I think there are, but I must admit I'm not sure what they are. Melting leaves and legginess is related to Co2 difficiencies? Yellowing of the leaves is another sign, but cant remember is it's potasium or nitrogeon... Clive will be able to tell you tho.

The EI guide as I understand it is just that a guide. As you've found with u're Co2 you have to be willing to alter it as is needed. As Clive himself advises light drives plant growth, so the more light you have the faster the plants will grow and the more Co2 and ferts they will need to meet...

Bat'leth to the neck!!! Don't forget that if you increase your light levels (which I read earlier on that you intend to do) you will also need to increase you Co2 level and also your concentration of your added ferts.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience in altering the working pressure on AquaMedic regulators (namely the ones that TGM sells)? I have one of these and understand that their working pressure is 1.5bar and I'm looking to use it on a UP Atomiser, which I believe need a pressure...

Re: How can i plit co2 for 2 tanks?? You'll need a splitter with two needle valves on so that you can control the two independent flows of gas. You may also need to alter the pressure out of the reg so that you have enough pressure at the difusser.

Most ppl have their Co2 set to come on 1-2hours b4 their lights switch on. This way you have built up the right amount of dissolved Co2 ready for you plants to use.

Hi Viktor, What sort of mesh do you use in your AM1000s? I definitely haven't got space for another AM1000 in my cabinet (unless I build myself a new one! ;)).

I got mine from TGM as part of their kit. I have run my cylinder empty on a couple of occasions, as I don't have a spare yet and didn't realise it was bad form! Had no dumps, and no deaths. Unfortunately I can't tell you make/model as I'm at work...

With a tank of your size I would advice an inline diffuser. This was you'd get better diffusion and if combined with proper flow you'll get Co2 water all around your tank.

Yeah, you need to use tubing specifically designed for use with Co2. I got mine from TGM, but they are unlikely to be the most cost effective options...

See what you've done Idris! I think for the size of your tank that DIY Co2 (ie yeast based systems) won't product enough Co2 for your needs. Not unless you are running multi-stage multi-container systems, which would probably end up taking up a lot of space and time. If you're wanting to grow...

Fire extinguishers are more than likely the cheapest way to get into the pressurised Co2 game. That and ebaying for regs and solenoids.

Do you not need a needle valve for each leg that is connected to the Atomisers? This way you can ensure that you have the right flow of gas going to each of the diffusers?

Could it be due to the water pressure on the surface of the diffuser? How deep is your tank? The way I understand it the deeper the tank the harder it is to force the water down the pipe and out of the diffuser. Would a diffuser with a larger surface area help in that situation?

They look like the DIY ones using perspex tubes that was link'd in this thread. Obviously the Cal-Aqua look a lot better, but they will also cost a lot more too.

The Green Machine will do you a Co2 setup to meet your needs. They're not the cheapest out there but the service is second to none!

I think this would show that you drop checker isn't working properly. I nearly killed all my fish once when I accidentally left my Co2 on over night. Once you receive your new drop checker and 4dkh water you'll see the difference. Also you are clearly getting Co2 in your water column or else...

I read on here somewhere of someone fitting a ceramic defuser inside their AM1000. I quite like the sound of that as you would obviously get smaller bubbles off the defuser that will dissolve quicker into the water.

I've had success soaking them in a Milton solution. Seems to work with killing off algae on things like drop checkers, rocks and power heads too. :thumbup:

Is there such a thing as too much Co2 in a plant only tank? Obviously there will be an upper limit to the amount of Co2 the plants can use, and then other factors such as ferts and light become the limiting elements. But will that excess Co2 cause any problems?

Well I have aquired a bottle of fizzy water and I have a half empty bottle of Nutrafin plant fertiliser too which I'll use for food.

Does anyone know the answer to this? As I fancy giving it a try. Also would cling-film be a good enough barrier to prevent to must gas off?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had tried and/or has reason not to use carbonised water in Pico style micro tanks? I was thinking of ways to introduce Co2 to a pico tank I've setup and though about pouring in an amount of sparkling water into the tank and wondered if anyone else has tried...

It works very well for me. It has reduced the flow rate some mind you... I believe that the external heater is straight throw , but haven't really looked at it recently. I guess I'd have to put a shutoff valve about it to aid cleaning.

I'd be interested to hear your results of having the heater on the inlet of the Fluval 405. As I currently have an AM1000 on the outlet of my 405 and have a Hydor External heater sat ready to go inline. Never thought of having it on the inlet. Will that cause any problems?

Just been to a place in North Manchester and got my 3kg cylinder refilled for £3! Bargin! Place is called Brentex Gas Ltd, 1-5 Morton Road, Middleton, M24 6AN. They said they could do me another 3kg cylinder for £20, but they only take cash and didnt have it on me... Return trip I think!!!

I'm thinking about getting a system from TGM atm, theirs comes with all glass ware instead of the plastic stuff you'd get with other complete systems, that you will eventually swap out anyway. Also how long with one of those JBL bottles last in your 240l tank?

Are there any negatives to using a FE cylinder over the cylinders you get from Aquatic shops (the likes of TGM)? I ask as my gf is extremely nervous about using FE cylinders but seems to be happier about using a complete system bought through TGM. I wouldn't mind as they are not much more...

I thought it was typical for pressurised C02 to drop the pH by 1? I've been told that this drop in pH caused by C02 isn't harmfull to the fish. So presumable you need to change the controllers pH to around 5 - 5.5. This will allow it to stay on to add the C02.

Hi all, I'm toying with the idea of getting a C02 system based off a Fire Extinguisher, but I am a little concerned that little hands (4yo boy) may find there way to it and touch/knock it over. How have ppl secured their FE to make sure they don't fall over and cause damage?

I'd have to agree with the others. FE's get regular inspections but the don't get replaced that often. Surely you can ask at the company that you are getting them refilled at? As they are a fire safety company they will know the regulations regards to FEs.

Ok tested the water again, that's gotta be at least 72hrs and the pH is still reading 6. I also tested the GH/KH, GH comes back as 40 mg/l and KH comes back as 30 mg/l. Opinions?

Ok, I left a glass out for near 24hrs (21 and a half maybe) and the pH still came back as 6... I didn't have the time to check the GH/KH, I'll try to get it tonight/tomorrow so that I can post them up.

Hi all, I'm toying with the idea of adding pressurised CO2 to my new 240L tank that I'm gonna start planting soon, but the pH of the water from the tap is only 6... I'm a bit concerned that if I add CO2 it's gonna drag it down, this could harm the fish I eventually put in or stop the bacteria...
