    Ok managed to get one joint done, tinned the wire and held it on the plate with the iron. Have tries to do another one, but doesn't seem to matter how long ikeep the iron there for, it won't remelt the solder. Any one any idea why? Cheers Gordon.

    balasts or flicker question

    At a guess, i would say that the light that flicker uses a startet to light the lamp. And the lamp flickering for a few seconds at start up is normal Your other lamp more than likely has an elctronic ballast which lights the lamp with no flicker. Hope that helps...
