    Jungle Style Fish Bowl Aquascape!

One of the best bowls i've seen, not something that's too common these days but back in the day everyone that wasn't fully into the hobby had a bowl or a biorb, it's very nice! the way you've planted and built textures is top notch aswell.

    The Used-to-be-a-Biotope-Tank

does the main unit not hold the water? i wouldn't expose the media completely to air, just open the top so to speak, so you have a better surface area of water to exchange oxygen, because you have no throughput through the filter if you keep it all sealed the oxygen will deplete quite quickly...
  3. Angus

    The Used-to-be-a-Biotope-Tank

I would recommend taking the pump unit off the top and exposing the filters to the air if possible, you will get better dissolved oxygen levels, the colonies should go a few days like that.

    The Used-to-be-a-Biotope-Tank

Ahhh if only you had me there with my ms441 i would carve a path for your car bud.... the problem with getting cutters in to clear the stuff is they have to clear all the windblown on the way to the specific windblown tree that is blocking your access, it takes bloody ages for rural areas.

    The Used-to-be-a-Biotope-Tank

Oh my god! i was just enjoying the thread then came down to read this! I'm hoping for you! It didn't seem that bad down here but I know Scotland is another world when it comes to weather. Also a Honda generator not starting? first time I've heard of that.... is the world conspiring against you...

    Fidelia squid: Dutch Aquascape 55ltr

Did you plant front to back? or back to front? or neither? what was the planting order and how did you decide what to plant first? i'm assuming planting stems first is a good bet. :) nice job!

    AS900- restart and rethink.

Tennellum runners will grow everywhere including over hardscape, but they do like to find somewhere to root rather than floating mid air, Eleocharis parvula/acicularis i have only had in a couple of tanks and its not as 'wild' as Tennellum and has less speedy runners, a bit more of a "hairy"...

You got me reading about red algaes now after browsing through the thread. I just discovered the freshwater red and corraline algaes we encounter actually make use of bicarbonates as their carbon source and not co2 which makes sense as ive had red spots, and my tanks are always pretty high in...

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

Couldn't have put it better myself, if you don't get upset when a pet dies i don't think you deserved its love and companionship in the first place. Just because you can't cuddle aquatic pets doesn't mean you don't get attached, the only thing i never got attached to was insects really but i've...

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

Yeah absolutely unreal looking male, sometimes interbreeding leads to better colours and forms but worse longevity and worse long term health, i know you did everything you could for that fish buddy. :)

    The Nymph's Spring (EA900)

One thing I will say is I always scold all my universal gear, like nets, jugs etc, whenever I have an outbreak of anything. (would prefer a steam cleaner but i don't own one) So by the sounds you want to treat with the fish whilst it is inside the planted tank using Flukesolve. You can use...

    The Root Among The Rocks

Anything near paths and paving sprayed by the mobile tractor sprayer type with the handheld wand i wouldn't put near my tanks myself, i know about COSHH i have to for my job, regards to spraying trees and shrubs that doesn't happen you are right, but it's often about where you are picking stuff...

    The Root Among The Rocks

Leaves are great at growing bio-films, also cholla wood, seed pods, alder cones, etc. When collecting leaves i would highly recommend doing it in the woods, as homeowners and the local council spray pesticides absolutely everywhere.

Spot dosing liquid carbon mixed 1 part LC to 5 parts water with a syringe underwater works pretty fast on BBA, just remember don't exceed recommended dosing, just use your usual daily dose mixed with tank water.

    PBM's Dennerle Scapers 55

Best way to combat mould in a DSM is to air the tank regularly, or alternatively if you are around the tank a lot then leave the cover off and spray regularly, you could just cover it the times when you won't be there like work etc, i would hold off flooding as it defeats the object of doing a DSM.

  48. Angus

    180l low tech

i think you need another piece of wood to make it look more dominant. :) the tank looks lovely though , 100% floaters just means less light to the plants beneath, also they can take up nutrients pretty fast, so you should keep them thinned out somewhat.

Lovely tank dude kudos to yourself , just a tip for taking pictures, if you occlude the light from your luminaire that is going towards the camera with a piece of cardboard or a cloth or something, you will get much clearer photos as the tank will only be backlit and lit inside.
