The easiest way to do a 40% water change?

I use a Maxi-Jet power head to pump my water out. I don't think it's the cheapest option tho...

    DIY Mini Canister

Have you thought about using some acrylic tubes bent into which ever shape you like (spray bar or inlet) so that you can make the hosing as inconspicuous as possible?

    Cracked Eheim 2324 Canister

Good luck with your repairs! Might be worth looking into a water alarm? You could stand the repaired filter in a washing up bowl. That way you'll get a little puddle buffer and warning!

    Cracked Eheim 2324 Canister

Maybe you could look out for the same filter listed as Spares or Repairs. All you'd need it obviously one with an intact canister. Isn't the 2324 a thermo model?

    DIY LED hood

What would be the best material for a mounting board? Also would the addition of heat sinks and fans be need in this sort of project? And specifically using these outdoor decking lighting units?

    DIY Reactor

You make a good point Colin. The shape of Joe's tank is not ideal for easy flow solutions... Good luck Joe!

    DIY Reactor

That is not the position that Clive suggests it the best to achieve a good circle of flow. As I said b4 he suggests that the flow from the spray bar points straight forward to create a circle off the front pain. Have a read through this thread.

Thanks for that Matt. When I get round to getting all the bits together I hope to post some images of it's construction too.

    Mini/Pico DIY Canister Filter?

So I've looked into this a little further and I've come up with a list of what would be needed to build this. Parts list Submersible 2.5W 230L/H Aquarium Air Water Pump AT-301 = £6.99 8mm Clear AQUARIUM AIRLINE Hose PIPE POND - 1 METRES = £1.75 Lock and & Lock Plastic Food Container 700ml...

    DIY Reactor

It's all down to personal taste. Being able to see what's going on inside is helpful, but not essential. I wouldn't know where to start with anything like this so you're doing well! Think of the money you'll save (that you'll eventually spend on plants or wood or rocks  )

    DIY Reactor

Question 1: I think that would work but I guess its a bit of a "try it and see". I have a AM1000 and that has a threaded/tapped valve at the top to allow excess air to be bled off as required. Question 2/3: With the AM reactor I have there is an Co2 inlet extension of approx 5cm so that the...

    Mini/Pico DIY Canister Filter?

Was browsing today and came across this Bending Clear Perspex Tubing thread and thought it would be perfect for making a custome inlet strainer and spay bar for a pico tank. That coupled with the DIY mini canister would make for a complete filtration system!

    Bending Clear Perspex Tubing

A very, very interesting thread! Would a paint stripper "gun" be good enough to heat the tubing up with? I would also be a little concerned with the bending, I would probably go with the table salt method as I don't think I'd have anything suitable to place in the tube... Has anyone tried a...

    Mini/Pico DIY Canister Filter?

Umm... yus a good point. I guess I'd have to use hose with the same/near internal diameter as the out let of the pump. In the instance of the one I've suggested it has an ID of 1/2" which would be 13mm? Either that or use some form of step down to a usable diameter.

    Mini/Pico DIY Canister Filter?

I've not measured the volume of my glass cube. Going on those used in the pico comp, specifically the ones used by James Marshall here, I would say 2.7litres (it looks identical). Is there really any benefit to filtering a "tank" of that size? Also would regular air-hose be rigid enough to deal...

    Mini/Pico DIY Canister Filter?

Not really sure what rating you'd want for a pico... You wouldn't want that much flow as they are usually teenee-weeney. Even the lowest powered pumps seem majorly overpowered for this size of "tank". Would you think that 85gph was too low?

    Mini/Pico DIY Canister Filter?

Hi all, I've recently setup a pico scape and wondered if it would benefit from some form of filtration. So of I went and I stumbled across a thread on another forum on how to created a nano canister filter using a locking lidded Tupperware container and a powerhead/pump and I was wondering if...

    Which External filter?

Have a look around on ebay, you'll usually find external filters from ppl that are stripping down tanks. You might even find the JBL filter you were originally looking at? A word to the wise tho sellers can get giddy on ebay and ask for ridiculous amounts for items, but also buyers can get...

    Fluval hose change

Hi Haze, How did you get the replacement hose over the rim of the tank?? I have gotten some tubing that fits my Fluval 405 but cos it's not ribbed it kinks and it's too wide for the supplied Fluval hose securing brackets... My intentions was to replace the hose when I installed me new...
