ADA Aquasky users - what power adaptor?

I tried it with a normal plug and it worked. Sadly I sold it before I could get any extended use out of it.

    understanding lighting frequencies

Hi Andrew, there are quite a few on here that understand the science they have just determined that in the main it is not something to get too technical over as 'most' lights do the job we need them for. I understand your request for a moonlight that does not stimulate growth but as Mark put it...

Just watched Jurijs live stream from Interzoo. This light still looks amazing! €2500 for the 80cm version.

Mounting TMC Tile over 15L Pico?

If the light at 3 inches above the surface is lower than it currently is then the PAR will be increased. Do you have the option to suspend from the ceiling?

    Lighting for TMC signature 60cm

Don't get hung up on RGB. This is not a concern with any 'white' light. A timer is almost an essential. The problem is that with powerful lighting that cannot be dimmed you have to ensure all other aspects - ferts, CO2, flow etc are spot on or the tank will go downhill quickly. If you...

    Lighting for TMC signature 60cm

They are good also. More powerful than the Aquabars. Although the dimmer/controller is more expensive for these lights. You will also need MMS rails. Here is a shot of one of the Aquabars. You could use a similar set-up for the grobeams.

    Lighting for TMC signature 60cm

I like the TMC Aquabars. They can be dimmed and you can buy mounts for the rim of the tank.

How Many Watts For My Tank Please?

How is the tank filtered? Elongated plants are usually looking for CO2 and not light so this may be a sign that the CO2 level at the substrate is poor. Can you put the drop checker lower and see how this measures?

    LUPYLED theONE - thoughts?

Personally I love the idea of being able to tailor the intensity in different areas as I think this could be really useful. It looks easy to programme too.

Reducing Light Intensity With Grey Acrylic

I got a sheet of quite dark tinted acrylic. Maybe too dark. I have not tried this with the Aquasky so it may be ok but here is a before and after shot. (Don't judge me on the tank as this is just set-up to experiment with [emoji4])

ADA Aquasky users - what power adaptor?

I'm sure the literature is right and a simple adaptor is needed but don't wanna ditch the transformer if TGM would then not honour a warranty if the light failed for any reason. I look forward to the response.

I thought this too but went with what TGM advised.

ADA Aquasky users - what power adaptor?

Could of saved myself £15 if I had known this. (I got the Maplin one). The Green Machine advise to use a transformer and they also add a note in the box to advise of this as well. http://www.thegreenmachineonline.com/shop/ada-aquasky-451/

Reducing Light Intensity With Grey Acrylic

Thanks Ian, that's the thread I read before. I think I'm gonna give a sheet of tinted acrylic a go at £5 and once I've paid off the ADA gear in a few years time (lol) I'll probably get that dimmer.

Reducing Light Intensity With Grey Acrylic

Cheers Tim. I did not buy the cover as I already have an acrylic cover I had cut for another tank that should fit. (It's actually a P@H tank and the dimensions are almost identical to the Mini M). I'll look at the window frosting. This is why I was considering the tinted acrylic as I would...

Reducing Light Intensity With Grey Acrylic

Well first of all I have seen the PAR readings on Marcels website! Yeah it would I agree. [emoji4] I have read the posts but there is still a tiny amount of doubt in my mind about using one. Just a tiny doubt. Ian, you can maybe help on another query as well. I am using a step down transformer with the light. I assume this will be ok with a timer? I use the...

Reducing Light Intensity With Grey Acrylic

Hi All, Having recently bought an ADA Aquasky I am concerned about how powerful it is and want to give myself a safety net. In this post Clive mentions using grey acrylic to reduce the intensity whilst maintaining colour - http://www.ukaps.org/forum/index.php?posts/205527/ Maybe an easy...

ADA Aquasky - Am I Asking For Trouble?

It is tempting. I bought it as I love the look and it's nice to know its powerful. I can always find ways to dim it if needed. (Which I most likely would to start of with). [emoji4]

  34. Andy D

    Intensity vs duration?

It's better to keep the intensity lower and have a longer duration. You have already pretty much answered your question with this statement. If you increase the intensity you may get faster growth but only if the CO2 (and ferts) are able to keep up with the new demand. If CO2 (and ferts) are...

    Radion fresh water

Water changes are really important. I recently set up another tank and it still surprises me how much detritus builds up in a tank with no fish. Given the plant mass to water volume ratio a daily change is probably not needed but I would at least have started with 2-3 changes per week for the...

ADA Aquasky - Am I Asking For Trouble?

Ok Chaps, Aquasky ordered. (Just gotta hope they honour the discount on a second order [emoji4]). Still gotta get loads of other bits which will take time but I am happy with the start. (Mini M, Aquasky, Amazonia normal and powder).

ADA Aquasky - Am I Asking For Trouble?

Hi All! Apart from a brief stint using CO2 all of my tanks to date have been low energy affairs. I have plans to change that and have taken advantage of the current TGM offer and bought an ADA Mini M. I want a decent light and I really love the look of the Aquasky. Given my inexperience, the...

Injection rate seems quite low for the size of tank you have. Drop checker could still be blue as there is not enough CO2 being added.

    Arcadia Classica Stretch vs 15 W T8

    Which Spectrum T8 Tubes?

I agree with Mick. I find that 6500K (Daylight) tend to give the better colour rendition. Anything lower than this and things start to look too yellow and any higher than this (like 10K) things do look washed out. The 10k bulb you have is normally seen in a marine set-up.

Anyone looking for a Nano LED?

I don't think you can have just white but I think you can have just blue. When you set it that's it. When it goes off the settings will be the same when it comes on. Therefore you can have all the lights on. I'll check later what the full options are.
  54. Andy D

Anyone looking for a Nano LED?

Yeah I got it yesterday. [emoji4] Basically my criteria for the light was: 1. It had to be LED. Mainly for point 2. 2. It had to be dimmable. 3. It had to fit 10mm glass. 4. Colour temperature at least (or as close to) 6500k. 5. It had to work with a timer. 6. Ideally under £50. 7. Good...

LED options for low tech 120cm tank

    Fluval Spec Light transformer

On the transformer you do have does it state the output voltage? The Chi/Edge ones are 12v. Someone on PFK used an Arcadia Stretch on theirs and was getting good results.

    T5's Old Hat

The advantage LEDs have for me is the ability to be dimmed. If you have a tank with the ability to raise and lower the lights then great! T5s will still do a stirling job. If you don't have this ability, like in a Juwel tank, it is nice to have LEDs to give this flexibility.
  62. Andy D

    6500 LED's

They will be fine for the plants. Anything additional will be for the aesthetics.

Reducing light intensity in Juwel tank

Worth a try but unfortunately this is how Juwel tanks are wired now. My Rios are the same. If one light is out then neither work. Juwel used to have issues with units failing so perhaps this is how they have gotten around the issue?

Rob P has them and has to run them at 20%. I also read another thread with a similar outcome that resulted in them running at 20%. Seems they are quite powerful by all accounts!
