Thanks for the reply.
I was intending on putting the reactor on the larger flow filter but given the spraybars will be pointing forward (aiming form the back to the front) only half of the water will be CO2 rich. I didnt want to have the koralia in there as well really.
Ed has suggested that...
Hi guys,
I posted this in the filters section but didnt get much of a response. I need a relativly quick answer so I can place an order for the correct equipment. Hope the mods don't mind!
Im getting a second filter to up my filtration and flow rate.
My existing one is about 1000 lph and the...
Thinking about it, as I have a new needle valve now, can i just replace this in the regulator? It looks like its glued in though but I can see it has a thread on it.
Do the imports have different types of thread?
If not then i'll just get that needle valve, unless anyone wants to sell me one of theirs?? If so drop me a PM.
This is the one I have
I tried using the one off the bubble counter (i'm not using this as it doesnt screw on properly and...
Guys,
I've lost pard of my CO2 regulator. The screw sleve type thing which you slide over the CO2 tubing that you then screw to the main body of the regulator to stop it leaking - is the bit i've lost. Do you know where i can get another??
Lee
Hi guys,
I'm interested to know how much of each solution you put in your drop checkers as you woudl get different results dependant on how much you add in.
For example, say you add 2ml of 4kh solution and 6 drops of ph reagent, this would give a darker and more fuller colour than say adding...
Hi Dan,
Its actually a batch of my own DK4 solution i made with tom barrs assistance. I'm pretty sure its accurate as the same solution has worked a treat before. with this in mind its given me a good benchmark to measure against as the colour is a lot darker now that what it was.
I do know my...
Thanks for the reply guys.
This is the problem and i dont know how or why i cant get the desired levels. Its funny how i've killed loads of fish by OD'ing the co2 when i used the standard jbl spiral diffuser. I have almost zero suface agitation.
Yes, the plants are suffering becoming weak and...
Hi Guys,
I'm so disapointed its untrue and i'mreally starting to think about giving this up.
OK so heres the kit list:
Eheim pro 2 external filter
180l tank
Rhynox 3000 diffuser
Originally I had a aquamas external inline reactor and have never been able to get anywhere near the 30ppm needed...
Thanks guys.
The hydor thing looks like it could be the short term answer but i guess I'm in the position of a lot of people who migrate from tropical tanks into the planted hobby in that you tend to get inferiour equipment.
Tanking into account the current equipment and configuration, how...
Thanks for that clive. I thought thats what you meant but dont want to get it wrong yet again.
I think i'm well off the 10x capacity. I use an eheim pro 2 which is rated at 950 lph and the tank is 180 so i'm at around 5 x flow. I'm not sure what the powerhead in the internal is rated at off...
Hi clive,
Thanks for your input.
I could have really done wihout the internal being in there but as the tank evolved into a planted tank I never really thought about getting rid of it. I guess if I can get it right then it will help the flow.
I'm not quite sure what you mean about the axis of...
HI,
Yes the lighting is the same across the entire tank and i can confirm its not distored by coloured backgrounds as before it was in front of the black internal juwel filter so i this was the case it woudl be lighter now, if anything.
When I say the bubbles, this are intermittent bubbles...
Hi Guys,
I've got an observation which has me curious.
I moved my drop checker to the other side of the tank the other day as its easier to read.
I have 2 filters. 1 eheim internal and the built in juwel filter running. The internal is fitted to the right side of the tank blowing directly...
Thanks guys.
My tanks a 180l and i think I oversized on the Aquamas reactor to the point the filter cant push through enough water. When i up the co2 i get large gas build up and the water through it slashes large bubbles out the filter whih doesnt give great diffusion.
Hi Guys,
I've had it with my aquamas inline reactor as it appears i dont have enough flow from my filter to power this big thing to its potential. As a consiquence I cant get my levels of CO2 anywhere near to the point where fish would be gasping at the surface which I've done so many times...
I also have one of these but i am having problems with the amount of flow thats put through. I get mass gass buildup which is aparently caused by not enough flow through the reactor.
according to the manufacturers instructions my filter should be fine although perhaps its just me being paranoid. I'll get a picture of the drop checker for all to see so I can find out if i'm getting close to 30 ppm.
Hi guys,
I came hope the other day after upping my CO2 slightly and noticed that the inline reactor (the one i posted on previous threads) was about half full of gas. With previous reactors i've easily been able to kill fish with CO2 injection but with this one I seem to struggle to get co2 to...
Thanks guys.
Regarding the Bobble Counter, how many turns do you nahe to give it? Its tight on mine and has a lot of thread showing underneath so i was wondering if its on rigght
Hi Guys,
as you can see form my other thread, I bought the aquatic magic regulator but now its arrived i can see its very different to my JBL one and not too sure if its right!
Here's an image:
You can see here that there is no 'o' ring and the only seal is a hard plastic ring that sits...
Guys,
I bought one of these reactors that you guys have on here and notice the attachment point to the bottle doesnt use a conventional 'o' ring and it pretty much just pushes up to the bottle. The small part that goes in to the bottle is very loose until tightened on. There is a plastic ring...
Hi Guys,
Does anyone have any thought on this regulator from ebay? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-CO2-Reg ... m153.l1262
I'm not that experienced with them and i currently use a JBL jobbie.
Lees
Hi Guys,
Picked up a pretty good deal on a nano with overhead luminair containing a T5PC for £50 at a local pet store.
I'm wondering what the best method for CO would be as well as being the best value for money. I'm certainly not into spending 50 quid for one but notice AE do a couple for...
Well, I cant see the gas being stuck at the bottom although it is difficult to see.
I'm half tempted to reverse the inlet and outlet so that the bubbles get churned up in the filter as well.
I had a reply from the company who sold it to me and he said i need to reduce the flow! Highly miffed at this response as this is advertised as suitable for 1000l tanks! You would need even more power filtration on a tank that size so would cause this problem even worse!!
Any thoughts guys?
Well I happened to get my 500gram JBL bottle on the go about 2 weeks ago and today it ran out.
I really do think there is something wrong with the diffusion happening in the reactor as I would expect the CO2 to last at least a month on a 500 gram.
I'm still getting loads of constant little...
Its attached to the outlet of your external filter.
Its a chamber where CO2 is injected against the flow of the water and is battered about against mesh or other drtractors causing the co2 to be better absorbed into the water.
Yeah, can't fault the build quality. I emailed them when my PH probe went belly up 2 months after buying it and they sent me a replacement along with a kilo of different fish foods for my troubles! Quality.
Any ideas on what I can do about this? Is ther an adaptor or something i can do?
The screw on sleve fits fine but the bit that actually inserts into the bottle is very slightly too large. Any ideas?
I didnt realise the JBL regulator would be any different to a standard regulator.
LEe
I can also vouch that the JBL reactor is massivly inefficient. Thats the first thing I got rid of on mine as I was getting through loads of CO2. For your sized tank I'd recommend spending a few quid on an inline reactor. Now I've cleaned mine i can see just how efficient they really are!
Not wanting to sound like a moaning Grandad but it would be benificial to create your own thread. It stops threads getting hijacked and dtreacting from the original subject.
I've split the thread to avoid any problems. Ed.
Back to my problem, I noticed yesterday that there was a buildup of...
Well, I turned the CO2 down a little and i'm still getting spurts coming out of the filter outlet. Really frustrating as i'm certain i'm wasting a lot of CO2 with it. Anyone got any further suggestions?
I dont think so as I've turned the CO2 down a little and it stops it although I'm not sure how much effect this will have on the amount of CO2 in the water.
Yeah they were a bit out of range for a lunch hour visit as they are almost in the town centre. 40 mins each way from syston in Leicester. Hoping for somewhere within a 30 minute drive really.
I would have said gas suprts would be less likely if the co2 reactor was on the filter input site as any gas escaping would have more time and turbulence to disolve in the water. Thats what some people do with their ceramic reactors deliberatly putting them beneath the filter inlet.
I beleive so, input at the top, output at the bottom so the gas has to fight against the current as it rises.
Incidentally, is your reactor perfectly verticle? Mine is about 2mm off but wondered if this could be the cause.
Firstly, here's my hardware:
The CO2 reactor:
The filter:
It appears that I could be wasting a lot of CO2 using my current configuration as I'm getting gas spurts coming out the filter outlet. The reactor is advertised as being suitable up to 1000 liters and I'm using it on a 180 liter so...
Where do you get your refills Ed? I'm not far from you (North Leicester during work) so could stretch to going to Notts for a refill if its done there and then.
I might just take you up on that! I've found a place that will refill them for £10 locally as well which is brilliant so that I dont have to have a weeks turnaround.
Also, found this on the PFK forums: http://www.flogas.co.uk/gas-finder/n...ies-cleveland/
Perhaps worth calling round some...
HI Guys,
I'm thinking of going down the fire extinguisher route as its such a pain having to get my bottle sent off every couple of months. Does anyone know if my reactor from a proflora set 2 would work on a fire extinguisher?
Also, does anyone have any suggestions of where to get the fire...
Thanks for the comprehensive explanation ceg.
I should ensure that my CO2 level is at its highest concentration by light on? Even if its close, is this too much fluctuation?
Incidentally, how long does it take you to get to the right level? I think i'm close at 2 hours but not quite to the...
Hi Guys,
My problems are well documented but I'm not sure what people exactly mean when they talk about stable CO2.
Are we talking about having the tank at a target CO2 level at lights on and then maintaining it all day?
Are we talking about lights and co2 coming on and then the CO2 gradually...
Hi Guys,
I'm curious as to what other people do with their CO2 overnight and the morning.
I currently switch CO2 off overnight using a timer and then it comes back on when the lights do. This gives a certain amount of time (not sure how long as i haven't timed it) to reach optimal CO2 levels...
